Katress Cap
Armor · ArmorHead4★Katress Cap is 64th of 202 head pieces by defense, at 80 against the 650 of Ancient Helm.
Wearing it also carries the effect Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1, which matters more than the raw numbers in the biomes that punish you for the wrong outfit.
This is where the crafting chain ends — nothing downstream consumes it, so a stockpile earns you nothing.
Details
It does not stack, so every spare copy costs an inventory slot.
Where to Find Katress Cap
Katress Cap is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Using Katress Cap Well
Wearing the cap grants Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1, worth 15% off incoming Dark damage — the cap pays for itself against Katress itself and any other Dark attacker. That resistance is Lv. 1 on all five rarities of the cap, so this tier adds defense, HP and durability and nothing else. If you only came for the Dark protection, the plain cap protects exactly as well.
Every rarity of the cap needs its own schematic, and owning a lower one does not unlock this recipe. The plain cap's schematic shows up in wandering merchant stock at Duneshelter for 500 Gold; the 22-hair version only appears at a bench once you have found the tier-4 schematic.
Katress Hair drops one at a time at a 50% rate from Katress and its fire variant Katress Ignis, so budget around 44 kills for the 22 this recipe wants. Nothing else on the map drops it — no shop, no chest, no alpha bonus — so a Katress spawn cluster is the only real farm, and it is worth checking whether the plain cap's 5-hair cost already covers your needs.
The craft is 160,000 work, sixteen times the plain cap's 10,000. Put it on your best workbench with high-Handiwork pals assigned or it will stall for hours while cheaper gear cycles past it.
Every Tier of Katress Cap
The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: defense runs 20 to 80, a 4x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

What Katress Cap Does
Katress Cap grants Dark Damage Reduction Lv. 1: Element Resist Dark +15.
Schematics That Unlock Katress Cap
Katress Cap is not learned from the Technology tree — you need a schematic for it. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Alternatives and Upgrades
Gumoss Cap matches it exactly at 80 defense — those two differ in what they resist and what they weigh, not in raw defense, so picking between them is a swap rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Monarch's Crown at 90; below it is Long-Eared Headband at 80.
