- (location) Trees are the bulk supply, and the axe in your hand is what gates them. Stone Axe unlocks at technology level 1 for 5 [[item:Stone|Stone]] + 5 Wood, Metal Axe at 11 for 20 Wood + 15 Stone + 15 [[item:CopperIngot|Ingot]], and Refined Metal Axe at 34 for 30 Stone + 10 [[item:IronIngot|Refined Ingot]] + 4 [[item:Processed_Wood|Wooden Board]]. Each rung is one technology point, so there is no reason to still be swinging a stone head at level 11.
- (location) The Logging Site is the point where you stop chopping. It unlocks at level 7 for 2 technology points and costs 50 Wood + 20 Stone + 10 [[item:Pal_crystal_S|Paldium Fragment]] — cheap enough that your first base should have one before you build anything decorative. Park a Pal with Lumbering on it and the wood arrives while you are elsewhere.
- (location) Logging Site II is an ancient-technology unlock at level 43: 3 ancient technology points plus 100 [[item:Wood_Fine|Hardwood]], 50 Stone, 20 Paldium Fragment and 5 [[item:PalCrystal_Ex|Ancient Civilization Parts]]. Since it is paid for in boss currency and hardwood, treat it as a late upgrade rather than a second early base project.
- (strategy) Lumbering rank decides throughput at the site, and the top of the list is narrow. [[pal:WhiteDeer_Dark|Celesdir Noct]] is the only Lumbering 8 in the game; [[pal:LegendDeer|Hartalis]] and [[pal:WhiteDeer|Celesdir]] sit at 7; [[pal:WhiteShieldDragon|Silvegis]], [[pal:SaintCentaur|Paladius]], [[pal:BlackCentaur|Necromus]], [[pal:WhiteTiger_Ground|Cryolinx Terra]] and [[pal:SnowTigerBeastman|Bastigor]] all reach 6. Before any of those are catchable, [[pal:Yeti|Wumpo]], [[pal:Yeti_Grass|Wumpo Botan]], [[pal:GrassMammoth_Ice|Mammorest Cryst]] and [[pal:GrassGolem|Dualith]] hold Lumbering 5 and are the realistic mid-game staff.
- (use) The Crusher, level 8 for 2 technology points and the same 50 Wood + 20 Stone + 10 Paldium Fragment as the Logging Site, converts Wood into [[item:Fiber|Fiber]]. Building the pair together means a fibre supply that refills itself, instead of running laps around the bushes near your base every time a saddle recipe asks for it.
