Leather

Material · MaterialMonster1

Hide off a Pal, and it serves as defensive material; only certain Pals yield it.

Leather is a Pal drop you pick up rather than build.

It stacks up to 9,999. It sells for almost nothing, so do not bother hauling it to a shop.

Using Leather Well

Check the icon before you start hoarding this: it is a second, separate table entry from the leather every recipe actually asks for. Nothing in the technology tree consumes it — all 137 leather recipes, from Foxparks' Harness and the early saddles up through feed bags and holsters, read the other entry, Leather. The two also part company on price, 1 Gold here against 200 there, and this one sorts to the very bottom of a container rather than sitting with your crafting stock.

For a supply that does not need killing, park Surfent on a Ranch — it is the only Pal that produces leather there, and it will drip it out while you do something else. Wandering and settlement merchants also stock leather outright at 200 Gold a unit, which is the cheaper answer once gold stops being tight, and the very hard Rayne Syndicate Smuggling Warehouse and Eternal Pyre's Forbidden Market expeditions each return 10-20 per two-hour run.

No Pal drops this version and no merchant carries it, so there is no farm to run for it. The leather you want comes off roughly 78 Pal drop entries: Mammorest and Mammorest Cryst are the fattest single kills at a guaranteed 5-10, while Eikthyrdeer and its Terra variant give a guaranteed 2-3 apiece and live close enough to a starting base to make a repeatable route.
