Wheat

Food · FoodVegetable0

The foundation of a wide range of recipes, and a crop grown commonly across much of the world.

Wheat is an early food: 16th of 20 by hunger restored, so treat it as a stepping stone, at 6 against the 100 of Corn Soup.

It is a component in one recipe, so keep a couple spare rather than a stockpile.

Where to Find Wheat

If you would rather just buy it, the cheapest seller is Caravan Shop at 70 Gold, and 3 other shops stock it too.

You can also grow it yourself at a Plantation — roughly 4.5 minutes per harvest for 10 at a time, which quickly beats foraging once the farm is running.

The Wheat Plantation that makes this renewable is a Technology level 15 unlock costing 2 points, and it is built from 15 Wood, 15 Stone and 3 Wheat Seeds — buy that first batch of seeds from a merchant, since you cannot farm wheat until one plot is already standing.

Using Wheat Well

Wheat is turned into Flour at the Mill, also a Technology level 15 unlock (40 Stone, 10 Wooden Board, 10 Ingot). The Mill runs on a Watering pal, so plan for a spare waterer beyond the ones assigned to the plantation itself.

A plantation only cycles on its own if the base covers three work suitabilities: Planting to sow the plot, Watering to grow it, and Gathering to bring the harvest in. Missing any one of the three stalls the plot and you end up collecting by hand.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Step up from here and you get Onion at 9 hunger restored; step down and it is Caramel Cotton Candy at 5. That gap is the honest measure of whether an upgrade is worth the materials right now.
