- (use) Celestial Darkness is two boosts wearing one name, and no other partner skill in the game lifts more than a single element. With the saddle on and Selyne under you, its Neutral attacks and its Dark attacks each land 15% harder at condense rank 1, then 17, 20, 24 and 30% at rank 5. Two conditions sit underneath that the tooltip never spells out. The bonus belongs to Selyne, not to you — the game does have partner skills that pour an element into the rider's own weapon, and this is not one of them, so what grows is the damage Selyne itself puts out while you are in the saddle. And riding is the only state that counts: Selyne deployed at your side, sitting in the party or working a base all read as off, which makes this the rare partner skill you can switch off by dismounting mid-fight. The restriction buys unusually wide coverage — 8 of Selyne's 9 level-up moves are Neutral or Dark, Comet Strike being the lone exception, so a fully condensed one has almost its entire native kit inside the buff.
- (strategy) That coverage is also the reason to leave the egg-move pool alone. Selyne can inherit 32 moves and only five of them fall inside the boost — Dark Laser and Pal Blast at 450 power, Apocalypse at 400, Nightmare Ball at 300 and Power Bomb at 120. Everything that looks worth breeding for sits outside it: Diamond Rain, Dragon Meteor and Thunderstorm all carry 600 power and take nothing from the skill at all. The comparison never gets close either way, because Holy Burst at level 22 and Seigetsu Flash at 70 are 700 power on their own and both are Neutral, so the strongest thing you can teach this Pal is already the thing the saddle amplifies. Spend a slot on an off-element import only when you need an answer Neutral and Dark cannot give you, never for the damage figure.
- (strategy) Shadowbeak runs the identical Dark ladder — the same 15 climbing to 30 over the same five ranks — and its saddle opens six technology levels sooner, at 47, so for a stretch the two do the same job. At 53 the argument ends: Selyne sprints 1600 against Shadowbeak's 1200 and carries the Neutral half at no extra cost. It is also the quickest pair of wings the tree offers at that point by a wide margin, with Ragnahawk's 1300 the nearest rival and nothing faster until Frostallion at 62. What keeps it flying after the late unlocks arrive is the stamina bar: 300, beaten only by the two Suzaku forms among flyers and nearly triple Jetragon's 110. Jetragon covers ground twice as fast and lands twice as often — for a long crossing where you would rather not touch down, this is still the better bird.
- (strategy) The Meteorite Fragments are the only part of the bill worth planning around. Nothing you mine, farm, buy or open produces them — three Pals drop them and that is the whole supply — and only three pieces of Pal gear in the game ask for them, this saddle among them. The good news is that every kill pays out: Xenovader gives 3 to 10, Xenogard 5 to 12 and Xenolord 7 to 15, all guaranteed, so one Xenovader usually covers the ten needed here and a single Xenolord always does. The other cost is bench time. At 100,000 work this is the 26th heaviest of the game's 139 pieces of Pal gear, against a median of 30,000 — start it before you head out hunting, not after you get back.
