# Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic Location

Where the Legendary Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor schematic drops in Palworld — the flat 3% roll off Alpha Astegon at level 55, the 0.05% Desert and Mount Obsidian supply drop rates, the 180 defence stat card at Tech Lv 40, and the full 214-material craft.

**Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor** unlocks at Technology Lv 40 and is the piece that carries most players through the Desert and Mount Obsidian — 180 defence, 500 HP, and a heat-resistance package that stops the environment chewing on your health bar. This guide covers the full stat card, the single Alpha boss that drops the **Legendary** schematic at a flat 3%, the supply-drop and chest pools every tier sits in, and exactly what 40 Refined Ingots traces back to in raw ore.

## Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Stats

The headline is **180 defence** — 30 more than the plain [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor) it upgrades from, for the same 500 HP and double the durability. That durability jump is the part people underrate: 1,500 to **3,000** means you repair half as often, and repairs are what actually cost you time in the volcano. Its resistance package is Heat 2, Cold 1 and a Fire damage reduction, which is the same combination every heat-resistant body armor from Tech Lv 25 up to Tech Lv 53 carries — the tier you pick changes the numbers, not the temperature protection.

| Stat | Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor |
| --- | --- |
| Slot | Body armor |
| Defence | **180** |
| HP bonus | **500** |
| Durability | **3,000** |
| Weight | 35 |
| Resistances | Heat 2 · Cold 1 · Fire damage reduction |
| Technology level | **Lv 40**, 4 Technology Points |
| Prerequisite | [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor) at Tech Lv 37 |
| Crafting station | Production Assembly Line (unlocks at Lv 29) |
| Crafting work | 70,000 |
| Legendary schematic | [Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) |
| Item value | 50,020 Gold |

Armor defence only means anything against other armor, so read 180 next to the rest of the body slot rather than against a weapon's attack number. In its own class it sits exactly where the tech tree says it should: comfortably above [Heat Resistant Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperArmorHeat) at 105, comfortably below [Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/StealArmorHeat) at 250. The [Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmorCold) is its mirror image — identical 180/500/3,000 stat line, Cold 2 instead of Heat 2, and it unlocks one level later at Tech 41. You do not need both unless you're bouncing between the volcano and the snowfields in the same session.

## Where the Legendary Schematic Drops

This is the unusual part, and it's the reason the schematic is worth a guide at all: **the Legendary is the only tier in the line with a boss source**. Schematics 1 through 3 come exclusively out of the wide background pool of supply drops, chests, camps and fishing spots. Schematic 4 comes out of that same pool *and* off **Alpha Astegon at a flat 3%** — a fixed, repeatable kill that beats the 0.05% supply-drop rate by a factor of 60.

| Schematic | Crafts | Alpha Astegon | Supply drops | Treasure maps | Chests, camps, fishing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Schematic 1](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_2) | Uncommon | — | **6.33%** | — | Yes |
| [Schematic 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_3) | Rare | — | 1.27% | Tier 2 | Yes |
| [Schematic 3](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_4) | Epic | — | 0.25% | Tier 2 | Yes |
| [Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) | **Legendary** | **3.0%** | 0.05% | Tier 2 | Yes |

Two details in that table save you time. **Schematic 1 is the only tier that treasure maps never produce**, so digging tier 2 maps can't waste a roll on the tier you already have piles of. And the supply-drop column collapses by roughly a fifth per tier — 6.33% down to 0.05% is about one Legendary every 2,000 drops, which is not a plan, it's an accident that occasionally happens. Every schematic in the game shows the same rolled-scroll model in your bag, so the four icons above are each tier's own art and the only way to tell them apart at a glance is the rarity border.

### Alpha Astegon — the 3% Boss Drop

This is the farm, full stop. **Alpha Astegon is a level 55 Dragon/Dark field boss**, and it is the only Pal in the entire game whose loot table contains a Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4. Astegon has no ordinary wild spawns on the main map, so the Alpha lair is the only place you'll meet one — a fixed pin that respawns, which turns the 3% into a roll you can take on a loop instead of a one-shot chest.

| Fight | Alpha Astegon |
| --- | --- |
| Level | **55** |
| Elements | Dragon / Dark — bring Ice or Dragon |
| Damage taken | **×0.24** (a 76% cut — the whole difficulty of the fight) |
| HP multiplier | ×1.0 — no bonus health |
| Damage dealt | ×1.0 — no bonus damage |
| Cooldown multiplier | ×1.0 |
| Base Pal stats | 100 HP · 100 melee · 125 ranged · 125 defence |
| Wild spawns | **None** — Alpha lair only |
| Map | [Show Alpha Astegon's pin](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=BlackMetalDragon) |

No health buff, no damage buff, just the flat 76% damage reduction stacked on top of an already high 125 base defence. Astegon can't burst you down; it can absolutely out-last you if your damage isn't elemental, and a level 55 fight that drags is a fight you lose to ammo. The consolation is that the loot pays out even on a failed roll, and it pays out in exactly the currency you need:

| Drop | Chance | Amount |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Ancient Civilization Parts](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalCrystal_Ex) | 100% | **5-7** |
| [Precious Dragon Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalItem_ToSell_01) | 100% | 4-6 |
| [Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) | **3%** | 1 |

Here's the neat part nobody mentions: **Legendary body armor recipes require Ancient Civilization Parts**, and Astegon hands you 5-7 of them every single kill. The Legendary version of the plain [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor_5) needs exactly 6. So the boss that gates the schematic also funds the craft — grind it long enough to see the 3%, and you'll be sitting on far more parts than the armor consumes. The Precious Dragon Stones are pure profit at 15,000 Gold each to a merchant.

### What Astegon Actually Throws At You

By level 55 Astegon has eight moves online and every one of them is a ranged shot — there is no melee punish to bait, which is why standing still is the single worst thing you can do here. The fight is defined by two 450-power attacks and one 600-power one, all on 20-30 second cooldowns, with a 40-power chip attack filling every gap. Learn the three big ones and the rest is noise.

| Move | Element | Power | Cooldown | Range | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Dragon Meteor | Dragon | **600** | 30s | 500-5000 | Its hardest hit and it reaches anywhere — watch the wind-up and move |
| Firefist Breathstorm | Dragon | 450 | 20s | 0-1000 | Close-range nuke; the reason you don't hug it |
| Dark Laser | Dark | 450 | 20s | 500-1800 | Mid-range beam — sidestep, don't backpedal |
| Nightmare Ball | Dark | 300 | 16s | 1000-5000 | Long-range only; getting inside 1000 turns it off |
| Spirit Flame | Dark | 200 | 12s | 500-5000 | Constant mid-fight pressure |
| Dragon Breath | Dragon | 160 | 8s | 500-1500 | The band it wants you in — keep moving through it |
| Dragon Burst | Dragon | 80 | 4s | 0-200 | Point-blank only |
| Dragon Cannon | Dragon | 40 | 2s | 500-4000 | Chip damage; ignore it and keep firing |

The range bands are the exploitable bit. **Nightmare Ball needs 1,000 units of distance**, so closing the gap deletes a 300-power attack from its rotation — but closing all the way inside 1,000 puts you in Firefist Breathstorm's window instead. The sweet spot is the middle, moving laterally, and burning your damage right after a Dragon Meteor lands, because that's a 30-second window where nothing above 450 can come out. One more thing: **Astegon's Dragon moves punish Dark-element Pals**, so leave your Dark bruisers at home even if their attack stat looks good.

### The Team to Bring

Dragon/Dark means two elements hit it hard — **Ice** beats its Dragon half, **Dragon** beats its Dark half — and with a 76% damage cut in play that multiplier isn't a bonus, it's the entire fight. Ice is the safer of the two because none of Astegon's moves punish Ice Pals back. [Cryolinx](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cryolinx) is the practical answer: the highest melee attack of any Ice Pal, wild-catchable across 39 spawn spots, so you don't need to beat another Alpha to get one.

| Pal | Elements | Melee / Ranged | HP | Why bring it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Cryolinx](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cryolinx) | Ice | **140** / 100 | 100 | Top Ice melee attack in the game, and 39 wild spots means no Alpha gate |
| [Bastigor](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bastigor) | Ice | 100 / **130** | **140** | S-tier in combat, tankiest of the Ice picks, 69 wild spots |
| [Frostallion](https://palworld-db.com/pal/frostallion) | Ice | 100 / **140** | **140** | The best Ice Pal outright — but it's a level 60 Alpha itself, so it's the return trip |
| [Loupmoon Cryst](https://palworld-db.com/pal/loupmoon-cryst) | Ice | 130 / 105 | 80 | 461 wild spots — by far the easiest Ice attacker to actually find |
| [Jormuntide Ignis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/jormuntide-ignis) | Dragon/Fire | **150** / 130 | 130 | S-tier; Dragon damage hits Astegon's Dark half |
| [Shaolong](https://palworld-db.com/pal/shaolong) | Dragon/Water | 100 / 135 | **140** | S-tier and a 2,800 sprint mount — fastest way to run the loop |

If you're farming a 3% drop, **the travel time matters more than the fight time**, which is why Shaolong earns a row it wouldn't earn on damage alone — it's the second-fastest mount in the game and it turns a long round trip into a short one. Frostallion is the strongest thing on the list and also the most awkward suggestion, since beating a level 60 Alpha to farm a level 55 one is backwards; treat it as the upgrade once you've cleared it for other reasons. Full stats and spawn points are on each Pal's page, the [Palworld tier list](https://palworld-db.com/tier-list) ranks the rest of the roster, and [mount speeds](https://palworld-db.com/mount-speeds) compares every ride.

### Desert and Mount Obsidian Supply Drops

Supply drops are the only source with a published number for every tier, and this line appears in exactly **two of the eight regional tables** — Desert and Mount Obsidian, which are the two places you'd actually be wearing heat gear. Both regions run identical odds across a 52-item pool, so it makes no difference which one you camp.

| Schematic | Crafts | Desert | Mount Obsidian |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Schematic 1](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_2) | Uncommon | **6.33%** | **6.33%** |
| [Schematic 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_3) | Rare | 1.27% | 1.27% |
| [Schematic 3](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_4) | Epic | 0.25% | 0.25% |
| [Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) | **Legendary** | 0.05% | 0.05% |

Chase the top row, not the bottom one. At **6.33%** the Schematic 1 is one of the most common things in either pool, which makes supply drops the **feeder** for the Drafting Table rather than a Legendary source in their own right. Bank the Uncommons and Rares while you're passing, let Astegon's 3% handle the Legendary, and never sit waiting on a 0.05%. Every region's complete loot pool is on the [Palworld supply drops page](https://palworld-db.com/supply-drops).

### Chests, Camps and Fishing Spots

All four tiers share one wide background pool, and it's wider than most weapon schematics get — four regions of chests, three regions of enemy camps split between ordinary loot and boss stashes, four regions of fishing spots, and tier 2 treasure maps. This is loot you collect by playing normally rather than by farming, and the Snowfields and Sakurajima entries mean the schematic keeps dropping long after you've left the hot regions behind.

| Source | Regions | Tiers | Map |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Treasure chests | Desert, Mount Obsidian, Snowfields, Sakurajima | All four | [263](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=chest_desert) · [137](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=chest_mountobsidian) · [178](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=chest_snowfields) · [68](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=chest_sakurajima) pins |
| Enemy camp loot | Desert, Snowfields | All four | [58 enemy camps](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=camp) |
| Enemy camp boss stashes | Desert, Mount Obsidian, Snowfields | All four | [58 enemy camps](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=camp) |
| Fishing spots | Desert, Mount Obsidian, Snowfields | All four | [367 spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=fishing) · [102 rare](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=fishing_rare) |
| Fishing treasure spots | Sakurajima | All four | [102 rare spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=fishing_rare) |
| Treasure map digs (tier 2) | Anywhere | Schematics 2, 3, 4 | — |

The row worth acting on is **enemy camp boss stashes**. Camp bosses carry the schematic in three separate regions and there are only 58 camps on the whole map, so a camp circuit is a genuinely dense route compared to hunting 263 individual desert chests. The fishing rows are the freebie — leaving a rod at a Desert or Mount Obsidian spot between Astegon runs costs you nothing and rolls the same table. The [fishing database](https://palworld-db.com/fishing) lists every catch, and the [Palworld Fishing Guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/fishing-guide) covers which rods and bait are worth the trouble.

## Build It Instead: The Drafting Table Route

The **Drafting Table** unlocks at Technology Lv 45 for 4 Technology Points and merges **five identical schematics into one of the next rarity up**. This line supports the full ladder with no missing rungs, which isn't true of everything in the game. The catch is the timing: the armor unlocks at Lv 40 and the table at Lv 45, so there are five levels where you can hoard schematics but can't combine any of them.

| Target | Combine cost | Equivalent in Schematic 1s |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Schematic 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_3) | 5× [Schematic 1](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_2) | 5 |
| [Schematic 3](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_4) | 5× [Schematic 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_3) | 25 |
| [Schematic 4 (Legendary)](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) | 5× [Schematic 3](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_4) | **125** |

125 Schematic 1s is the paper worst case, and at a 6.33% supply-drop rate that's roughly 2,000 supply drops of grinding for one Legendary. Nobody should pay that when a 3% boss roll exists. Combine at the top of the ladder only — bank Schematic 3s until you're holding five — and resist spending Uncommons the moment you can, because those are the rolls you'll want back when a lucky Epic lands and you're one short. The table costs 20 [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot), 10 [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood) and 30 [Charcoal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Charcoal) to build; the [schematic upgrade guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-upgrade-schematics) has the full rules.

> **Tip.** Craft the Common version the day you hit Tech 40 and stop waiting for a rarity roll. Every tier of this armor gives the identical Heat 2 resistance — rarity only moves the defence and HP numbers, never the temperature protection — so a Common Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor you're wearing in the volcano tonight beats a Legendary schematic you haven't rolled. Kill Alpha Astegon whenever you're near the pin; even at zero luck it pays 5-7 [Ancient Civilization Parts](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalCrystal_Ex) and 4-6 [Precious Dragon Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalItem_ToSell_01) per run.

## How to Craft Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor

Whichever schematic tier you're holding, the base recipe is four materials on the **Production Assembly Line** for 70,000 work. Nothing in it is regional or endgame — no ancient parts, no Sakurajima ore, no Soralite. If your base already smelts Refined Ingots and you've killed a few Fire Pals, you can build this tonight.

| Material | Qty | Made at / from |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) | **40** | Improved Furnace (Tech Lv 34) — 2 [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) + 2 [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) each |
| [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) | **20** | Pal drops — [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) pays 5-10 at 100% |
| [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) | 2 | Tech Lv 36 — 10 [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) + 1 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) each |
| [Flame Organ](https://palworld-db.com/item/FireOrgan) | **12** | Fire Pal drops — table below |

Trace all four lines down to things you pick off the ground or off a corpse and one suit works out to **214 raw units**. The Coal half of the ingot cost is the only line worth planning around, because 80 Coal is a real dent at Tech 40 and coal nodes are half as common as ore nodes. Everything else a functioning base already produces while you're out hunting.

| Raw material | Total for one suit | Where to get it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) | **80** | [1,632 nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_copperore) |
| [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) | **80** | [824 nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_coal) |
| [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) | 22 | [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) at 5-10 per kill, 100% |
| [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) | 20 | [Kingpaca](https://palworld-db.com/pal/kingpaca) 5 · [Sweepa](https://palworld-db.com/pal/sweepa) 3-5 · [Melpaca](https://palworld-db.com/pal/melpaca) 2-5, all 100% |
| [Flame Organ](https://palworld-db.com/item/FireOrgan) | 12 | Fire Pals at 100% — see below |

For comparison, the plain [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor) one tech node below costs 30 ingots, 15 leather and 1 cloth for 50,000 work. The heat version is roughly a third more expensive across the board plus 12 Flame Organs, and it buys you +30 defence and double the durability on top of the heat resistance. That's a good trade at any point in the game, and it's why almost nobody stops at the plain version.

### Fastest Flame Organ Farm

Twelve Flame Organs is one short hunting trip, not a project — every Fire Pal in the game drops them at **100%**, so it's purely a question of how many per kill. [Blazamut](https://palworld-db.com/pal/blazamut) is the outlier at a flat 10 every time, meaning two kills cover an entire suit. If you'd rather not fight a Blazamut, [Suzaku](https://palworld-db.com/pal/suzaku) and [Ragnahawk](https://palworld-db.com/pal/ragnahawk) are close behind and far more common.

| Pal | Flame Organ per kill | Drop rate |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Blazamut](https://palworld-db.com/pal/blazamut) | **10** | 100% |
| [Suzaku](https://palworld-db.com/pal/suzaku) | 5-10 | 100% |
| [Ragnahawk](https://palworld-db.com/pal/ragnahawk) | 5-7 | 100% |
| [Reptyro](https://palworld-db.com/pal/reptyro) | 5-7 | 100% |
| [Bushi Noct](https://palworld-db.com/pal/bushi-noct) | 4-8 | 100% |
| [Pyrin](https://palworld-db.com/pal/pyrin) | 4-5 | 100% |
| [Blazehowl](https://palworld-db.com/pal/blazehowl) | 3-5 | 100% |

Every Pal on that list lives in the Desert or Mount Obsidian, which is the same trip you're taking to farm the schematic in the first place. Stack the errands: run the camp circuit for chest rolls, kill Fire Pals on the way for organs, and end at Astegon's pin. The full drop table for every material is on the [Palworld items database](https://palworld-db.com/items).

## Can You Even Build It Yet?

Technology Lv 40 is the headline gate, but four supporting nodes sit underneath it and each one has its own level and its own station. Work down this checklist before you go schematic hunting — a Legendary schematic in your bag does nothing at all until the bench and the ingots exist to use it.

| Requirement | Unlocks at | Why you need it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Production Assembly Line | Tech Lv 29, 3 points | The bench the armor is built on — 100 [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot) + 20 [Nail](https://palworld-db.com/item/MachineParts) + 10 [Cement](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cement) + 5 [Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/Processed_Wood) to build |
| Improved Furnace | Tech Lv 34, 4 points | Refined Ingot — 40 of them per suit |
| [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) | Tech Lv 36, 2 points | 2 per suit |
| [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor) | Tech Lv 37, 3 points | Direct prerequisite for the heat version |
| **Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor** | **Tech Lv 40**, 4 points | The recipe itself |
| Drafting Table | Tech Lv 45, 4 points | Combining schematics upward — five levels after the armor |

Seven Technology Points across Lv 37 and Lv 40 covers the armor and its prerequisite together, and every point here is an ordinary Technology Point rather than the Ancient kind you pry out of tower bosses. The sequencing note that actually bites is the last row again: **you'll be collecting schematics for five levels before you can combine any of them**, which is one more argument for going straight at Astegon's 3%. The full tree is on the [Palworld technology page](https://palworld-db.com/tech).

## How It Compares to Every Other Heat Armor

Eight body armors carry heat resistance and they form a clean ladder from Tech Lv 9 to Tech Lv 75. Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor sits fourth, and it occupies the longest gap in that ladder — the jump from Tech 25 to Tech 40 is fifteen levels with nothing in between, which is exactly why so many players are wearing 105-defence Metal Armor far longer than they should be.

| Armor | Tech | Defence | HP | Durability | Weight | Heat |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Heat-Resistant Ancient Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientArmorHeat) | 75 | **840** | **2,400** | **25,000** | 35 | Heat 3 |
| [Heat Resistant Hexolite Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/SFArmorHeat) | 63 | 600 | 1,750 | 18,000 | 35 | **Heat 3** |
| [Heat Resistant Plasteel Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/PlasticArmorHeat) | 53 | 400 | 1,300 | 18,000 | 35 | Heat 2 |
| [Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/StealArmorHeat) | 48 | 250 | 750 | 10,000 | 40 | Heat 2 |
| [Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmorHeat) | **40** | **180** | 500 | 3,000 | 35 | Heat 2 |
| [Heat Resistant Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperArmorHeat) | 25 | 105 | 250 | 1,400 | 30 | Heat 2 |
| [Heat Resistant Pelt Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/FurArmorHeat) | 16 | 45 | 140 | 600 | 10 | Heat 2 |
| [Tropical Outfit](https://palworld-db.com/item/ClothArmorHeat) | 9 | 25 | 70 | 300 | 4 | Heat 2 |

Read the last column before the first one. **Everything from the Tropical Outfit at Tech 9 to Plasteel at Tech 53 gives identical Heat 2 protection** — only Hexolite and Ancient Armor reach Heat 3. So upgrading through this ladder never makes you more heat-resistant, it only makes you harder to kill while you're hot. If your only problem is the environment, the [Tropical Outfit](https://palworld-db.com/item/ClothArmorHeat) at Tech 9 solves it for 4 weight. If your problem is the things living in the volcano, that's when 180 defence starts mattering. [Every armor piece in the game](https://palworld-db.com/armor) is compared on the armor database.

### What a Legendary Version Actually Gains

Rarity raises the crafted armor's numbers, and the plain [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor) line is the one Refined-tier armor whose five rarity steps are laid out end to end in the game. It climbs **150 → 195 → 210 → 225 → 240** defence, which is exactly ×1.3, ×1.4, ×1.5 and ×1.6 of base — and the same four multipliers hold on every other armor family in the game, from Cloth to Pal Metal. Each step also stacks an accuracy bonus the base version doesn't have, and adds Ancient Civilization Parts to the recipe.

| Rarity | Plain Refined Metal Armor | HP | Extra recipe cost | Heat version (estimated) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Common | 150 | 500 | — | **180** |
| Uncommon | 195 | 650 | 3 Ancient Civilization Parts | ~234 |
| Rare | 210 | 700 | 4 Ancient Civilization Parts | 252 |
| Epic | 225 | 750 | 5 Ancient Civilization Parts | ~270 |
| **Legendary** | **240** | **800** | **6 Ancient Civilization Parts** | **~288** |

Pocketpair has never published the per-rarity multipliers, so treat the right-hand column as the plain line's own curve applied to 180 — a close estimate rather than a measured number. **180 is the only figure in that column that's certain.** What isn't in doubt is the shape: a Legendary lands roughly 60% above the Common, the HP bonus climbs to 800, and the recipe roughly doubles in ingots and leather on top of the Ancient Civilization Parts.

That estimate is what makes this schematic worth farming rather than shrugging at. At an estimated ~288 defence, a Legendary Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor at **Tech Lv 40** would out-armor a Common [Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/StealArmorHeat) at Tech Lv 48 — eight full tech levels of progression, skipped. It would also beat the Legendary plain [Refined Metal Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmor_5) at 240 while keeping the heat resistance. That's the pitch: not a marginal upgrade, but a genuine tier-skip for a boss you can already beat.

## Other Armor Schematics With a Boss Source

Only **five armor schematics in the entire game** drop off a Pal, and all five are the Legendary tier at a flat 3%. Every other armor Legendary in Palworld has to come out of chests, supply drops or the Drafting Table. If you're building a farming route, this is the complete list — and Astegon is the second-hardest name on it.

| Schematic | Boss | Alpha level | Elements | Rate |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Cloth Outfit Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_ClothArmor_5) | [Chillet](https://palworld-db.com/pal/chillet) | 11 | Ice/Dragon | 3% |
| [Metal Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_CopperArmor_5) | [Kingpaca](https://palworld-db.com/pal/kingpaca) | 23 | Neutral | 3% |
| [Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorCold_5) | [Menasting](https://palworld-db.com/pal/menasting) | 44 | Dark/Ground | 3% |
| [Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_IronArmorHeat_5) | [Astegon](https://palworld-db.com/pal/astegon) | **55** | Dragon/Dark | 3% |
| [Lightweight Hexolite Armor Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_SFArmorWeight_5) | [Paladius](https://palworld-db.com/pal/paladius) | 60 | Neutral | 3% |

The two at the bottom are not the same difficulty despite being five levels apart. Astegon has **no HP or damage buff** — just the standard 76% damage cut — while Paladius carries a **×1.86 HP multiplier and an even harsher ×0.18 damage taken**, which makes it a far longer fight than its level suggests. Menasting at 44 is the sensible warm-up if you want to practise the pattern on a cheaper boss first; it drops the [Cold Resistant](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronArmorCold) mirror of this exact armor. [Every Alpha Pal and its multipliers](https://palworld-db.com/alpha-pals) is listed on the Alpha database.

## The Short Answer

Kill **Alpha Astegon**, the level 55 Dragon/Dark field boss with no wild spawns: it is the only Pal in the game that drops the Legendary Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor schematic, it drops it at a flat **3%**, and it respawns. Bring Ice — Cryolinx or Bastigor — because Astegon has no HP or damage buff, only a 76% damage cut, so elemental damage is the whole answer. Back that up with **Desert and Mount Obsidian supply drops** (6.33% for Schematic 1, 0.05% for the Legendary), plus chests, camp boss stashes and fishing spots across four regions. Build the Common version the moment you hit **Tech Lv 40** — 80 Ore, 80 Coal, 22 Leather, 20 Wool and 12 Flame Organ — and treat the **Drafting Table** at Lv 45 as the fallback, never the plan.
