Refined Metal Spear
Weapon · WeaponMelee0★A melee weapon whose high-quality metal head raises its attack power, with enough shaft to strike from outside arm's length.
Refined Metal Spear is 40th of 79 melee weapons by attack, at 310 against the 2,400 of Laser Sword.
Nothing is crafted from it — it is an end product, so anything you make is meant to be used rather than banked as a component.
Details
At 20 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby.

Where to Find Refined Metal Spear
Refined Metal Spear is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Using Refined Metal Spear Well
Nothing about this recipe forces a bench upgrade. The floor is the second rung of either crafting family — a Production Assembly Line or a Weapon Assembly Line — and every bench above either of those takes it as well: both Assembly Line IIs, the Advanced Workshop, the Advanced Weapon Assembly Line and the Ancient Workbench. That matters because level 34 is well past the point where most bases have at least one of those two standing, so the only thing between you and the spear is the three technology points and ten Refined Ingot.
Do not wait on a schematic for this one — there isn't one. 310 attack and 300 durability is the whole weapon, with no Uncommon-through-Legendary ladder behind it, unlike the Metal Bat line that runs to 750 attack and 2,000 durability across four grades, or Sword, which climbs to 540 and 2,000 the same way. The only spears that carry grades are Lyleen's, and those are a different recipe entirely. Repair it, replace it, and stop checking chests for a sheet that does not exist.
Buy the plain Sword instead unless you specifically want the reach. It is a level 29 node against this one's 34, costs two technology points against three, and swings for 360 with 500 durability against 310 and 300 — earlier, cheaper and better on every number. It also weighs 10 where the spear weighs 20, so you are carrying twice the load for less damage. The spear's entire case is the shaft: it lets you poke from outside the arc of whatever is swinging back, which is worth something against melee alphas and worth nothing against anything ranged. If you are not actively using that spacing, the three points are better spent elsewhere in the tree.
This is the last craftable rung of the plain spear line, and the drop to the next one is twenty-one levels. Stone Spear at level 3 gives 35 attack, Metal Spear at 13 gives 80, this one at 34 gives 310 — and then nothing until Lily's Spear, Lily's Spear, at level 55 for 860, with Enhanced Lily's Spear at 68 for 1,200. So if you commit to spears you are holding these 310 from the mid-30s through the entire back half of the tech tree, past the point where Metal Bat (level 40, 500 attack) and the Katana (level 44, 780, and only two points) have made it obsolete. Treat it as a bridge weapon, not a build.
Twenty weight is the same as the Refined Metal Axe and Refined Metal Pickaxe that unlock alongside it at level 34, and it is the heaviest of any melee weapon you would actually fight with at that tier — swords and katanas are 10, the Metal Bat is 3. Per unit of carry weight it returns about 15 attack, against roughly 36 for the level 29 Sword and 167 for the Metal Bat, which makes it a poor thing to keep slotted as a spare once something better is in the primary slot.
Every Tier of Metal Spear
The same piece exists at 3 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 80 to 35, a 0.4x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.
| Rarity | Item | Attack | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0★ | Metal Spear | 80 | 250 |
| 0★ | Refined Metal Spear (this one) | 310 | 300 |
| 0★ | Stone Spear | 35 | 200 |
Alternatives and Upgrades
Step up from here and you get Sword at 360 attack; step down and it is Plasma Multicutter at 250. That gap is the honest measure of whether an upgrade is worth the materials right now.
