You cannot throw a Pal on a fire and eat it — there is no cook prompt on a Pal in Palworld, alive or knocked out, and no kitchen in the game takes a whole Pal as an ingredient. What you cook is the **meat it leaves behind**, and this guide covers all 17 cuts, which of the 288 Pals actually drop one, what each cut turns into, and every station that can cook it.

## Can You Cook a Pal in Palworld?

Short answer: no, and the game is fairly blunt about it. A Pal is never an ingredient. Defeat one, catch one, or put one under the [Meat Cleaver](https://palworld-db.com/item/MeatCutterKnife) and it pays out its drop table instead, and for a small minority of Pals that table contains a cut of meat. Everything else in Palworld's cooking system runs on those cuts plus crops, eggs and milk. The number that surprises most players is how small that minority is: **25 of the game's 288 Pals** drop meat at all, which means the other 263 are worth exactly nothing to a kitchen no matter how you kill them.

## How to Turn a Pal Into Food

There are four routes to a cut of meat and they are not equivalent. Killing is free but you have to find the Pal; catching pays the same drop **and** keeps the Pal; butchering lets you farm a cut on demand from your own base; buying skips the hunt entirely if you have gold spare. Most runs end up using all four at different points, and the one players skip for far too long is the second one.

### Beat It or Catch It

Every meat drop in the game sits at **100%**, so a kill is never a wasted trip — the only variable is how many cuts fall, and that ranges from 1 on [Chikipi](https://palworld-db.com/pal/chikipi) to 2 on [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) and up to 3 on [Mozzarina](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mozzarina). The part worth knowing is that a **successful capture pays the drop too**. Throwing a sphere at a [Chikipi](https://palworld-db.com/pal/chikipi) fills your Paldeck entry, gives you a Pal you can stick on a ranch, and still hands over the poultry, so there is almost never a reason to kill a low-level food Pal outright. Save the killing for the big Pals you already own copies of.

### Butcher It With the Meat Cleaver

The cleaver is the answer to "I need eight Mammorest Meat and I do not want to fly across the map eight times". Equip it and the Pet command on any Pal in your party becomes Butcher, which rolls that Pal's entire drop table on the spot. It unlocks at technology level 12 for 2 points and costs pocket change to build, so it is available long before the meats you actually care about are. ## Raw or Cooked: What Grilling Actually Adds

You can eat raw Pal meat straight out of your bag, and nothing bad happens — it just wastes most of the cut. Fourteen meats have a plain one-ingredient roast, and for eleven of them the trade is a flat **1.4x nutrition** plus a point of sanity for a few seconds at a fire. The two exceptions are the interesting ones. And [Roast Reindrix](https://palworld-db.com/item/BakedMeat_IceDeer) is the outlier of the whole system: 64 nutrition raw becomes **252 cooked**, a 3.9x return that ties it with the Mammorest and Broncherry roasts despite starting from a much cheaper cut. ## Where to Cook Pal Meat

Four kitchens handle every meat recipe in the game, and only one jump really matters. The  at level 2 is a single-ingredient grill and nothing more — it will roast a Chikipi and refuse everything else. The  at level 17 is where actual cooking starts, and it is the station most players stay on for the rest of the run. The  at level 41 cooks the same recipes far faster once you have power, and the  at level 49 is not just a speed upgrade — a handful of the strongest dishes, including the best attack and defense foods in the game, will not appear on any earlier station. ## The Dishes Worth Cooking

Thirty-eight recipes take Pal meat, and 24 of them are proper dishes with a timed buff attached rather than a plain roast. This is the part of cooking that repays the hunting. [Mammorest Curry](https://palworld-db.com/item/Curry) is the strongest attack food in Palworld at **+25%**, and it is also the highest-nutrition non-cake dish at 418 — one Mammorest kill is two bowls. [Galeclaw Nikujaga](https://palworld-db.com/item/MeatAndPotatoes) matches it on the defense side at +25%, off a common flyer instead of a giant. Catch two of each for the ranch first, then let everything after that go in the pot.
