Skim the set and it looks like pure dressing, but two entries are functional buildings wearing a Japanese coat of paint. The Japanese Paper Lantern sits in the **Lighting** tab, so it lights a room at night the way a torch or lamp does — build these instead of the ugly wall torches and your interior stops looking like a mining camp. The Japanese-Style Chest sits in **Storage** and holds items like any other chest; its recipe is the level 2 Wooden Chest's recipe with Hardwood swapped in for Wood, so it costs 15 Hardwood and 5 Stone instead of 15 Wood and 5 Stone. Everything else in the set is decoration only — the Hearth does not cook and the Floor Chair does not restore anything, so do not plan a base around them.

### How to Get 110 Hardwood

Hardwood only comes off the tougher trees — the ones growing in desert, volcanic and snowy ground — so a normal forest logging run gives you nothing. Three ways to close the 110, and the boring one wins: buy it. Four merchant families sell Hardwood at 100 Gold apiece, so the whole set's supply is 11,000 Gold, which is an afternoon of selling junk drops and far quicker than swinging an axe on Mount Obsidian. The short lines are all ranch problems, which means they solve themselves while you are away. Flame Organ and Aquatic Pal Fluids are three each, small enough that any Fire or Water Pal you kill on the way home covers it, though a [Kelpsea](https://palworld-db.com/pal/kelpsea) and a [Flambelle](https://palworld-db.com/pal/flambelle) parked on ranches means you never think about it again. The genuinely awkward one is the Beautiful Flower for the Flower Arrangement: only 27 pick-up spots exist across Palpagos, so kill a [Dualith](https://palworld-db.com/pal/dualith) for a guaranteed 3-5 instead, or hand a Caravan merchant 500 Gold.

## Building a Full Japanese Base

Furniture alone will not sell the look — it needs the walls to match, and the Japanese building pieces are a separate technology six levels earlier. Buy the Japanese-Style Structure Set at level 49 first: two points for 23 building parts, every one of them 4 Hardwood, so a whole house frame costs less Hardwood than four folding screens. From there the theme extends in cheap one-point steps, and the run ends at the [Japanese-Style Hot Spring](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-japanese-style-hot-spring) at level 64, which is the only entry on this list that does something mechanically useful for your Pals.

## Is the Japanese-Style Furniture Set Worth 2 Points?

If you care at all about how your base looks, yes — nothing else on the technology tree gives 13 build pieces for two points, and by level 55 you are earning points faster than you are spending them on gear you actually use. If you only build for function, skip it and take armor: 11 of the 13 pieces do nothing, and the two that do have plainer equivalents you unlocked 40 levels ago. The middle ground is fine too, since the set unlocks permanently — buy it now, build the Paper Lanterns and the Chest for the utility, and come back to the screens and bonsai when you have Hardwood to burn.
