Where to Find Refined Ingot

Refined Ingot shows up as world loot — treasure chests in the Forest. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.

Using Refined Ingot Well

The two Ore and two Coal are the easy half. The Primitive Furnace you unlock at level 10 will only ever give you plain Ingot — refined bars need the Improved Furnace, which sits at Technology level 34 for 4 points and costs 100 Stone, 30 Cement, 15 Flame Organ and 5 Cryogenic Coolant to raise. Until that bench is standing you cannot smelt a single one, no matter how much ore you are sitting on.

Two later benches smelt the same recipe faster: the Electric Furnace at level 44 and the Gigantic Furnace at level 58. Neither is a shortcut past the first one, though — the Electric Furnace asks for 50 Refined Ingot in its own build cost, so those fifty bars have to come off the Improved Furnace before you can upgrade away from it.

Refined Ingot is the whole wall between the level-34 and level-41 gear tiers. The Refined Metal Spear, Axe and Pickaxe want 10 each, the armor at 37 wants 30 and the helm 20, and the heat- and cold-resistant armor at 40 and 41 want 40 apiece. That is 160 bars, or 320 Ore and 320 Coal, for one full kit — worth pointing a dedicated mining base at long before you hit the levels that unlock it.
