# Skutlass Ignis

A strange one: it splits its body apart mid-fight and cuts with its exposed bones, at the cost of perishing if it takes too long to reassemble. Rumor, never verified, says aged individuals drag out the separation on purpose because the survival instinct it sets off prolongs their lives.

## Notes we already publish

- (use) Seared Fish Fillet is not a buff — it hands you a weapon. Trigger it and Skutlass Ignis folds itself into a katana in your hands, and the blade carries its own Ranged Attack figure rather than scaling off your gear: 2900 at partner skill level 1, then 3000, 3300, 3700 and 4200 once the Pal is condensed to level 5. The plain Skutlass does the same trick with a weaker edge at every rung — 2600 / 2700 / 3000 / 3400 / 3900 — so the Ignis form is a flat 300 points sharper whichever rank you have reached, which is the whole argument for hunting the variant instead of the original. Neither one takes a saddle, so this is the only combat role either has.
- (use) The form is on a clock. Each activation runs ten seconds and needs another ten before you can call the blade back out, and the game warns outright that Skutlass Ignis is knocked out if it is left transformed rather than reverting. Treat it as a burst window you open on a boss's stagger, not a weapon you walk around holding — and keep a real melee weapon on the wheel for the downtime, because for half of every cycle you have no katana at all.
- (strategy) Do not field it alongside Bushi or Bushi Noct. Iaigiri, the sword-draw strike those two launch from their own partner skill, is called out by name in the Seared Fish Fillet rules as a second way to incapacitate the Pal: use it while Skutlass Ignis is your katana and the fish goes down with it. Two partner skills that both want a sword out cancel each other, so pick one of them for the party slot and leave the other in the box.
