Where to Find Gatling Gun

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is crates on the large oil rig at 1.5% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

What the bench offers is decided by what you are carrying, not by what you own: the Legendary build only appears in the Weapon Assembly Line II menu while Gatling Gun Schematic 4 sits in your own inventory. Left in a base chest it does nothing, and the recipe quietly reverts to whichever lower schematic you still have on you.

No Pal drops a Gatling Gun schematic at any rarity — there is no alpha to farm and no boss to re-run. That trips people up because the Laser Gatling Gun's Legendary schematic does have a kill route (alpha Warsect, 3% a body), so the two guns look like they should be farmed the same way. This one is container loot only: oil rig crates, enemy camp boss stashes in the Sakurajima, and treasure map digs.

Ordinary oil rig crates are the one pool holding all four tiers, and the odds halve as the rarity climbs — 8% for Schematic 1, 4% for Schematic 2, 2% for Schematic 3, and 0.5% for the Legendary Schematic 4. The large rig is the exception worth the trip: its crates carry the Legendary copy alone, at 1.471%, which is the best single roll on it anywhere in the game.

Digging Epic treasure maps beats the rigs for the middle of the ladder — 6.41% on Schematic 2 and 2.564% on Schematic 3, against 4% and 2% from a rig crate — though the dig pool never hands over Schematic 1, so a ladder built purely from maps starts at Rare. Maps are the real bottleneck, and enemy camp bosses supply them: 20% from camp boss stashes in the Desert, Forest, Mount Obsidian, Snowfields and Sakurajima, and 40% from sea base camp bosses in the Desert and Snowfields. A camp circuit you were clearing anyway keeps the dig queue full.

The schematic is only half the unlock. Nothing appears on the bench until the Gatling Gun technology itself is bought at level 54 for 5 Technology Points, and that base entry builds from Pal Metal Ingot x150, Plasteel x70 and Carbon Fiber x70 — exactly half of every line in the Legendary build. Carrying Schematic 4 doubles all three and adds the 6 Ancient Civilization Parts on top, so a rig run that hands you the Legendary copy at level 54 still leaves you roughly 300 Pal Metal Ingot short of firing it.

Using Gatling Gun Well

Feeding it costs more than building it. Gatling Gun Ammo is a separate 1-point technology, also at level 54, and every single round is Gunpowder x3 plus a Pal Metal Ingot — one full 100-round magazine is 300 Gunpowder and 100 Pal Metal Ingot burned in a few seconds of held trigger. Sort out gunpowder throughput at the base before you take this to a raid boss, or you will empty a chest of ammo per attempt.

Running cost is the honest reason to pick between the two gatlings. Laser Gatling Cartridge arrives at level 59 and costs Bio Battery x1 plus Plasteel x1 a round — two ingredients, no gunpowder chain — while this gun spends four items a round for less damage (562 against the Legendary Laser Gatling Gun's 689) and less durability (24000 against 32000). What the ordinary Gatling has is timing: it lands five levels earlier, on material lines you are already running when the Sakurajima content opens up.

Every Tier of Gatling Gun

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 375 to 562, a 1.5x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Schematics That Unlock Gatling Gun

The Technology tree hands you the plain Gatling Gun at level 54 for 5 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 4), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Gatling Gun schematic works out at roughly 56 containers against the 68 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.
