Metal Detector
Weapon · WeaponMetalDetector3★Switch it on inside a dungeon and buried Chromite deposits get flagged for mining. Stray far enough from a flagged deposit and the marker drops off.
It feeds no other recipe, which makes it a terminal item: craft what you will actually carry and stop there.
Details
At 25 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 527,040 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.
Metal Detector Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 165 materials across 4 types, and the bottleneck is almost always the 100× requirement — line that up first and the rest follows.
Where to Find Metal Detector
Metal Detector is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Using Metal Detector Well
The Technology tree hands this over at level 58 for 3 Technology points, so it lands very late — every Chromite run before that is done by eye, and the detector is a convenience for farming the ore in bulk rather than the thing that gets you your first pieces.
It is a weapon-slot item with 0 attack, so it takes the place of a gun rather than sitting in a tool slot. Keep a real weapon on the bar next to it and swap back the moment a dungeon boss shows up — sweeping with the detector out leaves you holding something that cannot fight.
It cannot be hand-crafted from the inventory menu, and the build is a 500,000-work job — roughly sixteen times a mid-tier weapon. Queue it on an assembly line with your highest Handiwork Pals assigned and let it run while you do something else; standing there cranking it by hand is the slowest possible way to get one.
