- (use) The saddle sits on the Technology tree at level 36 and costs 2 technology points — the cheapest half of the bill, since the 15 Refined Ingot and 30 Paldium Fragment are what you will actually spend the evening on. Everything below is gated behind spending those 2 points: without the saddle in your inventory Moldron cannot be ridden and its partner skill does not fire at all, so the item is the switch for both halves of the Pal, not just the mount.
- (use) Magma Overload buffs Moldron itself, not you and not the party. It raises Moldron's own Ranged Attack by 4% for each OTHER Fire or Ground Pal you have in your team — Moldron never counts itself, and a five-slot team leaves room for four qualifying partners. The rate climbs with Moldron's condense rank: 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8% per Pal from base to five stars, so a fully condensed Moldron beside four Fire or Ground teammates is running +32% Ranged Attack, while an uncondensed one in a mixed team is running nothing.
- (strategy) Ranged Attack is the right stat to be boosting on this particular Pal. Seven of Moldron's eight learnable moves are Shot — Spirit Fire, Ignis Breath, Flame Wall, Rockburst, Volcanic Rain, Magma Spit and Magma Laser — and only Rocky Impact at level 40 is melee, so the buff applies to essentially everything it throws. Moldron's base Ranged Attack of 125 is already 25 points above its melee, which is the same conclusion the kit points at: build the team around the skill rather than treating it as a rider's bonus. Two Moldron in one team is legal and each counts as a Fire or Ground partner for the other.
- (use) The skill only pays while Moldron is the Pal deployed with you. Sent to a base as a Kindling or Mining worker, or left sitting in the reserve box, Magma Overload contributes nothing — which matters here because Moldron carries rank 5 in both Kindling and Mining and is genuinely worth stationing. You cannot have the work output and the damage buff from the same Moldron, so a serious Fire team wants a second one caught or bred for base duty.
- (use) It is built on the Pal Gear Workbench, which you will have owned since the early game — technology 6, 2 points, and there is no upgraded tier of it anywhere, so a level 36 saddle comes off the same starter bench as a level 5 one. The craft carries 40,000 work, well above the 30,000 typical of Pal gear, and the bench accepts any Pal with Handiwork rank 1 or better. Assign your best Handiwork Pals before you queue it rather than after.
