## Notes we already publish

- (use) The 65 attack and 150 durability are not a poison tax or a poison bonus — they are the standard single-shot bow line. The Old Bow ([[item:WeakerBow]]) and the Fire Bow ([[item:Bow_Fire]]) carry the identical 65 attack, 150 durability and 6 weight. Swapping to this bow costs you nothing in raw damage and gains you nothing either; every point of value is in the poison the arrow leaves behind and what that does to a capture. For comparison the Three Shot Bow ([[item:Bow_Triple]]) lists only 40 attack, trading per-arrow damage for volume and 250 durability.
- (use) The bow is a one-time cost and the ammo is the real one. A Poison Arrow ([[item:Arrow_Poison]]) is Wood x2, Stone x2 and Venom Gland x1 at a Primitive Workbench — one gland per arrow, and the bow fires one arrow per shot. Your gland stock is your effective magazine. Building the bow itself only spends 2 glands, so anyone who can afford to craft it can afford it; the question is whether you can feed it. Arrows weigh 0.025 each, so 200 of them is 5 weight — carry capacity is never the limit, gland supply is.
- (location) Venom Gland ([[item:Venom]]) is a guaranteed drop, never a roll, from every Pal that carries it — the question is only how many per kill. Menasting ([[pal:DarkScorpion]]) is the best farm in the game at 5-10 a body, with Shroomer Noct ([[pal:MushroomDragon_Dark]]) at 4-8 and Prixter ([[pal:ScorpionMan]]) at 4-5 behind it. Early on, before any of those are reachable, Depresso ([[pal:NegativeKoala]]) at 2-3 and Killamari ([[pal:NegativeOctopus]]) at 2-4 will keep a quiver stocked. Tarantriss ([[pal:PurpleSpider]]) sits in the middle at 2-5.
- (strategy) Do not buy your way through this weapon. Village, Caravan and Dungeon shops all sell Venom Gland at 300 Gold apiece, and since one gland is one arrow, a purchased quiver runs 300 Gold per shot fired. Thirty arrows off the shelf is 9,000 Gold. A single Menasting kill hands you up to ten for free. Shop glands are an emergency top-up before a capture run, not a supply line.
- (strategy) The upgrade keeps your stockpile. The Poison Arrow Crossbow ([[item:BowGun_Poison]]) chambers the exact same Poison Arrow, so every gland you banked for the bow transfers with no rework — but it hits for 280 instead of 65 and holds 300 durability instead of 150. The cost is weight: 13 against this bow's 6. Once the crossbow is available there is no reason to keep firing the bow, and no reason to have held back on glands in the meantime.
