Using Mammorest Steak Well
No kitchen required — a plain Campfire, the first cooker on the tech tree, already takes this recipe, so the meat can go on the fire the same night you drag it home. The Cooking Pot, Electric Kitchen, Large-Scale Stone Oven and Ancient Kitchen accept the identical one-ingredient recipe and only finish it sooner.
It is a slow grill for a plain grill: 10,000 work, against 3,200 for Mozzarina Steak and 1,600 for Grilled Kelpsea. One low-level Kindling Pal will get through a haul eventually, but if you are cooking a stack of these before a trip, put a proper fire Pal on it or expect the queue to sit.
Supply is exactly two steaks per beast: Mammorest and Mammorest Cryst each drop 2 Mammorest Meat every time, whether you catch them or kill them, and nothing else on the island produces the meat. Two guaranteed cuts from a Pal that size makes it one of the better meat runs per fight, but it is a fight — this is not a herd animal you farm on a ranch.
Fire is a free upgrade here and costs nothing but heat: raw Mammorest Meat restores 180 nutrition and sells for 1,000, the steak restores 252 and sells for 1,200, at the same 5 weight. There is no reason to eat the meat raw with a campfire lit, and no reason to sell it raw either.
Once a vegetable plot is running, stop grilling. The same single cut plus 2 Onion, 2 Carrot, 2 Potato and 2 Berries is Mammorest Curry at 418 nutrition, 52 SAN and 2,040 gold — roughly double the food, seventeen times the sanity, and it weighs 0.5 against this steak's 5, so it is also the food you actually carry. The catch is 70,000 work against 10,000, so keep the campfire recipe for clearing meat you have no crops for.
Bank two cuts rather than grilling both if you are anywhere near a full kitchen chain: 2 Mammorest Meat with 20 Flour, 8 Caramel, 15 Milk and 15 Eggs makes Special Cake at 738 nutrition, 92 SAN and 20,400 gold. That is the single most valuable thing the meat goes into — a Mammorest kill is worth a lot more to a base with a ranch and a mill than to a campfire.
