Fried Egg
Food · FoodDishMeat0★An Egg improved by the pan. Holds hunger off well.
Fried Egg is an early cooked dish: 44th of 45 by hunger restored, so treat it as a stepping stone, at 23 against the 418 of Mammorest Curry.
This is where the crafting chain ends — nothing downstream consumes it, so a stockpile earns you nothing.
Details
It weighs almost nothing and stacks to 9,999, so there is no reason not to carry a full stack.
Where to Find Fried Egg
Fried Egg is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Using Fried Egg Well
The Campfire is all this needs, and that is a level 2 Technology unlock — you can be frying eggs within the first half hour of a save. Every later cooker takes the same one-Egg recipe, so the Cooking Pot at level 17, the Electric Kitchen at 41, the Large-Scale Stone Oven at 49 and the Ancient Kitchen at 70 add throughput, never a better version of the dish.
Cooking is free value here: a raw Egg restores 16 hunger, the fried one restores 23 and adds a point of Sanity, and the recipe asks for nothing but the egg itself. There is no reason to ever eat one raw — the only cost is fuel and a few seconds at the fire.
Put a Chikipi on a Ranch and the input renews itself while you are away, which turns this into the cheapest self-sustaining food on the island. A couple of Chikipi and a Campfire will keep an early base fed indefinitely without touching a single Pal drop or berry plot.
Alternatives and Upgrades
Step up from here and you get Grilled Meat at 45 hunger restored; step down and it is Hot Milk at 16. How far apart those two sit tells you whether to spend now or keep what you have.
