The Tarantriss Hat is a Pal-shaped head piece that you cannot craft, cannot loot and cannot buy with gold — it is locked behind 80 Battle Tickets at the Arena Shop. This guide covers its exact stats, the 15% Dark damage reduction it carries, how many Arena wins 80 tickets actually costs you at each rank, and whether it beats the other hats sitting on the same shelf.

## Tarantriss Hat Stats and Effect

Mechanically this is a costume piece with a small perk stapled on. It sits in the head slot, gives 20 Defense and 60 max HP, and burns through 300 durability — numbers that put it at the very bottom of the head-armor pool, roughly a twenty-fifth of what a [Ancient Helm](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientHelmet) carries. The reason to wear it is the built-in **Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1**, which cuts incoming Dark damage by 15%. It weighs 4.0, so it is not free to carry in a stack of loot, and it sells back for only 1,000 gold.

| Stat | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Slot | Head armor |
| Rarity | Common |
| Defense | 20 |
| HP bonus | +60 |
| Durability | 300 |
| Weight | 4.0 |
| Built-in effect | Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1 — **15% less Dark damage taken** |
| Craftable | No — it has no recipe at any workbench |
| Technology level | None — it is never unlocked in the tech tree |
| Only source | Arena Shop, **80 Battle Tickets** |
| Sell price | 1,000 gold |

That 15% figure is the weakest rung of the resistance ladder — the Lv. 2, 3 and 4 versions of the same passive go up to 25%, 30% and 35% — but Lv. 1 is the only tier you will find on a head piece, so there is no better Dark hat waiting further down the tech tree. It stacks on top of whatever your [Pal passive skills](https://palworld-db.com/passives) and accessories are already doing.

## How to Get the Tarantriss Hat

There is exactly one path: win Arena matches, bank Battle Tickets, spend 80 of them at the Arena Shop. Battle Tickets have no other source in the game — no chests, no merchants, no Pal drops — so every hat in this shop is gated behind the solo ladder. The purchase is repeatable, so you can buy more than one if you want spares for the durability grind.

### Step 1: Farm Battle Tickets in the Arena

The [Arena ladder](https://palworld-db.com/arena) runs seven ranks from Bronze up to Legend. Each rank pays a fat one-time bonus the first time you clear it, then a smaller repeat payout every time after. Clearing all seven ranks once hands you **375 Battle Tickets** in total, which already covers the hat with 295 to spare — so if you are working through the ladder anyway, the Tarantriss Hat is effectively free. If you have already burned your first clears, Legend repeats are the fastest refill at 15-25 tickets a run, meaning four to six matches for a single hat. Bronze repeats pay 1 ticket, so grinding the bottom rank is 80 matches for the same hat. Do not do that.

| Arena rank | Opponent level | First-clear tickets | Repeat tickets |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bronze | 20 | 5 | 1 |
| Silver | 30 | 10 | 2 |
| Gold | 40 | 15 | 4 |
| Platinum | 50 | 20 | 6 |
| Diamond | 60 | 25 | 8 |
| Master | 65 | 100 | 10-20 |
| Legend | 80 | 200 | 15-25 |

Note the jump at Master. The first five ranks combined pay 75 tickets — five short of one hat. Master alone pays 100 and Legend pays 200, so the whole shop realistically opens up the moment you can field a level 65+ team. Diamond, Master and Legend also throw a full ten-opponent gauntlet at you instead of the single trainer the lower ranks use, so bring a healer and a stack of spheres — the repeat rewards include [Exotic Spheres](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere_Exotic) at Master and up.

### Step 2: Buy It at the Arena Shop

The Arena Shop stocks 56 different things for Battle Tickets, and the head pieces sit in a tidy price band near the bottom of the list. The Tarantriss Hat is one of six hats priced at 80 tickets; only the [Dandilord Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip057) costs more at 100. Compared with the rest of the shelf that is cheap — a single [Training Crystal](https://palworld-db.com/item/LvUP_01) runs 50, the IV fruits are 100 each, and the endgame weapon schematics climb to 1,500 tickets apiece. If you are ticket-poor, buy the schematics first and pick the hats up later; they are cosmetic-tier gear and they are not going anywhere.

## Every Hat in the Arena Shop

Seven Pal-shaped hats are sold here and six of them are statistically identical — 20 Defense, 60 HP, 300 durability, one elemental resistance each. The only one that breaks the pattern is the Dandilord Hat, which pays 20 extra tickets for 30 Defense and 80 HP. If you specifically want Dark resistance and you are choosing on numbers alone, the Dandilord Hat is the better buy despite the higher price; the Tarantriss Hat and [Splatterina Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip061) are the same item wearing a different costume, so pick between those two purely on which one you would rather look at.

| Hat | Tickets | Defense | HP | Resistance |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Tarantriss Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip062) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Dark 15% |
| [Splatterina Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip061) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Dark 15% |
| [Icelyn Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip060) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Ice 15% |
| [Ghangler Accessory](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip059) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Water 15% |
| [Shroomer Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip058) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Grass 15% |
| [Kingpaca Headband](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip051) | 80 | 20 | +60 | Neutral 15% |
| [Dandilord Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip057) | 100 | 30 | +80 | Dark 15% |

All seven share the same 300 durability, which is the real catch — that is 1/83rd of an Ancient Helm's pool. Wear one into a boss fight and it will be scrap in a handful of encounters. Buying two of your favourite is a legitimate move if you plan to actually fight in it rather than pose in it.

## Tarantriss Hat vs Real Helmets

Comparing head armor to head armor, the gap is not close. The Tarantriss Hat's 20 Defense is what you would expect from a level-2 cloth cap, and the endgame helmets are one to two orders of magnitude ahead on every line. The honest read: this is a fashion item with a small utility rider, not a piece of your combat loadout. Wear it for the 15% Dark cut when you are farming a Dark-heavy area at low risk, and swap back to a real helmet before anything can actually kill you.

| Head piece | Defense | HP | Durability |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Tarantriss Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip062) | 20 | +60 | 300 |
| [Pal Metal Helm](https://palworld-db.com/item/StealHelmet) | 150 | +350 | 5,000 |
| [Plasteel Helmet](https://palworld-db.com/item/PlasticHelmet) | 260 | +600 | 18,000 |
| [Hexolite Helmet](https://palworld-db.com/item/SFHelmet) | 350 | +800 | 20,000 |
| [Ancient Helm](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientHelmet) | 500 | +1,200 | 25,000 |

The Ancient Helm is the ceiling and it carries its own resistances — Neutral and Dragon rather than Dark — so there is no single head slot that gives you both real defense and Dark cover at the top end. That trade-off is the whole reason the hats exist. Full upgrade paths for each tier are laid out in our [best armor at every tech level guide](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-armor-by-tech-level).

## Best Dark Resistance Head Gear

Nine head pieces in the game carry Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1, and they all give the identical 15% cut — so the only thing separating them is the armor underneath. The [Depresso Helmet](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip045) wins that comparison outright with 70 Defense, 250 HP and more than double the durability of everything else on the list, and it is craftable rather than ticket-gated: 5 High Quality Cloth and 25 [Venom Gland](https://palworld-db.com/item/Venom) at the workbench. If you want Dark resistance for an actual fight, that is the pick. The Arena hats are for when you want the same perk and a Pal on your head.

| Head piece | Defense | HP | Durability | How to get it |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Depresso Helmet](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip045) | 70 | +250 | 700 | Craft — 5 High Quality Cloth, 25 Venom Gland |
| [Dandilord Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip057) | 30 | +80 | 300 | Arena Shop — 100 Battle Tickets |
| [Tarantriss Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip062) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Arena Shop — 80 Battle Tickets |
| [Splatterina Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip061) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Arena Shop — 80 Battle Tickets |
| [Cawgnito Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip027) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Craft — 1 Cloth, or 25 Dog Coin at the Medal Shop |
| [Katress Cap](https://palworld-db.com/item/Head017) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Craft — 5 Katress Hair |
| [Killamari Cap](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip026) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Craft — 5 Killamari Tentacle |
| [Leezpunk Hood](https://palworld-db.com/item/HeadEquip025) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Craft — 5 Leezpunk Crest |
| [Witch Hat](https://palworld-db.com/item/Head004) | 20 | +60 | 300 | Craft — 10 Cloth, 3 Ingot |

> **Tip.** Do not buy hats before schematics. The same Arena Shop sells [Charge Rifle Schematic 4](https://palworld-db.com/item/Blueprint_ChargeLaserRifle_5) and its Energy Shotgun and Overheat Rifle equivalents at 1,500 tickets each — those change how hard you hit for the rest of the game. Clearing every rank once only nets 375 tickets, so treat the 80-ticket hats as something you pick up on repeat runs, not with your first clears.

## Tarantriss: The Pal Behind the Hat

[Tarantriss](https://palworld-db.com/pal/tarantriss) is Paldex #71, a small Dark-element spider with a flat 100 across every base stat except HP, which sits slightly higher at 110. It is a genuinely useful base worker — Handiwork 3 and Gathering 3 put it in the upper band for both jobs — and it doubles as an early mount once you unlock the Tarantriss Saddle at technology level 20. Its partner skill, Tarantriss' Web, hands you a movement speed boost that scales from 10% up to 20% as the Pal levels.

| Tarantriss | Detail |
| --- | --- |
| Paldex number | #71 |
| Element | Dark |
| Size | Small |
| Base HP / Attack / Defense | 110 / 100 / 100 |
| Work suitability | Handiwork 3, Gathering 3, Medicine Production 2, Transporting 2 |
| Partner skill | Tarantriss' Web — +10% to +20% Move Speed by level |
| Mount | Yes — Tarantriss Saddle, technology level 20 |
| Drops | [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) ×2-5 (100%), [Venom Gland](https://palworld-db.com/item/Venom) ×2-5 (100%) |
| Alpha version | Level 35 |

Those guaranteed drops are worth knowing: Venom Gland is exactly what the Depresso Helmet recipe wants 25 of, and Tarantriss drops 2-5 of them on every catch or kill at a 100% rate. Farm the spider, craft the better Dark helmet, then buy the hat for the look.

### Where to Find Tarantriss

There are 46 spawn points for Tarantriss on the map and they are heavily clustered — more than half of them sit inside a single dungeon. It appears both day and night, so there is no timing to plan around. Open the [Tarantriss spawn map](https://palworld-db.com/map?pal=PurpleSpider) to see every pin, including the level 35 alpha.

| Area | Spawn points | Share of all spawns |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sealed Realm of the Mystic | 26 | 56.5% |
| Gobfin's Turf | 6 | 13.0% |
| Mossanda Forest | 4 | 8.7% |

The Sealed Realm of the Mystic is the obvious farm — 26 of the 46 pins in one enclosed space means you are never hunting for the next one. If you would rather not run a sealed realm, Gobfin's Turf and Mossanda Forest are open-world alternatives, just at a fifth of the density.
