# Best Pals for Planting: Ranks, Spawns, and Plantations

Planting ranked for all 45 Pals that have it — Dandilord's lone rank 8, the six Pals that clear the Ancient Farm's rank 6 gate, exact spawn counts and food costs, every plantation's tech level and build price, and the Silo, handbook and passives that speed the whole farm up.

Planting is the job that drops seeds into a plot, and 45 of the game's 288 Pals can do it. This guide ranks every one of them, lists the spawn counts and food costs that decide who actually earns a base slot, shows which six Pals clear the Ancient Farm's rank 6 gate, and covers the Silo, the handbook and the passive stack that make a farm finish faster.

## Planting at a Glance

Planting is a narrow job with one very sharp edge. Seven of the eight structures that use it only ask for rank 1, so a Lifmunk sows berries exactly as legally as a Dandilord does — rank buys speed, not access. The eighth structure is the [Ancient Farm](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-ancient-farm), and that one demands rank 6 across three separate jobs, which is where the whole roster suddenly matters. The other thing to internalise early: Planting never works alone. Every plot in the game needs a planter, a waterer and a harvester, so a base with one great Planting Pal and nothing else grows nothing.

| What | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Pals with Planting | 45 of 288 — the seventh-widest job, just under Watering's 46 |
| Rank ceiling | 8 — held by one Pal, [Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) |
| Rank spread | 8×1 · 7×2 · 6×3 · 5×4 · 4×5 · 3×16 · 2×9 · 1×5 |
| Rank a plantation needs | **Lv. 1** for all seven crop plots — rank only sets how fast the seeds go in |
| The one exception | — Planting 6, Watering 6 and Gathering 6, all three |
| It never works alone | Every plot also needs Watering and Gathering, so budget three Pals per crop line |
| Base Work Speed | 100 on all 288 Pals — nobody starts with an edge, so rank and passives are the whole story |
| Permanent +1 | [Applied Planting Handbook I](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorkSuitability_AddTicket_Seeding) — 300 Dog Coins at the Medal Shop |
| Speed structure | at Tech Lv. 25 — one per base, a second does nothing |
| Biggest passive stack | +240% Work Speed across four slots |
| First unlock | at Tech Lv. 5 — 3 Berry Seeds, 10 Wood, 10 Stone |

## Best Planting Pals in Palworld

These 15 are every Pal at Planting 4 or better. Read the last column before the rank column, because two of the top six have no wild spawn points at all — [Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) and [Silvance](https://palworld-db.com/pal/silvance) both breed only from a pair of themselves, which means you can't breed your way into either one. That leaves [Lyleen](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lyleen) as the best planter you can realistically go and catch tonight, at rank 7 across 42 spawn points. If you just want a plot running cheaply, [Broncherry](https://palworld-db.com/pal/broncherry) does rank 5 work on 6 food and turns up on 482 spawn points, which is more presence than every rank 6 and 7 planter in the game put together.

| Pal | Planting | Other jobs it does | Food | Night shift | How to get it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) | **8** | Handiwork 6 · Medicine Production 6 · Gathering 5 · Transporting 3 | 9 | Yes | **No wild spawn points**, and the only pair that hatches one is Dandilord × Dandilord |

### Dandilord Is Rank 8 and Almost Unobtainable

[Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) is the only Planting 8 in the game and it isn't close — it also carries Handiwork 6, Medicine Production 6 and Gathering 5, so a single one covers most of a small base on its own. The catch is availability: it has no wild spawn points anywhere on the map, and the only breeding pair that produces one is Dandilord × Dandilord, so the breeding farm is a duplicator here, not a route in. It also runs nocturnal, which means it works your plots through the night while your day shift sleeps — genuinely useful if you time your log-offs around it. Budget 9 food per feeding, the joint-highest appetite of any planter.

### Lyleen Is the Best Planter You Can Actually Catch

[Lyleen](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lyleen) sits one rank below the ceiling at Planting 7, and it is the pick that matters for almost everyone. It spawns at 42 points on the map plus a Lv. 58 alpha, so you can farm as many as you want, and it eats 8 — one less than Dandilord for one less rank. The part nobody mentions: Lyleen also has Gathering 6, making it the only Pal in the game that clears **two** of the Ancient Farm's three rank 6 gates by itself. Slot one in and you've solved both the sowing and the harvesting half of your endgame farm with a single body.

### Broncherry and Braloha Are the Volume Picks

If you're building the farm before you're ready to hunt rank 6s, take rank 5 and take a lot of it. [Broncherry](https://palworld-db.com/pal/broncherry) appears at 482 spawn points on 6 food and has no other work suitability at all, so it will never wander off to a workbench mid-crop — a real advantage in a mixed base. [Braloha](https://palworld-db.com/pal/braloha) covers 247 points and pairs Planting 5 with Gathering 5, which means one Braloha can sow a plot and then harvest it. Both are XL Pals, so give them room; a cramped plot is the usual reason a big worker stands around doing nothing.

### Needoll Is the Cheapest Body in the Job

Work rank is not the only currency — food is, and [Needoll](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll) wins that column outright. It does Planting 3 on an appetite of **2**, which is 1.5 ranks per food when nothing else in the job manages even 0.9. Six Needolls eat less than two Dandilords and out-sow them by a wide margin, and Needoll turns up on 366 spawn points as an XS Pal that fits anywhere. [Needoll Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll-noct) is the same deal on 325 night-only points if you want a shift that works while you sleep. This is the setup to run before your base level supports big eaters.

## The Ancient Farm's Rank 6 Gate

The [Ancient Farm](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-ancient-farm) at Tech Lv. 78 is the only Planting structure with a real requirement, and it's a triple one: Planting 6, Watering 6 and Gathering 6. Exactly six Pals in the game clear the Planting half of that gate, and the table below is all of them. Look at the other two columns and the problem is obvious — not one of the six brings a rank 6 Watering, and only Lyleen brings a rank 6 Gathering. A working Ancient Farm therefore needs at least two Pals and usually three: Lyleen for Planting and Gathering, then a dedicated waterer from the short list of [Shaolong](https://palworld-db.com/pal/shaolong) at 8, [Jormuntide](https://palworld-db.com/pal/jormuntide) and [Neptilius](https://palworld-db.com/pal/neptilius) at 7, or [Faleris Aqua](https://palworld-db.com/pal/faleris-aqua) and [Suzaku Aqua](https://palworld-db.com/pal/suzaku-aqua) at 6.

| Pal | Planting | Watering | Gathering | Clears the Ancient Farm on its own? |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) | **8** | — | 5 | No — Gathering is one short and it has no Watering |
| [Lyleen](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lyleen) | 7 | — | **6** | **Two gates of three** — the best single body for the farm |
| [Ophydia](https://palworld-db.com/pal/ophydia) | 7 | 5 | — | No — Watering is one short, fixable with a handbook |
| [Carnibora](https://palworld-db.com/pal/carnibora) | 6 | — | 4 | No — Planting only |
| [Mycora](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mycora) | 6 | — | 4 | No — Planting only |
| [Silvance](https://palworld-db.com/pal/silvance) | 6 | — | 4 | No — Planting only |

The handbook is the cheap way around all of this. [Applied Planting Handbook I](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorkSuitability_AddTicket_Seeding) permanently adds +1 Planting to whichever Pal reads it, and it costs 300 Dog Coins at the Medal Shop. Feed one to a rank 5 planter and [Broncherry](https://palworld-db.com/pal/broncherry), [Braloha](https://palworld-db.com/pal/braloha), [Quivern Botan](https://palworld-db.com/pal/quivern-botan) or [Tropicaw](https://palworld-db.com/pal/tropicaw) all become Ancient Farm legal — which is a far shorter trip than hunting a Pal that has no spawn points. The same trick works on [Ophydia](https://palworld-db.com/pal/ophydia)'s Watering 5, and the [handbook and condenser rank-up guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-rank-up-pals) covers the full set of twelve.

## Every Plantation That Needs Planting

Eight structures use Planting, and seven of them are ordinary crop plots that any planter can staff. Note how the build cost jumps out of order: the [Lettuce](https://palworld-db.com/item/Lettuce) plot at Tech Lv. 25 is the single most expensive standard plantation in the game at 100 Wood, 70 Stone and 10 Aquatic Pal Fluids — more than the Carrot and Onion plots that unlock ten tech levels later. If you're pacing your unlocks, berries and wheat cost almost nothing and cover the early food problem, and tomato is the first plot that genuinely bites into your Fluids stock. Each harvest pays out 10 of the crop regardless of which plot it came from.

| Plantation | Tech Lv. | Crop | Growth time | Build cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | 5 | [Red Berries](https://palworld-db.com/item/Berries) | 3.0 min | 3 [Berry Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/BerrySeeds) · 10 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) · 10 [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone) |
| | 15 | [Wheat](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wheat) | 4.5 min | 3 [Wheat Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/WheatSeeds) · 15 Wood · 15 Stone |
| | 21 | [Tomato](https://palworld-db.com/item/Tomato) | 5.0 min | 3 [Tomato Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/TomatoSeeds) · 70 Wood · 50 Stone · 5 [Aquatic Pal Fluids](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalFluid) |
| | 25 | [Lettuce](https://palworld-db.com/item/Lettuce) | 5.5 min | 3 [Lettuce Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/LettuceSeeds) · **100 Wood · 70 Stone · 10 Aquatic Pal Fluids** |
| | 29 | [Potato](https://palworld-db.com/item/Potato) | 5.8 min | 3 [Potato Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/PotatoSeeds) · 30 Wood · 20 Stone · 3 Aquatic Pal Fluids |
| | 32 | [Carrot](https://palworld-db.com/item/Carrot) | 6.2 min | 3 [Carrot Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarrotSeeds) · 30 Wood · 20 Stone · 1 Aquatic Pal Fluids |
| | 36 | [Onion](https://palworld-db.com/item/Onion) | 6.5 min | 3 [Onion Seeds](https://palworld-db.com/item/OnionSeeds) · 30 Wood · 20 Stone · 2 Aquatic Pal Fluids |
| | **78** | Any of the above | Same as the plot's crop | 50 [Paloxite Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorldTreeIngot) · 50 [World Tree Holy Water](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorldTreeHolyWater) · 100 [Mythical Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_WorldTree) · 10 [Ancient Civilization Core](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientParts2) |

Growth time is only half the throughput story. A crop's total work — the combined planting, watering and harvesting effort your base Pals pour into one cycle — climbs much faster than the timer does: red berries finish in 3 minutes for 13,500 work, while onions take 6.5 minutes and 63,000. That's roughly 4.7× the labour for 2.2× the wait, so a base full of onion plots keeps every worker pinned far longer than the clock suggests. The full crop table lives on the [Palworld crop growth times page](https://palworld-db.com/farm).

## Speed Planting Up: Silo, Handbook and Passives

Since every Pal in the game starts at 100 base Work Speed, the only levers you actually have are the Silo, the handbook and the four passive slots. The unlocks at Tech Lv. 25 for 30 Wood, 20 Stone, 30 Fiber and 10 Cement, and it raises planting speed across the whole base just by existing — no Pal staffs it. Build exactly one: the game states outright that a second Silo does nothing, and people waste materials on rows of them constantly. Passives are the bigger multiplier. The four best Work Speed traits stack to **+240%**, and unlike the Silo they follow the Pal, so it's worth rolling them onto whoever you plan to keep.

| Passive | Work Speed | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Demon's Hand | **+90%** | The biggest in the game, but SAN drains 15% faster — pair it with a hot spring |
| Remarkable Craftsmanship | +75% | Pure upside, no drawback |
| Artisan | +50% | The common one you'll actually roll |
| Speedy Worker Lv. 4 | +25% | Top tier of the four-step Speedy Worker line |
| Serious | +20% | Fine filler on an early planter |
| Hermit Sage | −20% | Halves SAN loss but costs you speed — a trade, not a buff |
| Clumsy | −10% | Reroll it |
| Slacker | −30% | Reroll it — the worst work trait in the game |

> **Tip.** Two shortcuts worth more than any single catch. First, [Lyleen](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lyleen) is the only Pal that clears two of the Ancient Farm's three rank 6 gates by itself, so if you're hunting one endgame Pal for your farm, hunt that one. Second, if food is your bottleneck rather than speed, [Needoll](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll) delivers Planting 3 on an appetite of 2 — six of them cost less to feed than two Dandilords and sow far more ground.

## Every Other Planting Pal

Sixteen Pals sit at Planting 3, and this is where most players actually build their first farm — these are common, cheap to feed and easy to catch in bulk. [Prunelia](https://palworld-db.com/pal/prunelia) has the widest presence of any planter in the game at 638 spawn points, [Needoll](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll) and [Needoll Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll-noct) are the appetite champions at 2 food, and [Dualith](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dualith) is the odd one out: only Planting 3, but Mining 6 and Transporting 6 alongside it, so it earns its slot by doing three jobs rather than one well.

| Pal | Food | Spawn points | Night shift | Also does |

| [Mossanda](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mossanda) | **4** | 52 | No | Lumbering 4 · Transporting 4 · Handiwork 2 |
| [Vaelet](https://palworld-db.com/pal/vaelet) | 5 | 32 | No | Handiwork 3 · Gathering 3 · Medicine Production 3 |
| [Lullu](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lullu) | **4** | 20 | No | Handiwork 3 · Medicine Production 3 · Gathering 2 |

| [Dualith Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dualith-noct) | 8 | 3 | Yes | Mining 6 · Transporting 6 · Lumbering 5 |

Below that, nine Pals hold Planting 2 — [Caprity](https://palworld-db.com/pal/caprity), [Caprity Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/caprity-noct), [Bristla](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bristla), [Cinnamoth](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cinnamoth), [Ribbuny Botan](https://palworld-db.com/pal/ribbuny-botan), [Beegarde](https://palworld-db.com/pal/beegarde), [Robinquill](https://palworld-db.com/pal/robinquill), [Flopie](https://palworld-db.com/pal/flopie) and [Souffline](https://palworld-db.com/pal/souffline) — and five hold Planting 1: [Lifmunk](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lifmunk), [Herbil](https://palworld-db.com/pal/herbil), [Gumoss](https://palworld-db.com/pal/gumoss), [Tanzee](https://palworld-db.com/pal/tanzee) and [Clovee](https://palworld-db.com/pal/clovee). None of these are worth a dedicated slot once you can catch a rank 3, but any of them will legally staff a Berry Plantation on hour one, and Caprity alone covers 393 spawn points. The [full Planting suitability list](https://palworld-db.com/best-pals/planting) and the [work optimizer](https://palworld-db.com/work-optimizer) let you filter the whole roster by the jobs your base is missing.

## The Short Answer

Catch a [Lyleen](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lyleen) and put it on your farm — Planting 7 plus Gathering 6 solves two thirds of the Ancient Farm with one body, and it spawns freely at 42 points. [Dandilord](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dandilord) is stronger at Planting 8 but has no spawns and no breeding route in, so treat it as a bonus rather than a plan. Before you get there, run a wall of [Needoll](https://palworld-db.com/pal/needoll) or [Broncherry](https://palworld-db.com/pal/broncherry) on your seven crop plots, since every one of them only requires rank 1 anyway. Build one at Tech Lv. 25, buy the 300 Dog Coin [Applied Planting Handbook I](https://palworld-db.com/item/WorkSuitability_AddTicket_Seeding) when a rank 5 planter is one short of the Ancient Farm gate, and roll toward the +240% Work Speed passive stack on whoever you keep.
