# How to Get the PAL Genetic Research Unit Standard

The PAL Genetic Research Unit Standard unlocks at player Level 50 for a single Technology Point. Here is the exact build cost, the 200 Wool hiding inside it, the Vertical Banner bundled into the same node, whether buying the cloth beats farming it, and how the lab coats' set compares to all eight faction flag sets.

The PAL Genetic Research Unit Standard is the planted flagpole that flies the lab coats' colours over your own camp, and it is a Level 50 Technology node rather than anything you loot. This guide covers the unlock and its point cost, the full build bill down to raw wool, the Vertical Banner bundled into the same node, whether buying the cloth beats farming it, and what the faction on the flag actually does to your base.

## PAL Genetic Research Unit Standard at a Glance

The Standard does not get a node of its own. It sits inside one called **PAL Genetic Research Unit Flag Set**, which hands over two pieces at once — the planted Standard and the tall [PAL Genetic Research Unit Vertical Banner](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=PAL%20Genetic%20Research%20Unit%20Vertical%20Banner). One point buys both, so there is no way to unlock half the set and no way to miss the banner. The catch is not the unlock at all, it is the material bill underneath it.

## How to Unlock the Flag Set at Level 50

Reach player Level 50, open the [Palworld technology tree](https://palworld-db.com/tech), and buy the PAL Genetic Research Unit Flag Set for **1 Technology Point**. Nothing gates it — no prerequisite node, no boss, no visit to a research facility. What makes this row awkward is everything else parked on it: seven nodes want 19 points between them, and three of those are the backbone of your electric base. [Computer](https://palworld-db.com/item/Computer) and [Plasteel](https://palworld-db.com/item/Plastic) at two points each feed almost every late structure, the Large Power Generator at four is what runs them, and Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor at five is the single most expensive thing on the shelf. The flag set is the only one-point purchase here, which makes it the one buy that pushes nothing else back.

| Level 50 technology | Points | What it gives you |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **PAL Genetic Research Unit Flag Set** | 1 | The Standard and the Vertical Banner |
| [Computer](https://palworld-db.com/item/Computer) | 2 | The crafting material behind late-game machines |
| Crude Oil Extractor | 2 | Pumps [Crude Oil](https://palworld-db.com/item/CrudeOil) from oil fields |
| [Plasteel](https://palworld-db.com/item/Plastic) | 2 | The Level 51 armour tier's base material |
| Mounted Missile Launcher | 3 | Base defence turret |
| Large Power Generator | 4 | The high-output generator for a full electric base |
| Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor | 5 | Snowfields-grade body armour |

### Build Materials and What They Cost in Raw Resources

The Standard asks for 20 [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot), 10 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) and 20 [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2). The metal is routine by Level 50 — Refined Ingot is two [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) and two [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) apiece in an [Improved Furnace](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Improved%20Furnace), which you unlocked sixteen levels earlier, so the whole flagpole is 40 Ore and 40 Coal. The cloth is the problem. Each High Quality Cloth is ten [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) plus a [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) at a [High-Quality Workbench](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=High-Quality%20Workbench), so twenty of them swallow **200 Wool and 20 Leather** for one decoration. Get a ranch stockpiling before you touch the build menu.

| Material | Qty | Where it comes from |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) | 20 | Improved Furnace, 2 [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) + 2 [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) each — [1,632 ore nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_copperore) and [824 coal nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_coal) mapped |
| [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) | 10 | Primitive Workbench, 1 [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) makes 2 |
| [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) | 20 | High-Quality Workbench, 10 [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) + 1 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) each |

### Where to Farm 200 Wool and 20 Leather

Both materials come off a [Ranch](https://palworld-db.com/ranch), which is a Level 5 node you have owned for forty levels. [Lamball](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lamball) is the wool worker to lean on — it has the widest spawn presence of the three wool Pals and it is a Grassland starter, so a pen of them can grind out 200 Wool in the background while you do anything else. [Melpaca](https://palworld-db.com/pal/melpaca) and [Cremis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cremis) produce identical wool if you already have a pair boxed. Leather is the awkward half: [Surfent](https://palworld-db.com/pal/surfent) is the only Pal that makes it on a ranch, so if you do not have one, kill for it instead — [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) drops 5 to 10 Leather every single time, which clears the 20 you need in three fights.

| Pal | Ranch output | Element | Where to find it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Lamball](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lamball) | [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) | Neutral | [351 spawn spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=SheepBall) |
| [Melpaca](https://palworld-db.com/pal/melpaca) | [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) | Neutral | [270 spawn spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=Alpaca) |
| [Cremis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cremis) | [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) | Neutral | [200 spawn spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=WoolFox) |
| [Surfent](https://palworld-db.com/pal/surfent) | [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) | Water | [301 spawn spots](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=Serpent) |
| [Mammorest](https://palworld-db.com/pal/mammorest) | Drops 5–10 Leather on defeat | Grass | [Spawn spots and alpha pin](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=GrassMammoth) |

### Buying the Cloth Instead of Farming It

You can skip the ranch entirely, and it is worth knowing which shortcut is cheaper before you start spending. A caravan trader will sell you finished [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) at 2,640 gold a roll, so twenty is **52,800 gold**. The same traders stock [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) and [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) at 200 each, and buying those raw and pressing them yourself comes to 44,000 — the shortcut that costs you a workbench queue saves 8,800 gold over the one that does not. Merchants are marked at [12 pins](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=merchant) on the map, and the full stock list is on the [Palworld merchants page](https://palworld-db.com/merchants). If gold is the thing you are short of, the [gold farming guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-farm-gold) covers faster ways to get it than selling Pals.

| Route | Gold cost | Time cost |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Buy 20 [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) outright | 52,800 | None — carry it home and build |
| Buy 200 [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) + 20 [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather), craft the cloth | 44,000 | One High-Quality Workbench queue |
| Ranch the wool, farm the leather | 0 | The slowest route, but it runs while you play |

### PAL Genetic Research Unit Vertical Banner

The banner is the other half of the node — the hanging cloth rather than the planted pole. It is the cheaper of the two by exactly ten [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) and matches the Standard everywhere else, which means 20 Ore and 20 Coal saved and the same brutal 200 Wool. Build the banner first if your furnace is behind, because the wool bill does not move either way and the banner is the piece you will end up placing several of once you start dressing walls. Doing the full set is 30 Refined Ingot, 20 Fiber and 40 High Quality Cloth — 60 Ore, 60 Coal, 10 Wood, **400 Wool** and 40 Leather in raw terms.

What the lighter bill does not buy is a quicker raise. Neither piece goes up the instant you place it the way a wall does — each is a **2,000 build workload** order that a [Handiwork](https://palworld-db.com/best-pals/handiwork) Pal has to grind through, and the two carry the identical figure despite the ten-ingot gap between them. That is twice what a [Palbox](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Palbox) asks and four times a [Primitive Workbench](https://palworld-db.com/structures?q=Primitive%20Workbench), so the pair parks 4,000 work in your camp queue ahead of whatever else you had building. Every flag and banner across all eight factions is set to the same 2,000, which means the decision of which set to fly never changes the labour, only the shopping list.

| Piece | Tech Lv | Build materials | Build workload | Raw cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | 50 | 20 [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) · 10 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) · 20 [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) | 2,000 | 40 Ore · 40 Coal · 5 Wood · 200 Wool · 20 Leather |
| | 50 | 10 [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) · 10 [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) · 20 [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2) | 2,000 | 20 Ore · 20 Coal · 5 Wood · 200 Wool · 20 Leather |

> **Tip.** This is the set where faction decoration stops being cheap. The [Eternal Pyre](https://palworld-db.com/guides/brothers-of-the-eternal-pyre-vertical-banner) and PIDF sets below it use plain [Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth) at two Wool a piece, so their flags cost 40 Wool; ours is the first to demand [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2), which is five times the wool plus leather on top. Buy the node the moment you hit 50 and let a ranch cover the difference over the next few play sessions.

## Who the PAL Genetic Research Unit Are

Flying this one is a statement, because the Genetic Research Unit are the faction that turns up to dismantle Snowfields bases. They are the coldest welcome in the game at the low end: their entry-level squad arrives at **Level 38**, where the Syndicate's first patrol is Level 10 and the fire cult's is Level 20. If you plant a base in the snow early, six Level 38 Executioners are what you get, regardless of how small your camp is. The upside is that the payouts scale with the danger — the top band hands over a guaranteed [Training Crystal](https://palworld-db.com/item/LvUP_01) and more than 106,000 XP per repelled raid. Wave-by-wave detail for every faction sits on the [Palworld base raids page](https://palworld-db.com/raids).

| Raid group | Base grade | Attackers | Waves | XP | Rewards |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| PAL Genetic Research Unit: Investigation Squad | 1–10 | 6 Executioners, Lv 38 | 1 | 120 | [Training Manual (S)](https://palworld-db.com/item/ExpBoost_01) ×10–20 · 10–20 [Dog Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin) |

| PAL Genetic Research Unit: Special Ops | 61–80 | 30 Executioners, Lv 50 | 3 | 106,470 | [Training Crystal](https://palworld-db.com/item/LvUP_01) ×1 · 200–300 [Dog Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin) |

## All Eight Faction Flag Sets Compared

Every faction flag set costs exactly one Technology Point, so the only things separating them are the level they appear at and what they are made of. The Genetic Research Unit set sits fifth, right on the line where the cloth tier changes — everything below it uses plain [Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth), everything from this set upward wants [High Quality Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth2). That single swap is the entire difference in effort between the [Free Pal Alliance set](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-free-pal-alliance-flag-set), which is twenty [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) and 40 Wool, and this one at 200 Wool and 20 Leather. If you just want a flag on a wall tonight, build a lower set; if you want the lab coats specifically, budget the ranch time. Note that the two island factions call their pieces Flag and Banner rather than Standard and Vertical Banner, but the node works identically.

| Faction set | Tech Lv | Points | Standard materials |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| | 11 | 1 | 20 [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot) · 10 Fiber · 20 [Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth) |

## Should You Buy It?

Buy the node, yes — one point on a shelf where the cheap alternative is nothing, and it comes with a second piece attached. Building it is the decision worth thinking about. Two hundred Wool per flag is real time, the flag does nothing for defence or work speed, and Level 50 is exactly when you want that wool going into [cold resistant armour](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-armor-by-tech-level) for the same Snowfields the faction patrols. The clean answer is to unlock it now, keep a [Ranch](https://palworld-db.com/ranch) of [Lamball](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lamball) running permanently, and build the pair once your cloth stock is comfortable. If you are theming a base around it, put it in the snow — the [best base locations guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-base-locations) has the Snowfields spots, and the flag reads best on the ground the Research Unit actually raids.
