Where to Find Ruby
6 Pals drop Ruby when defeated or captured, which is usually the faster route if you are already out hunting — the drop list below is sorted by how reliably each one gives it up.
If you would rather just buy it, the cheapest seller is Desert Shop at 20,000 Gold, and 3 other shops stock it too.
It also shows up as world loot — chests in the Grasslands, salvaging wrecks (rank 1) and fishing in the Grasslands, and 1 more pool besides, usually 1–3 at a time. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.

Using Ruby Well
Ruby is inert as a material. No bench recipe, no structure, no Technology entry and no NPC request consumes it — the whole point of the gem is the counter at a merchant. There is no reason to keep a reserve in the chest "for later": anything you are holding is gold you have not banked yet.
Only two of the six Pals that carry it are worth routing a trip for. Tetroise and Roujay hand over 1-2 every single time they go down; everything else on the list is a 1-5% incidental you will get while doing something else. Treat Ruby from Relaxaurus, Direhowl and Vanwyrm as a bonus, never as the plan.
