# Pengullet

Nearly all its feathers are gone; the wish to fly stayed exactly as strong. It still tries any method that might get it off the ground.

## Notes we already publish

- (catch) Which shadow you cast at decides what passive the Pengullet comes ashore with. The small shadow is the plain catch and rolls its passives like any other Pal. The medium shadow is the alpha and lands with Whopper already fixed on it — +5% Water damage, +5% Ice damage, +5% defense. The large shadow always carries Lunker, the same three lines at +20% each, and no capture or hatch rolls that passive on its own, so the rod is the only door it comes through.
- (catch) Lunker is worth more on this Pal than on almost any other it can appear on. It boosts Water and Ice damage together, and only five of the thirty-nine Pals that have a large shadow are Water and Ice at once — Pengullet, Penking, Polapup, Munchill and Whalaska. On everything else in that group one of the two damage lines is dead weight; here both of them feed its whole move list, which is Water and Ice from Ice Missile at level 1 to Geyser Gush at 70, and the third line is 20% defense on a Pal that has only 70 of it.
- (catch) The odds behind that are steep. On an ordinary spot the plain Pengullet is about 9.5% of what surfaces, the alpha 0.5%, and the large shadow 0.05%. The rarer spot type — the one that refills on an hour timer rather than fifteen minutes — rewrites the table: the alpha runs near 11% there and the large shadow 0.14%, while the water around the Rayne Syndicate Oil Rig gives the large shadow its best chance anywhere at 0.79%. Difficulty climbs with size in the same way, from 18 on the early beach shadow to 28 for the alpha and 76 or higher for the large one wherever it turns up.
- (catch) Pengullet is a salt-water catch only — it sits in the ocean tables and one shallow island table, and in none of the river tables, so a lakeside cast will never produce one. The level comes from the water rather than from luck: the shallow island table runs 1–10, the early ocean 9–16, the two later ocean bands 14–18 and 18–22, and the oil-rig water 20–30, which is the only place a fished Pengullet clears level 22. That water also charges two points of rod durability a catch against one everywhere else, so the 480-durability rod unlocked at level 45 covers 480 beach catches but only 240 at the rig.
