Excalibur
Weapon · WeaponMelee4★[Tides of Terraria] A holy blade lit with golden light, and every swing throws shockwaves out around the wielder.
Excalibur is 26th of 79 melee weapons by attack, at 540 against the 2,400 of Laser Sword.
No recipe takes it as an ingredient. Whatever you build is the finished article, so there is no reason to hoard spares.
Details
At 10 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 129,600 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.
Where to Find Excalibur
The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure chests in the Yakushima at 0.011% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.
The 360 Hallowed Bar is not what gates this sword — the paper is. This tier is the top of a five-step ladder and its recipe only opens once you hold Excalibur Schematic 4 (Excalibur Schematic 4), which falls from Yakushima treasure chests at 0.011%. Waiting for that single line to hit means roughly 9,000 chests. The whole family drops from the same chests, though, at 7.068% / 1.414% / 0.283% / 0.057% / 0.011% down the tiers, and schematics fuse five-to-one at the drafting table — so a Schematic 4 is worth 625 base copies, and every lower rank you pull is progress toward it rather than a consolation prize.
Using Excalibur Well
Hallowed Bar is the one thing you should never farm on purpose for this. The same Yakushima treasure chests hand it over on every single open at 4–10 a time, and Yakushima's grade 5 chests pay 20–40, so 360 bars is about 52 ordinary chests or a dozen good ones — a rounding error against the thousand-plus you will open chasing the schematic. By the time the paper lands the metal is long since banked.
Count the fusion value and the farm shortens by a factor of five. Priced in base-schematic equivalents, one Yakushima chest averages about 0.352 of a copy across all five drop lines combined, so fusing everything you find puts the top schematic at roughly 1,775 chests instead of 9,000. The rule that follows is simple: never sell or sit on a low-rank Excalibur Schematic (Excalibur Schematic) — five of anything becomes one of the next rank up, and the ladder runs all the way to this weapon.
Every rank of Excalibur takes the same 40,000 work to build, so a lower one is a free stopgap while you keep opening chests: the wait is identical and only the bar cost moves, 30 → 45 → 90 → 180 → 360. What the extra metal buys climbs unevenly — 360 attack at the base (Excalibur), then 396, 432 and 468, before this tier jumps to 540. That last step is the biggest single gain on the ladder and it doubles the bar cost to get there, while durability runs 600 / 900 / 1,200 / 1,800 / 2,400.
Every Tier of Excalibur
The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 360 to 540, a 1.5x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.
Schematics That Unlock Excalibur
Excalibur is not learned from the Technology tree — you need a schematic for it. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.
Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure chests in the Yakushima, and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Excalibur schematic works out at roughly 1775 containers against the 9091 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades
Metal Bat sits just above it at 550 attack — only 10 more, close enough that it is a sidegrade rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Terra Blade at 552; below it is Sword at 540.
