Metal Pickaxe
Weapon · WeaponMelee1★Metal construction bumps up both how long this mining pickaxe lasts and how fast it works.
Metal Pickaxe is an early melee weapon: 73rd of 79 by attack, so treat it as a stepping stone, at 30 against the 2,400 of Laser Sword.
Wearing it also carries the effect Mining Yield Up Lv. 1, which matters more than the raw numbers in the biomes that punish you for the wrong outfit.
This is where the crafting chain ends — nothing downstream consumes it, so a stockpile earns you nothing.
Details
At 15 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby.
Metal Pickaxe Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 50 materials across 3 types.
Where to Find Metal Pickaxe
Metal Pickaxe is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Using Metal Pickaxe Well
The bench you learned to craft on will not build this. A Primitive Workbench is below the floor — the cheapest thing that accepts the recipe is either a High-Quality Workbench or a Weapon Workbench, and from either of those the whole ladder above takes it too: Production Assembly Line, Weapon Assembly Line, both Assembly Line IIs, the Advanced Workshop, the Advanced Weapon Assembly Line and the Ancient Workbench. That is worth knowing before you spend the two points, because the High-Quality Workbench sits low enough in the tree that most bases already have one standing by level 11, and if yours does you need no weapon bench at all for this.
The upgrade is not only that it lasts longer. Equipping it applies Mining Yield Up Lv. 1, which Stone Pickaxe does not carry at all — so every ore and stone node returns more per swing while this is the tool in your hand, on top of the 250 durability against 150 and 30 attack against 20. The same bonus ladders with the tier: Refined Metal Pickaxe carries Lv. 2 and Pal Metal Pickaxe carries Lv. 4. It only counts while the pickaxe is the equipped tool, so swapping to an axe mid-run drops it.
Plan on holding this one a long time. Level 11 to the next rung at 34 is twenty-three levels — Refined Metal Pickaxe is a separate two-point node — and the whole stretch where you are stripping ore for Refined Ingot happens on this pickaxe. Two things follow. Keep 15 Ingot spare for a rebuild rather than treating the recipe as one-and-done, since 250 durability is not much across a full ore run. And retire the stone one the moment this is built: it weighs 10 and this weighs 15, so carrying both is 25 weight for a tool that mines slower and yields less.
Every Tier of Stone Pickaxe
The same piece exists at 3 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 20 to 60, a 3x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.
| Rarity | Item | Attack | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0★ | Stone Pickaxe | 20 | 150 |
| 1★ | Metal Pickaxe (this one) | 30 | 250 |
| 2★ | Refined Metal Pickaxe | 60 | 300 |
What Metal Pickaxe Does
Metal Pickaxe grants Mining Yield Up Lv. 1: Collect Item Drop Natural Object +50.
Alternatives and Upgrades
Metal Axe matches it exactly at 30 attack — those two differ in what they resist and what they weigh, not in raw attack, so picking between them is a swap rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Stone Spear at 35; below it is Meat Cleaver at 25.
