Mega Shield

Armor · Shield0

An odd Paldium-based shield that mends itself once it has gone a while without being hit; this revision raises its defense over the base model.

Mega Shield is an early shield: 7th of 8 by shield strength, so treat it as a stepping stone, at 260 against the 2,200 of Ancient Shield.

No recipe takes it as an ingredient. Whatever you build is the finished article, so there is no reason to hoard spares.

It does not stack, so every spare copy costs an inventory slot. At 11,400 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.

Mega Shield Crafting Recipe

Crafting it takes 45 materials across 3 types, and the bottleneck is almost always the 30× requirement — line that up first and the rest follows.

Where to Find Mega Shield

Mega Shield is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.

Using Mega Shield Well

This is the rung where the shield line leaves the Primitive Workbench behind. The Common Shield (Common Shield) could be built on the bench you threw up in your first ten minutes; this one needs a High-Quality Workbench at minimum, and otherwise only the two Production Assembly Lines, the Advanced Workshop and the Ancient Workbench will take it. No shield in the game can be handcrafted from the menu either, so if you spend the two points at level 16 before your base has an upgraded bench standing, you own the recipe with nowhere to make it.

Level 16 is where shields start costing boss loot. The Common Shield wanted nothing but base gathers; this one wants 5 Ancient Civilization Parts (Ancient Civilization Parts), which at that stage means alpha kills and dungeon chests. Five is the smallest demand of any shield that needs them — Giga takes 10, Hyper 20, and it climbs from there — so paying it early, while your Parts stock is still measured in single digits, is the least painful this purchase will ever be.

It is cheap in bench time, which the later shields are not. The craft is 10,000 work units against 40,000 for Giga Shield (Giga Shield) and 150,000 for Hyper Shield (Hyper Shield) — at level 16 that is one uninterrupted session with two or three Handiwork Pals on the line rather than something you start and walk away from. There is no reason to stage it: queue it the moment the last material lands.

Plan on wearing it from 16 all the way to 29. Giga Shield is the next rung and it is a level 29 technology, so these 260 points of absorbed damage cover the entire middle of the game, most of the tower-boss stretch included. Two technology points for thirteen levels of coverage is the best rate anywhere in the shield ladder, and the 160-point jump over the Common Shield is the difference between surviving one mistake and surviving an exchange.

Every Tier of Common Shield

The same piece exists at 6 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: durability runs 1000 to 22000, a 22x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Step up from here and you get Giga Shield at 540 shield strength; step down and it is Common Shield at 100. Weigh the jump against what the next tier costs you before committing the resources.
