Katress Hair

Where to Find Katress Hair
2 Pals drop Katress Hair when defeated or captured, which is usually the faster route if you are already out hunting — the drop list below is sorted by how reliably each one gives it up.
If you would rather just buy it, the seller is Caravan Shop at 500 Gold.
Farm this after dark and nowhere else. Katress sits on 605 spawn spots, but only 45 of them are live in daylight against 615 after nightfall, so a daytime sweep of the same ground finds roughly one cat for every fourteen a night run turns up. The density is concentrated too: Cinnamoth Forest holds 69 of those points (11.4%), Hypocrite Hill 64 and Lake Center 64, and they spawn in groups of one or two. Each kill or catch is a 50% roll for a single hair, so budget about two Katress per hair — 44 encounters for the 22 a top-rarity cap wants. Katress Ignis rolls the same 50%, but it has no wild spawn points at all, so it is never the farm route.

Using Katress Hair Well
The Katress Cap exists at five rarities and hair is the only material at every rung: 5, 7, 10, 15 and 22 hair for 20, 30, 45, 60 and 80 defense, with HP 60/90/135/180/240 and durability 300 through 1200. All five carry Element Resist Dark 1, so the passive is not what you are paying for. Hair per point of defense is best in the middle — the Rare cap is 0.22 hair per defense against 0.25 at Common and 0.275 at Legendary — and crafting time doubles every rung, from 10,000 work units at the base to 160,000 at the top. Anything above Common also needs its own schematic sitting in your inventory, and all of them are built at the Primitive Workbench, so the cap is craftable long before you can afford the hair for the good version.
The Katress Ring is the better sink for ten hair than a mid-tier cap is. It costs 10 Katress Hair, 20 Refined Ingot, 20 Leather and 5 Ancient Civilization Parts at the Production Assembly Line, needs its schematic, and gives the Pal fighting beside you rank 4 Neutral damage resistance plus a rank 4 Dark damage boost — the resistance side is the widest-use one in the game, since Neutral attacks come off almost everything. Ten hair is about twenty night kills; a full Legendary cap and the ring together is 32 hair, or 16,000 Gold if you would rather buy the lot from the Caravan Shop at 500 apiece.
