# Weight Explained: Carrying Capacity and Item Weights

How the Weight stat works in Palworld — the 500 to 3,000 range from status points, what happens when you go overweight, the exact weight of every material you haul, and the eight Pals whose partner skills cut item weight outright.

Weight is the stat that decides how much you can hold before the game starts punishing you for it, and it is the one that ends more play sessions than any other. This guide covers the exact carrying capacity numbers, what the overweight penalty actually does, how much every material in the game weighs, and the eight Pals whose partner skills cut item weight at the source.

## What the Weight Stat Does

Every item in your inventory has a weight value attached to it, and the sum of those values is measured against a single number: your Max Carrying Capacity. Stay under it and nothing happens. Go over it and you keep picking things up — the game does not block you — but you move like you are wading through mud until you drop something. The stat starts at 500 on a fresh character and climbs 50 per status point, which puts the ceiling from levelling alone at 3,000. That is not the real ceiling though, because permanent-boost consumables, gear and Pal partner skills all stack on top of it.

| Weight at a glance | The number |
| --- | --- |
| What it controls | How much total item weight your inventory holds before you slow down |
| Starting value | **500** at level 1, identical for every character |
| Gain per status point | **+50** — tied with Work Speed for the second-biggest per-point jump of the five stats |
| Ceiling from levelling | **3,000** at rank 50, which costs 50 of your 79 lifetime points |
| Can you go past 3,000? | Yes — [Burden Elixir](https://palworld-db.com/item/Elixir_weight_02), armor, accessories and partner skills all add on top |
| What it does *not* control | Pal [Transporting](https://palworld-db.com/best-pals/transporting) — that is a completely separate work suitability |

Weight is the stat worth front-loading in the first twenty levels, for one reason: it is the only one whose failure state is *walking home slowly*. A short Health bar kills you and you respawn in ten seconds; a full inventory 400 metres from a base with no [Mining Cart](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-get-mining-cart) costs you five real minutes. The [full status point priority order](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-stats-to-level-up) ranks it first for exactly that.

## Overweight Penalties: What Actually Happens

The penalty is not a cliff, it is a slope. The weight readout only appears on your HUD once you cross half your capacity, which is the game's way of telling you to start paying attention. Past 100% your movement speed drops, and it keeps dropping the further over you go until the slowdown bottoms out at roughly 50 weight past your limit — after that you are as slow as you are going to get, so there is no extra cost to hauling 200 over instead of 60 over. You can still jump while loaded up to about a quarter over the line, which matters more than it sounds when the way home involves a ledge.

| Where you are | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| Under 50% of capacity | Nothing. The weight readout is not even shown on the HUD |
| 50% to 100% | The weight counter appears so you can watch it. No penalty yet |
| Over 100% | Movement speed starts dropping, and gets worse the further over you go |
| Roughly **50 over** the limit | The slowdown hits its worst. Going further over costs you nothing extra |
| Up to about **1.25×** the limit | You can still jump. Past that you are grounded until you drop something |
| Any weight at all | Pickup never stops — the game will happily let you bury yourself |

There is a settings toggle most players never find that fixes the worst version of this: **"Do not automatically pick up items over the weight limit"**. Turn it on and you stop auto-vacuuming drops mid-fight and suddenly discovering you cannot dodge. Server and world settings also expose an **Item Weight Rate** multiplier that scales every weight value in this guide at once — if you run your own world and the hauling grind is not the part of Palworld you are here for, that slider is the honest fix rather than the [carry weight glitch](https://palworld-db.com/guides/carry-weight-glitch).

## How Much Everything Weighs

This is the half of the stat nobody looks up, and it is the half you can actually plan around. Weights range from 10 a unit down to a flat zero, and the spread is not intuitive — [Iron Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronOre) weighs fifty times what a [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) does and a hundred times what a [Pal Sphere](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere) does. The column that matters is the last one: multiply by the stack you actually carry. A hundred Iron Ore is 1,000 weight, a third of a fully levelled character's entire budget, from one material.

| Material | Weight each | A stack of 100 | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Iron Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronOre) | **10** | 1,000 | The heaviest stackable material in the game, tied with AI Core |
| [AI Core](https://palworld-db.com/item/AIcore) | **10** | 1,000 | Endgame crafting material — you rarely hold many, thankfully |
| [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) | 8 | 800 | The one you mine by the hundred. [1,632 ore nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_copperore) on the map |
| [Mythical Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood_WorldTree) | 8 | 800 | Nearly three times the weight of ordinary Wood |
| [Thermal Core](https://palworld-db.com/item/Thermal_Core) | 8 | 800 | Processing material, and heavy for one |
| [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) | 5 | 500 | [824 coal nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_coal), and you need it in bulk for Refined Ingots |
| [Pure Quartz](https://palworld-db.com/item/Quartz) | 5 | 500 | [607 nodes](https://palworld-db.com/map?layers=res_purequartz) — plan the trip home before you start swinging |
| [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot) | 5 | 500 | [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) and [Pal Metal Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/StealIngot) weigh the same 5 |
| [Cement](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cement) | 5 | 500 | Building material, so you carry it in construction-sized amounts |
| [Diamond](https://palworld-db.com/item/Diamond) | 5 | 500 | Gems are heavy for their value — Sapphire and Emerald match it |
| [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone) | 3 | 300 | [Wood](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wood) and [Sulfur](https://palworld-db.com/item/Sulfur) are also 3 |
| [Coralum Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/ManganeseOre) | 3 | 300 | Notably lighter than ordinary Ore, and so is [Coralum Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/ManganeseIngot) |
| [Leather](https://palworld-db.com/item/Leather) | 2 | 200 | [Charcoal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Charcoal) matches it |
| [Bone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Bone) | 1 | 100 | [Horn](https://palworld-db.com/item/Horn), [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool), [Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth), [Plasteel](https://palworld-db.com/item/Plastic) and [Hexolite](https://palworld-db.com/item/StainlessSteel) are all 1 |
| [Fiber](https://palworld-db.com/item/Fiber) | 0.5 | 50 | [Crude Oil](https://palworld-db.com/item/CrudeOil), [Polymer](https://palworld-db.com/item/Polymer) and [Electric Organ](https://palworld-db.com/item/ElectricOrgan) match it |
| [Wheat](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wheat) | 0.2 | 20 | [Honey](https://palworld-db.com/item/Honey), [Gunpowder](https://palworld-db.com/item/Gunpowder) and [Aquatic Pal Fluids](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalFluid) are also 0.2 |
| [Pal Sphere](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere) | 0.1 | 10 | Every sphere tier weighs 0.1, up to the [Ultra Sphere](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere_Master) |
| [Gold Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/Money) | **0** | 0 | Money is weightless at any amount |

Two takeaways worth internalising. First, spheres are free — a hundred of anything from a basic [Pal Sphere](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere) to a [Legendary Sphere](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalSphere_Legend) costs you 10 weight total, so there is no reason to leave the base short on catching gear. Second, the top of this table is entirely mining output, which is why an ore run is the trip that gets you stuck and a berry run never does.

### Smelt Before You Carry

The single best weight trick in the game is not a stat or a Pal, it is a furnace at your mining base. Two [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) weigh 16 and smelt into one [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot) that weighs 5 — the same materials, 69% lighter to carry. [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) is even better, because the 2 Ore and 2 Coal that go into it weigh 26 between them and come out as a single 5-weight bar. If your mining outpost has a furnace and a Kindling Pal on it, you walk home with a fraction of the load, and the Pals do the standing around.

| What you haul | Weight | Same materials as | Weight | Saved |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 100 [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) | 800 | 50 [Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperIngot) | **250** | 69% |
| 100 [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) + 100 [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) | 1,300 | 50 [Refined Ingot](https://palworld-db.com/item/IronIngot) | **250** | 81% |
| 300 [Wheat](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wheat) | 60 | 100 [Flour](https://palworld-db.com/item/Flour) | **10** | 83% |
| 100 [Wool](https://palworld-db.com/item/Wool) | 100 | 50 [Cloth](https://palworld-db.com/item/Cloth) | **50** | 50% |

The same logic applies to food. Raw meat is where the weight is — [Mammorest Meat](https://palworld-db.com/item/Meat_GrassMammoth) is 5 a piece, so a good hunt fills you up fast, and cooked dishes are usually no lighter. Berries at 0.2 and [Honey](https://palworld-db.com/item/Honey) at 0.2 are the ingredients you can hoard freely.

### The Things That Weigh Nothing

Over a thousand items in the game have a weight of exactly zero, and knowing which ones changes how you pack. Every schematic is weightless, so there is no cost to carrying your entire collection of [legendary schematics](https://palworld-db.com/guides/legendary-weapon-schematic-locations) on you. So is every piece of Pal gear — saddles, harnesses and glider attachments cost you nothing to keep in the bag. Boss bounty tokens, [all of them](https://palworld-db.com/guides/all-pal-bounty-tokens), are free too, which is why token farming never runs into the weight wall that ore farming does.

| Category | Weight | What it means for you |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Schematics and blueprints | **0** | Carry every one you own, forever, at no cost |
| Pal gear — saddles, harnesses, gliders | **0** | No reason to store them; keep the whole set on you |
| [Gold Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/Money) and [Dog Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin) | **0** | Currency is free at any quantity |
| Boss bounty tokens | **0** | Farm them in bulk without a single trip home |
| [Predator Core](https://palworld-db.com/item/PredatorCrystal) | **0** | The one crafting material with no weight at all |
| Ammo | **0.01 – 0.025** | 999 [Assault Rifle Ammo](https://palworld-db.com/item/AssaultRifleBullet) is about 10 weight — never the problem |

## Weapons, Armor and Eggs Are the Hidden Load

Loot is what people blame, but a loadout eats a serious chunk of the budget before you pick anything up. A [Gatling Gun](https://palworld-db.com/item/GatlingGun_5) is 50 on its own — the same as a whole Huge egg — and a body armor is 35 to 40 depending on the line. Run a heavy weapon, a launcher, a pickaxe and an armor set and you have spent 140 or so of your capacity on gear you have not fired yet. This is why the class comparison matters: 50 for a Gatling Gun is only meaningful against other weapons, not against a stack of ore.

| Gear | Weight | Class | Worth knowing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Gatling Gun](https://palworld-db.com/item/GatlingGun_5) | **50** | Gatling | The heaviest usable weapon in the game, tied with [Laser Gatling Gun](https://palworld-db.com/item/LaserGatlingGun_5) |
| [Plasma Cannon](https://palworld-db.com/item/EnergyRocketLauncher_5) | **50** | Launcher | The heaviest launcher — every other one is 30 |
| [Plasma Multicutter](https://palworld-db.com/item/LaserMiningTool) | 50 | Melee tool | Heaviest melee item you would actually equip |
| [Flame Thrower](https://palworld-db.com/item/FlameThrower) | 45 | Flamethrower | Second-heaviest weapon overall |
| [Rocket Launcher](https://palworld-db.com/item/Launcher_Default_5) | 30 | Launcher | The standard launcher weight, shared across the whole class |
| [Advanced Bow](https://palworld-db.com/item/SFBow_5) | 25 | Bow | Same 25 as [Pal Metal Pickaxe](https://palworld-db.com/item/Pickaxe_Steal) and [Metal Detector](https://palworld-db.com/item/MetalDetector) |
| [Ancient Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientArmor_5) | 40 | Body armor | The top armor lines all sit at 40 |
| [Plasteel Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/PlasticArmor_5) | 35 | Body armor | Mid-tier lines are 35, including the Refined Metal line |
| [Huge Common Egg](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalEgg_Normal_05) | **50** | Egg | Every Huge egg is 50 — two of them is a sixth of a maxed inventory |
| [Large Common Egg](https://palworld-db.com/item/PalEgg_Normal_03) | 25 | Egg | Ordinary Common Eggs are 10 |

Egg runs deserve a specific warning. Huge eggs weigh 50 each and Large eggs 25, so clearing a nest circuit for [Huge egg Pals](https://palworld-db.com/guides/huge-egg-pals) is one of the few activities that can fill a fully levelled character with under sixty items. Bring a hauler, or plan a shorter loop with a [nearby incubator base](https://palworld-db.com/guides/how-to-hatch-eggs-fast) at the end of it.

> **Tip.** **"Lightweight" armor is not lighter.** [Lightweight Plasteel Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/PlasticArmorWeight) weighs the same 35 as ordinary [Plasteel Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/PlasticArmor), and [Lightweight Hexolite Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/SFArmorWeight) weighs the same 40 as the standard Hexolite line. The name refers to the Max Carrying Capacity bonus the piece grants you, not to the piece weighing less — you are trading Defense for capacity, not for a lighter chest slot.

## Item Weight Reduction: Cut the Weight Instead of Raising the Cap

Eight Pals carry a partner skill that shrinks item weight directly, and this is the lever that beats every capacity bonus on the ore-run problem. [Fuddler](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fuddler) and [Turtacle](https://palworld-db.com/pal/turtacle) both reach **100% reduction at five stars**, which makes their target material weigh literally nothing — a Turtacle in your party turns 500 Ore from 4,000 weight into zero. The critical rule is in the tooltip: **these do not stack**. Two weight-reduction Pals in the party is one wasted slot, so pick the one that matches what you are farming today.

| Pal | Partner skill | What it lightens | 1★ | 5★ |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Turtacle](https://palworld-db.com/pal/turtacle) | Spikey Carrier | [Ore](https://palworld-db.com/item/CopperOre) | 80% | **100%** |
| [Fuddler](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fuddler) | Mining Assistance | [Stone](https://palworld-db.com/item/Stone) | 80% | **100%** |
| [Turtacle Terra](https://palworld-db.com/pal/turtacle-terra) | Shiny Hauler | [Sulfur](https://palworld-db.com/item/Sulfur) and [Coal](https://palworld-db.com/item/Coal) | 80% | **100%** |
| [Finsider Ignis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/finsider-ignis) | Ember Chamber | All weapons in your inventory | 60% | **100%** |
| [Reptyro Cryst](https://palworld-db.com/pal/reptyro-cryst) | Ice-Loving Beast | All types of ore | 35% | 65% |
| [Reptyro](https://palworld-db.com/pal/reptyro) | Ore-Loving Beast | All types of ore | 30% | 60% |
| [Gumoss](https://palworld-db.com/pal/gumoss) | Logging Assistance | All types of wood | 40% | 60% |
| [Munchill](https://palworld-db.com/pal/munchill) | Icy Maw | Ingredients and food | 30% | 60% |

Read that table by trip, not by tier. [Reptyro](https://palworld-db.com/pal/reptyro) tops out at 60% but covers **all types of ore**, which means Iron Ore and Coralum Ore as well as the basic stuff — narrower skills hit harder on one material and do nothing for the rest. [Fuddler](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fuddler) is the standout early pickup: it is a common, low-rarity Pal you can catch and star up long before the endgame, and Stone is the material a new base consumes by the thousand. [Finsider Ignis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/finsider-ignis) is the odd one out and quietly excellent for combat trips, since zeroing your weapon weight at five stars frees 100+ capacity on a heavy loadout before you pick up a single drop.

## Every Way to Raise the Number

Four levers raise your capacity, and they all stack with each other. Status points are the biggest single source but the most expensive in opportunity cost. The two permanent-boost consumables are the only way past the rank 50 wall, and the [Burden Elixir](https://palworld-db.com/item/Elixir_weight_02) is buyable outright from the Medal Shop for 200 Dog Coins — the cheapest permanent stat in the game. Partner skills are where the free numbers live: [Lunaris](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lunaris) gives **+300 at one star and +600 at five**, which is twelve status points' worth for a party slot.

| Source | What it adds | Ceiling | Cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Status points | **+50** per point | 3,000 at rank 50 | 50 of the 79 points you earn by level 80 |
| [Burden Elixir](https://palworld-db.com/item/Elixir_weight_02) | +2 status points, permanently | Respects the rank 50 cap | 200 [Dog Coin](https://palworld-db.com/item/DogCoin), or 6 [Carrying Lotus (L)](https://palworld-db.com/item/Lotus_weight_02) + 2 [Predator Core](https://palworld-db.com/item/PredatorCrystal) |
| [Burden Remedy](https://palworld-db.com/item/Elixir_weight_01) | +1 status point, permanently | Same cap | 4 [Carrying Lotus (S)](https://palworld-db.com/item/Lotus_weight_01) + 1 Predator Core, or supply crates |
| [Lunaris](https://palworld-db.com/pal/lunaris) — Antigravity | **+300 → +600** | The biggest carry buff in the game | One party slot, plus condensing for stars |
| [Cattiva](https://palworld-db.com/pal/cattiva) — Cat Helper | +100 → +200 | Small but immediate | Catchable in the first ten minutes of a save |
| Max Carrying Capacity passive | +50 / +150 / +200 by level | Lv. 3 is +200 | A passive skill roll on any Pal in your party |
| Gear | Up to **+300** per piece | Three items carry the top tier | [Wandering Merchant Charm](https://palworld-db.com/item/Accessory_HCMW_1), [Islander's Tool Belt](https://palworld-db.com/item/Accessory_WKMC_1), [Lightweight Ancient Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientArmorWeight) |
| Early gear | +50 | Head slot | [Feathered Hair Band](https://palworld-db.com/item/FurHelmet) at 2 tech points — the first carry bonus you can craft |

The stacking order matters when you are deciding what to chase. Two of the three +300 pieces are accessories, so you can wear both and still run whatever body armor your build wants — that is +600 from gear alone without touching the [Lightweight Ancient Armor](https://palworld-db.com/item/AncientArmorWeight). Add Lunaris at five stars and you are 1,200 over your levelled cap before a single status point goes in. The [full carry weight gear and Pal breakdown](https://palworld-db.com/guides/best-pals-for-carrying-more-items) has every recipe and drop source for the pieces above.

## Weight Is Not Transporting

These get confused constantly and they share nothing. Weight is a player stat and only ever affects your own inventory. Transporting is a Pal work suitability that decides how much a base worker moves per trip when it hauls finished goods into your chests — no amount of Transporting rank on any Pal raises your personal limit, and no Burden Elixir makes your base run faster. **140 Pals have Transporting and exactly two reach rank 7**, [Knocklem](https://palworld-db.com/pal/knocklem) and [Knocklem Ignis](https://palworld-db.com/pal/knocklem-ignis). If your problem is chests filling up slowly, that is the ladder to climb; if your problem is walking home at half speed, everything above this section is.

## The Short Answer

Put your first twenty status points into Weight, craft a [Feathered Hair Band](https://palworld-db.com/item/FurHelmet) on day one, and keep a [Fuddler](https://palworld-db.com/pal/fuddler) or [Turtacle](https://palworld-db.com/pal/turtacle) in the party whenever you are mining — a five-star one makes the heaviest material in the game weigh nothing at all. Build a furnace at your mining outpost so you carry ingots home instead of ore, buy every [Burden Elixir](https://palworld-db.com/item/Elixir_weight_02) the Medal Shop will sell you, and turn on the setting that stops auto-pickup at the weight limit. Do those five things and you will stop thinking about this stat entirely.
