Lumbering is the job that feeds [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) and [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine) into your base, and only 63 of the game's 288 Pals can do it at all. This guide ranks every one that matters, gives the exact spawn counts and alpha levels for each, covers the partner skills that speed up your own axe, and shows how to staff a [Logging Site](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Logging%20Site) so the wood keeps coming while you're offline.

## Lumbering at a Glance

Lumbering is a mid-sized bench: 63 Pals have it, which puts it behind Transporting (140), Handiwork (109) and Gathering (109) but ahead of every other job. The catch is how top-heavy the ladder is — exactly one Pal reaches rank 8, two reach rank 7, and five reach rank 6, so 55 of the 63 are rank 5 or worse. Wood is also the most-used building material in the game, so this is not a job you can leave understaffed: 142 of the 480 base structures ask for [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) and another 49 ask for [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine).

## Best Lumbering Pals in Palworld

Eight Pals sit at Lumbering 6 or better, and the honest answer for most players is the second row rather than the first. [Celesdir Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir-noct) owns the ceiling but exists as a single level 79 alpha, while its base form [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) is one rank down and turns up at 1,613 spawn points — feed that one an [Applied Lumbering Handbook I](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorkSuitability_AddTicket_Deforest) and you match the ceiling with a Pal you caught in an afternoon. Watch the food column too: the rank 6+ tier is full of large Pals that eat 8 or 9 per meal, which is a real drain on a base that also runs a Ranch and a Feed Box.

| Pal | Lumbering | Other jobs it does | Food | How to get it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Celesdir Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir-noct) | **8** | Gathering 4 | 8 | Level 79 alpha only — no field spawns. Breeds from [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) × [Kitsun Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/kitsun-noct) |
| [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) | 7 | Gathering 4 | 8 | 1,613 spawn points plus a level 65 alpha — [see the Celesdir spawn map](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=WhiteDeer) |
| [Hartalis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/hartalis) | 7 | Gathering 7 | 9 | No ordinary field spawns; only breeds from a pair of Hartalis |
| [Bastigor](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bastigor) | 6 | Cooling 8 · Mining 5 | 9 | 69 spawn points — [see the Bastigor spawn map](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=SnowTigerBeastman) |
| [Cryolinx Terra](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cryolinx-terra) | 6 | Mining 5 · Transporting 4 · Handiwork 2 | 7 | 156 spawn points, a level 62 alpha, and a dungeon boss in Feybreak Cavern |
| [Paladius](https://palworld-db.com/pal/paladius) | 6 | Mining 6 | 9 | Level 60 legendary alpha; only breeds from a Paladius pair |
| [Necromus](https://palworld-db.com/pal/necromus) | 6 | Mining 6 | 9 | No regular spawns; only breeds from a Necromus pair |
| [Silvegis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/silvegis) | 6 | None | 8 | Level 62 alpha only — no field spawns |

### Celesdir Noct — the Only Lumbering 8 Pal

[Celesdir Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir-noct) is the entire top of the ladder by itself, and it is genuinely awkward to obtain: zero field spawn points, one level 79 alpha encounter, and a breeding line that needs [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) paired with [Kitsun Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/kitsun-noct). Once it's yours it's a clean specialist — Lumbering 8 with only Gathering 4 attached, so it won't wander off to a different station mid-cycle. Its partner skill has nothing to do with wood at all (Blessing of Chaos adds 40% to 80% Ranged Attack depending on partner skill level), so this is a base Pal you assign and forget rather than one you carry. Three of them on a [Logging Site II](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Logging%20Site%20II) is the fastest [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine) setup in the game.

### Celesdir — Rank 7 at 1,613 Spawn Points

This is the pick for almost everyone. [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) is one of the most common Pals on the map at 1,613 spawn points, it spawns day or night, and it arrives at Lumbering 7 — one rank below the game's best, and better than anything else you can farm casually. There's also a level 65 alpha if you want a high-level body to condense. Because a handbook adds +1 permanently, a caught Celesdir plus one [Applied Lumbering Handbook I](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorkSuitability_AddTicket_Deforest) is functionally the rank 8 worker without ever fighting the level 79 alpha; [the handbook guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/all-handbooks-and-best-pals) covers where those books come from.

### Bastigor — Lumbering 6 and Cooling 8 on One Body

[Bastigor](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bastigor) is the best two-job pick in the tier. Lumbering 6 is strong on its own, but Cooling 8 is the actual ceiling of the Cooling ladder, so one worker slot covers your logging site and every [refrigerator and cooler](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Cooler%20Box) in the base. Mining 5 rides along on top. It's catchable at 69 spawn points with no alpha needed, which makes it far less of a project than the legendaries below it. The one cost is appetite: 9 food per meal is the joint-highest in this tier, so pair it with a working Ranch before you commit the slot.

### Cryolinx Terra — Four Jobs and the Easiest Rank 6 to Farm

[Cryolinx Terra](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cryolinx-terra) spreads 17 work points across four jobs — Lumbering 6, Mining 5, Transporting 4, Handiwork 2 — which is the widest coverage anywhere in the rank 6 group. It's also the most available: 156 spawn points concentrated in the Deserted Ash Plateau (87 of them) and Oilfield Overlook (60), plus a level 62 alpha and a boss appearance in Feybreak Cavern. At 7 food it eats less than every other rank 6 Lumbering Pal. If you're staffing one base rather than five, this is the body that saves you the most slots. Breeding works too — [Cryolinx](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cryolinx) × [Dazemu](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dazemu) produces it.

### Silvegis, Paladius, and Necromus — the Locked Rank 6 Trio

All three are alpha-or-nothing. [Silvegis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/silvegis) is a level 62 alpha with Lumbering 6 and literally no second job, which makes it a pure logging body — fine if you have one, not worth hunting for. [Paladius](https://palworld-db.com/pal/paladius) (level 60 alpha) and [Necromus](https://palworld-db.com/pal/necromus) each pair Lumbering 6 with Mining 6, and both are rarity 20 legendaries that only breed true from a pair of themselves. They're excellent workers, but every one of them is a combat trophy first; putting a legendary on a logging site while [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) sits in your box at rank 7 is backwards. [The alpha hunting guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/alpha-hunting-by-level) has the route if you want them anyway.

## Best Early and Mid-Game Lumbering Pals

Before level 60 you're picking from ranks 4 and 5, and here availability beats raw rank. [Bushi Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bushi-noct) is the standout — Lumbering 5 at 1,990 spawn points and only 5 food, so you can staff an entire logging operation with a species you trip over. [Dinossom Lux](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dinossom-lux) and [Fenglope Lux](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fenglope-lux) are the other two you should not overlook: both are Lumbering 4 with real electricity ranks attached, so one catch covers wood and keeps your [Power Generator](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Power%20Generator) running. If you want double duty instead, [Dualith](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dualith) carries Mining 6 and Transporting 6 on the same body as its Lumbering 5, which is three jobs in one slot — it just eats 8 food and takes an XL footprint to do it.

| Pal | Lumbering | Other jobs it does | Food | Spawn points |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Bushi Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bushi-noct) | 5 | Kindling 2 · Handiwork 2 · Transporting 2 | 5 | **1,990** — [Bushi Noct spawn map](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=Ronin_Dark) |
| [Dualith](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dualith) | 5 | Mining 6 · Transporting 6 · Planting 3 | 8 | 75, plus level 55 and 75 alphas |
| [Wumpo Botan](https://palworld-db.com/pal/wumpo-botan) | 5 | Transporting 6 · Planting 3 · Handiwork 3 | 7 | 83, plus a level 38 alpha |
| [Wumpo](https://palworld-db.com/pal/wumpo) | 5 | Transporting 6 · Cooling 5 · Handiwork 3 | 7 | 53 — mostly Land of Absolute Zero |
| [Mammorest Cryst](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest-cryst) | 5 | Cooling 5 · Mining 4 | 6 | 84 across the snowfields |
| [Dinossom Lux](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dinossom-lux) | 4 | Generating Electricity 3 | 4 | **573**, plus a level 47 alpha |
| [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) | 4 | Planting 4 · Mining 4 | 6 | 484, plus a level 38 alpha |
| [Fenglope Lux](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fenglope-lux) | 4 | Generating Electricity 5 | 5 | 258, plus a level 60 alpha |
| [Skutlass](https://palworld-db.com/pal/skutlass) | 4 | Watering 4 · Gathering 1 | 5 | 129 |
| [Prixter](https://palworld-db.com/pal/prixter) | 4 | Gathering 2 · Medicine Production 2 | 5 | 70 — size S, so it fits anywhere |
| [Mossanda](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mossanda) | 4 | Transporting 4 · Planting 3 · Handiwork 2 | 4 | 52 — 37 of them in Mossanda Forest |
| [Warsect](https://palworld-db.com/pal/warsect) | 4 | Transporting 5 · Planting 3 · Handiwork 3 | 6 | 10 — rare, but a strong hauler |

## Best Pals for Chopping Trees Yourself

Base workers and axe partners are two different lists, and the second one is much shorter — only four Pals carry a partner skill that touches your own logging at all. [Eikthyrdeer](https://palworld-db.com/pal/eikthyrdeer) and both Mammorest forms share the biggest one, a Logging bonus that runs from +220% at partner skill level 1 up to +500% at level 5, which is the difference between three swings on a tree and one. All three are rideable, so you chop, mount, and carry the load without swapping Pals. [Gumoss](https://palworld-db.com/pal/gumoss) is the odd entry: it has no Lumbering suitability whatsoever and can't work a logging site, but its partner skill still gives +30% to +50% Logging alongside 40% to 60% item weight reduction, which is genuinely useful on a long harvesting trip.

| Pal | Partner skill | Logging bonus (Lv. 1 → Lv. 5) | Its own Lumbering | Saddle |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Eikthyrdeer](https://palworld-db.com/pal/eikthyrdeer) | Guardian of the Forest | **+220% → +500%** | 2 | Tech Lv. 12 |
| [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) | Gaia Crusher | **+220% → +500%** (plus +500% → +2,000% Mining) | 4 | Tech Lv. 28 |
| [Mammorest Cryst](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest-cryst) | Ice Crusher | **+220% → +500%** (plus +500% → +2,000% Mining) | 5 | Tech Lv. 41 |
| [Gumoss](https://palworld-db.com/pal/gumoss) | Logging Assistance | +30% → +50% (plus 40% → 60% weight reduction) | None | Not rideable |

[Eikthyrdeer](https://palworld-db.com/pal/eikthyrdeer) is the one to grab first. It appears at 227 spawn points, its saddle unlocks at tech level 12, and it eats only 2 food — the lowest of any Pal on this page — so it costs you almost nothing to keep around. The Mammorest pair hit the same logging ceiling and add a monstrous Mining multiplier on top, but both are XL and their saddles land much later, so they're the upgrade rather than the starting point.

### Eikthyrdeer Terra Gives Your Whole Base +1 Lumbering

This is the single most overlooked trick in the job. [Eikthyrdeer Terra](https://palworld-db.com/pal/eikthyrdeer-terra) trades the huge axe multiplier for a different effect entirely — while it is stationed at a base, every other base Pal's Lumbering suitability level goes up by 1. Put it down alongside three [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) and each of them works as a rank 8, which is the same result as three handbooks for the price of one capture. The catch is scarcity: Eikthyrdeer Terra has just 12 spawn points, so it's a hunt. It also eats 2 food like its base form, so once it's placed it costs you almost nothing to keep the buff running.

## How to Set Up a Wood Base

The whole pipeline is three buildings, and the third one is the one people miss. A [Logging Site](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Logging%20Site) at tech level 7 produces [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) and takes any Pal with Lumbering Lv. 1 or better, so it goes up almost immediately. The [Stump and Axe](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Stump%20and%20Axe) at level 28 is a flat logging-speed boost for the whole base and costs nothing to run — the game states plainly that placing a second one does nothing, so build exactly one. [Logging Site II](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Logging%20Site%20II) at level 43 is the [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine) version, and it's an Ancient node paid for in Ancient Technology Points rather than regular ones.

| Structure | Tech level | Materials | What it does |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | Lv. 7 · 2 points | 50 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 20 [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone), 10 [Paldium Fragment](https://palworld-db.com/item/Pal_crystal_S) | Produces [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) — needs Lumbering Lv. 1+ |
| | Lv. 28 · 2 points | 50 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 10 [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot), 30 [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone) | Raises logging speed across the base — one is the maximum that counts |
| | Lv. 43 · 3 **Ancient** points | 100 [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine), 50 [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone), 20 [Paldium Fragment](https://palworld-db.com/item/Pal_crystal_S), 5 [Ancient Civilization Parts](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalCrystal_Ex) | Produces [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine) — full breakdown in [the Logging Site II guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-logging-site-ii) |
| | Lv. 8 · 2 points | 50 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 20 [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone), 10 [Paldium Fragment](https://palworld-db.com/item/Pal_crystal_S) | Converts Wood and Stone into other materials — needs **Watering**, not Lumbering |

One trap worth naming: the [Crusher](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Crusher) sits in the same production tab and consumes wood, but it runs on Watering suitability, so a base full of Lumbering Pals will leave it idle. Check [the best Watering Pals list](https://palworld-db.com/best-pals/watering) if yours is stalled. For the crafted tiers, [Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/Processed_Wood) unlocks at level 15 and [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood) at level 43, both at a workbench rather than the logging site.

## Passives and Implants That Speed Up Lumbering

Two separate stacks apply here and people mix them up. **Logging Yield Up** passives raise how much wood drops per tree, topping out at +200% on Lv. 5 — that's the one you want on the Pal you actually ride out to chop with. Work-speed passives like **Remarkable Craftsmanship** and **Artisan** raise how fast a Pal completes any station cycle, so they're what you breed onto your base logging crew. Getting a rank 4 yield passive and a rank 4 work-speed passive onto the same Pal is the real endgame; [the min-max guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-min-max-pals) covers the breeding side of that.

| Passive | Rank | What it does | Best used on |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Logging Yield Up Lv. 5 | 4 | +200% wood dropped from trees | Your axe partner |
| Logging Yield Up Lv. 4 | 3 | +160% wood dropped | Your axe partner |
| Logging/Mining Yield Up | 3 | +160% to Wood, Stone and Ore drops | A mount you take on gathering runs |
| Logging Yield Up Lv. 3 | 3 | +120% wood dropped | Early-game filler |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | 4 | +75% work speed | Base logging crew |
| Artisan | 3 | +50% work speed | Base logging crew |
| Work Slave | 1 | +30% work speed | Budget base crew |
| [Implant: Logging Foreman](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalPassiveSkillChange_TrainerLogging_up1) | 3 | +25% to **your own** logging efficiency | Any party Pal — installed at the [Pal Surgery Table](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-pal-surgery-table) |
| [Implant: Motivational Leader](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalPassiveSkillChange_TrainerWorkSpeed_UP_1) | 3 | +25% to **your own** work speed | Any party Pal |

> **Tip.** The cheapest rank 8 logging crew in the game isn't [Celesdir Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir-noct) at all — it's three [Celesdir](https://palworld-db.com/pal/celesdir) at rank 7 with one [Eikthyrdeer Terra](https://palworld-db.com/pal/eikthyrdeer-terra) parked in the same base for its +1 Lumbering aura. Celesdir sits at 1,613 spawn points, so the only hard part is finding the 12 spots where Eikthyrdeer Terra appears.
