# Hyper Shield

Odd Paldium-based tech that mends itself after going a while without being struck. Repeated testing pushed it to the highest quality.

## Notes we already publish

- (use) This is the last shield you can build out of ordinary mining. The recipe is bulk Paldium, 30 Ingot and 20 Ancient Civilization Parts — no crafted intermediates at all. Every rung above it changes that: Ultra Shield ([[item:Shield_05]]) adds 30 Ancient Civilization Cores ([[item:AncientParts2]]) plus Plasteel and Bio Batteries, Advanced Shield ([[item:Shield_SF]]) wants Hexolite and a Thermal Core on top of the same 30 Cores, and Ancient Shield ([[item:Shield_07]]) asks for Soralite Ingots and an AI Core. So the 20 Ancient Civilization Parts here are the whole price of admission, and a second Hyper Shield as a spare costs you nothing you cannot mine.
- (use) Budget bench time, not just materials. The build is 150,000 work — nearly four times the 40,000 that Giga Shield ([[item:Shield_03]]) takes, and no shield in the game can be made from the handcraft menu, so it has to sit on a production line the whole time. Put it on your fastest line with your best Handiwork Pals before you log off rather than starting it when you need the shield. In exchange it is still the cheap end of the curve: Ultra Shield is 600,000 work and Ancient Shield is 10,000,000.
- (strategy) You will wear this longer than any shield before it. Giga Shield unlocks at 29 and Hyper at 43, but the next one is not until 55 — a twelve-level gap covering the whole back half of the tech tree, including the point where towers and raids start hitting for real. That makes the 3 technology points and the 20 Ancient Civilization Parts an easy yes even if you are hoarding parts for a saddle or a late gun.
- (trivia) Every shield in the game weighs exactly 5, from Common through Ancient. Upgrading a shield never costs you carry capacity, so there is no reason to keep an older one equipped once a better one is built — only a reason to keep it in a box as a backup while the new one is being repaired.
