Palworld caps how many weapons you can swap between mid-fight and how many food slots your team eats out of, and both caps are lifted by items you never equip — you just have to be carrying one. This guide covers both Extra Weapon Holsters, all five Feed Bags, the exact level gate, point cost and material list for each, plus the accessory and inventory upgrades that run on the same rule.

## Every Slot Upgrade and What It Costs

All four upgrade families work identically: the item sits in your inventory doing nothing visible, and the slot count goes up while it is there. Every one of them **weighs 0**, so none of them eats into your carry limit, and every one of them says the same thing in its description — carrying one is enough, so a second copy is wasted crafting. The important split is where they come from. The weapon holsters are the only slot upgrades parked on the **Ancient Technology** track, which means they cost a currency you can't get by levelling. Feed Bags and Pouches are ordinary Technology Points. The accessory boxes aren't in the technology tree at all — they are Medal Shop purchases and nothing else.

| Slot type | What adds it | Where it comes from | The gate |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Weapon slots | [Extra Weapon Holster](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_01) and [Extra Weapon Holster 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_02) | Ancient Technology | Lv 27 and Lv 54 — **5 Ancient Technology Points each** |
| Food slots | [Small Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier1) up to [Giant Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier5) | [Technology tree](https://palworld-db.com/tech) | Lv 9 to Lv 47 — **15 Technology Points** for the whole chain |
| Accessory slots | [Mysterious Accessory Box](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Accessory_01) and [Mystic Accessory Box](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Accessory_02) | Medal Shop only | **50** and **300 [Dog Coins](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin)** — no level requirement |
| Inventory slots | [Small Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_001) up to [Giant Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_004) | [Technology tree](https://palworld-db.com/tech) | Lv 27 to Lv 57 — **11 Technology Points** for the whole chain |

If you are picking one to chase first, it is the Feed Bag line by a mile — it starts at level 9 for a single Technology Point and it is the only one of the four that affects your Pals as well as you. The weapon holsters are the expensive ones, not in materials but in the 10 Ancient Technology Points you have to prise out of tower bosses.

## How to Get More Weapon Slots

There are exactly two weapon slot upgrades in the game and each one adds **one slot**. They are separate unlocks rather than a replacement chain, so once both are in your bag you are carrying two more weapons than you started with — a bow for softening things up, a rifle for the actual fight, a melee weapon for ore, and the launcher you only pull out for raids, all without a trip back to a chest. Neither has a technology prerequisite, so the only things standing between you and the first one are character level 27 and five Ancient Technology Points.

| Holster | Unlocks at | Point cost | Materials | Effect |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Extra Weapon Holster](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_01) | Ancient Technology, **Lv 27** | 5 Ancient Technology Points | 30 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 20 [Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/Processed_Wood), 20 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) | **+1 weapon slot** |
| [Extra Weapon Holster 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_02) | Ancient Technology, **Lv 54** | 5 Ancient Technology Points | 100 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 40 [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood), 40 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), 20 [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) | **+1 more weapon slot** |

The material bill is trivial next to the point cost. The first holster is 70 items of the cheapest kind in the game, all of it craftable at a workbench from the moment you can build one. The second is a different story — the [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood) and [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) both come off a Production Assembly Line, so the real prerequisite is having a base that processes materials rather than one that stores them.

### Extra Weapon Holster

The [Extra Weapon Holster](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_01) lands at level 27, which is about when you stop using one gun for everything and start wanting a ranged option, a melee option and something for ore all at once. Its recipe is 70 items of Fiber, Wooden Board and Leather — genuinely nothing — so the whole cost is the five Ancient Technology Points. Craft it once, drop it in your bag, forget about it. Every additional copy you craft does nothing at all, so if you find yourself with two, one of them is pure wasted Fiber.

### Extra Weapon Holster 2

[Extra Weapon Holster 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_02) doubles the level gate to **54** and costs another five Ancient Technology Points, but it does not replace the first holster — it adds on top of it, so you want both in your inventory at once. By the time you can buy it you are deep into the [late-game weapon tiers](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-weapons-by-tech-level), where the argument for a second extra slot is ammo rather than damage: a rocket launcher and an assault rifle burn through different ammo types, and the extra slot lets you switch instead of running dry.

### Where Ancient Technology Points Come From

Ancient Technology Points are the reason these two holsters feel expensive. You do not earn them by levelling — [tower boss](https://palworld-db.com/tower-bosses) victories are the main supply, and [Ancient Technology Books](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientTechnologyBook_G1) top you up in between, turning up in dungeon boss chests across the game's caverns. Ten points is a real budget when the same currency buys the [Pal Essence Condenser](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-rank-up-pals) and the ancient gear lines, so treat the first holster as the priority and the second as something you pick up once the essentials are unlocked.

## How to Get More Food Slots

Food slots are the ones people underrate. Food you put in them is eaten automatically — by you **and by the Pals on your team** — the moment anyone gets hungry, which means a well-stocked bag is the difference between a team fighting at full strength and a team quietly starving into a SAN spiral while you wonder why your damage dropped. There are five Feed Bags and the number in the name is the number of slots you get: the [Small Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier1) gives one, the [Giant Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier5) gives five. They are a tier chain, not a stack, so the best bag you are carrying is the one that counts.

| Feed Bag | Food slots | Unlocks at | Point cost | Materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Small Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier1) | **1** | Lv 9 | 1 | 5 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 10 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 3 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) |
| [Average Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier2) | **2** | Lv 14 | 2 | 10 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 30 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 10 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) |
| [Large Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier3) | **3** | Lv 23 | 3 | 20 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood), 50 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 20 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) |
| [Huge Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier4) | **4** | Lv 36 | 4 | 30 [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine), 90 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 35 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), 10 [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) |
| [Giant Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier5) | **5** | Lv 47 | 5 | 50 [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine), 200 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 50 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), 20 [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) |

Each bag lists the one below it as a prerequisite in the technology tree, so there is no skipping ahead — even if you hit level 47 with 15 unspent points you still have to buy all five in order. The costs climb in step with the tier, from a single point at level 9 to five at level 47, and the material jump is at the Huge Feed Bag: that is where the line switches from plain Wood to [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine) and starts asking for [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber). The Giant's 200 Fiber is the largest single material demand of any slot upgrade in the game.

### Small Feed Bag: the Best Technology Point You Will Ever Spend

One point, level 9, 5 Wood and a bit of Fiber and Leather. Before you have it, your Pals rely on you noticing they are hungry; after it, they feed themselves out of your bag. If you are reading this at low level, stop and go buy it — there is no other unlock this early that changes how a fight plays out this much, and it stays useful right up until the [Giant Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier5) replaces it 38 levels later.

### What to Keep in the Slots

Once you have three or more slots, stop filling them all with the same thing. One slot of raw filler food keeps hunger off you cheaply, and the rest should be cooked dishes that restore SAN as well as hunger, because SAN is what quietly wrecks a team's work speed and combat output. Our [guide to the best food for SAN](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-food-for-san) ranks every dish by what it actually restores, and the [cake guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/all-cakes-in-palworld) covers the one food you should never leave in a feed bag — your Pals will happily eat the cake you were saving for breeding.

## Accessory Slots: Two Boxes, Bought Not Crafted

Accessory slots follow the same carry-it rule but skip the technology tree entirely — there is no research to unlock and no recipe to craft. Both boxes are Medal Shop stock, so the only gate is Dog Coins, which means a low-level player with a coin stash can have both extra accessory slots before they can craft a single holster. Like the holsters, they add rather than replace, so both boxes in your bag means two extra accessories. These two are also the only slot items in the game that cap at a single copy in your inventory rather than stacking.

| Box | Effect | Price | Where |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Mysterious Accessory Box](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Accessory_01) | **+1 accessory slot** | **50 [Dog Coins](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin)** | Medal Shop — permanent stock, no rotation |
| [Mystic Accessory Box](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Accessory_02) | **+1 more accessory slot** | **300 [Dog Coins](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin)** | Medal Shop — permanent stock, no rotation |

At 50 coins the first box is the cheapest meaningful thing in the Medal Shop and it should be your opening purchase there — an entire extra accessory for the price of a rounding error next to the 300-coin items. Dog Coins themselves are lying around the world at [128 pickup points](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_dogcoin), and junk hauls while fishing in the Grasslands pay out **2-8 at a time**, so the 350 coins for both boxes is a weekend of casual collecting rather than a grind. Once you have the slots, the [full accessory list](https://palworld-db.com/accessories) is where you decide what to put in them.

## Inventory Slots: The Four Pouches

The Pouch line is the fourth family and the one people confuse with the Feed Bags, because the icons look similar and both are called bags in conversation. They do completely different jobs: a Feed Bag adds auto-eat food slots, a Pouch adds general inventory slots. The Pouches are a tier chain like the Feed Bags — each one requires the previous — and unlike the Feed Bags their descriptions never print a number, so the tier itself is the upgrade. They start at level 27, the same level as the first weapon holster, which makes that a busy point in the technology tree.

| Pouch | Unlocks at | Point cost | Materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Small Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_001) | Lv 27 | 2 | 10 [Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/Processed_Wood), 20 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 10 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) |
| [Medium Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_002) | Lv 43 | 2 | 50 [Hardwood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_Fine), 50 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 20 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) |
| [Large Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_003) | Lv 53 | 3 | 20 [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood), 80 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 30 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), 10 [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) |
| [Giant Pouch](https://palworld-db.com/item/AdditionalInventory_004) | Lv 57 | 4 | 50 [High Quality Wooden Board](https://palworld-db.com/item/HighGrade_Processed_Wood), 120 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber), 40 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), 20 [Carbon Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/CarbonFiber) |

Note the gap: the Small Pouch at level 27, then nothing until 43. That stretch is where most players feel the inventory squeeze hardest, and the fix in that window is not a pouch at all — it is carry weight, which comes from armour, accessories and the two permanent elixirs covered in the [carrying capacity guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-pals-for-carrying-more-items). Slots and weight are separate limits, and running out of weight with empty slots is by far the more common way to get stuck in a dungeon.

> **Tip.** None of these items are equipped, which trips up a lot of people — there is no slot to put a holster or a feed bag in. They work from your inventory, they weigh nothing, and duplicates are dead weight in the literal sense of wasted materials. The one thing to actually watch: if you dump your inventory into a base chest before a long trip, you can accidentally leave the holsters and feed bags behind and lose the slots until you pick them up again.

## The Short Answer

For food slots: buy the [Small Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier1) the moment you hit level 9 and keep buying the next tier as it unlocks, ending at the [Giant Feed Bag](https://palworld-db.com/item/AutoMealPouch_Tier5) and five slots at level 47 — 15 Technology Points total. For weapon slots: craft the [Extra Weapon Holster](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_01) at level 27 for five Ancient Technology Points, add [Extra Weapon Holster 2](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Weapon_02) at level 54 for five more, and keep both in your bag for two extra weapons. And before either of those, spend 50 Dog Coins on the [Mysterious Accessory Box](https://palworld-db.com/item/UnlockEquipmentSlot_Accessory_01) — it is the cheapest permanent upgrade of the lot and it has no level requirement at all.
