Pal Metal Armor

Armor · ArmorBody4

Forged from Pal Metal Ingot, it carries enormous weight in exchange for very high defense — gear that signals a hero's nerve.

Pal Metal Armor is 68th of 145 body armours by defense, at 352 against the 1,092 of Cold-Resistant Ancient Armor.

Wearing it also carries the effects Cold Resistance Lv. 1, Heat Resistance Lv. 1, Attack Up (S) Lv. 4, which matters more than the raw numbers in the biomes that punish you for the wrong outfit.

This is where the crafting chain ends — nothing downstream consumes it, so a stockpile earns you nothing.

Crafting it takes 90 materials across 4 types.

Where to Find Pal Metal Armor

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 3) at 1.7% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

Tier 3 treasure map digs are the only route worth planning a trip around, and the gap is not close. A dig rolls the Legendary at 1.709%, the Epic at 4.274% and the Rare at 10.684%, and never the Uncommon, so nothing that falls out of the hole is filler. Five copies fuse into one of the tier above, so counted in finished Legendaries a single dig is worth about 2.99%, roughly 33 digs, where reading the top rate alone would say 58. Note the ladder here climbs in steps of two and a half rather than five: each grade you dig up is worth double the one below it per roll, which is why the direct Legendary hit still accounts for well over half the value and the Rares are worth banking rather than selling.

That makes the real farm the thing that hands you tier 3 maps, and two bosses tie for the best rate: the sea base enemy camp bosses in the Snowfields and in the Desert both cough one up on 60% of clears. Chain that with the dig and each Snowfields sea base boss you kill is worth about 1.79% of a finished Legendary — around 56 clears, and better than three ordinary supply drops. Everything else trails: Desert land camp bosses 47.5%, Snowfields land camp bosses 44%, Mount Obsidian sea base bosses 40% and its land camps 40.5%, Forest and Sakurajima land camps 30%, Grasslands sea base bosses 20%. If you are not clearing camps, the Snowfields dungeon technology-book stands pay 10.101% and chests in Feybreak and on Sunreach Isle 11.25%, but a boss you can respawn beats a chest you cannot.

Without maps the ranking is short and flat, and it is not the one the drop table suggests, because a pool paying a fat Uncommon rate is quietly paying the Legendary at a hundred and twenty-fifth of it. Converted per container in finished Legendaries: Snowfields and Sakurajima supply drops 0.531%, enemy camp loot in the Snowfields 0.335%, sea base enemy camp loot in the Snowfields the same 0.335%, Snowfields chests and Snowfields fishing 0.247% each. All four run an exact five-to-one ladder, so no grade in them is worth more than any other. The absence matters more than any of those numbers: the plain schematic appears in no boss stash pool anywhere in the game and not in Sakurajima camp loot, while the Cold and Heat versions appear in both. Clear a Snowfields camp for the containers on the approach and the map in the stash, not for the stash contents themselves.

Using Pal Metal Armor Well

Attack Up (S) Lv. 4 is the half of this the stat block undersells. The Technology-tree craft carries no attack passive whatsoever; the four schematic grades step it Lv. 1 through Lv. 4, so a Legendary is the only Pal Metal chest piece that adds damage to your own hits on top of Cold Resistance Lv. 1 and Heat Resistance Lv. 1. Work doubles every grade — 150,000, 600,000, 1,200,000, 2,400,000, 4,800,000 — and parts climb 2, 3, 4, 5, so queue it on a Production Assembly Line II with your best Handiwork crew and walk away. Never build an intermediate grade as a stopgap: fusing five schematics costs nothing but the schematics, while an Epic build alone burns 4 parts you will want back.

If a Cold or Heat Resistant Legendary schematic has also dropped, build that one and shelve this. Both reach 400 defence and 40,000 durability against this piece's 352 and 26,000, both carry a second resistance tier plus an element resist, and — the number that decides it — both cost the identical 5 Ancient Civilization Parts. The extra bill is only farmable material: 60 Pal Metal Ingot and 60 Leather instead of 40, one more High Quality Cloth, 6,400,000 work instead of 4,800,000, and either 10 Cryogenic Coolant or 32 Flame Organ. Since parts are the thing you cannot farm on demand, the plain version is strictly the worse spend whenever you hold the choice. The specialised schematics also drop where this one does not — a Snowfields sea base boss stash pays either of them at 0.276% a clear — so on that route they are the copies that actually turn up.

Check your level before spending the parts, because this piece has a narrow window. Pal Metal Armor unlocks at 46 and Plasteel at 51, and the plain Plasteel craft needs no schematic and no Ancient Civilization Parts at all yet opens at 385 defence and 1,300 HP — above the 352 and 1,200 you would be wearing. Five levels of use is a thin return on 5 parts and 4,800,000 work. What you keep past 51 is durability, 26,000 against Plasteel's 18,000, so it stays the better piece to wear while you are grinding rather than fighting. Inside its own family the crossover is worth knowing too: 352 beats an Uncommon Cold or Heat copy at 325 and a Rare one at 350, and only loses once an Epic at 375 shows up.

Know what the free version gives you before you decide the schematic is mandatory. The Technology tree hands over Pal Metal Armor at level 46 for 4 technology points and a bill of 20 Pal Metal Ingot, 20 Leather and 2 High Quality Cloth — no schematic, no Ancient Civilization Parts — and it wears in at 220 defence, 750 HP and 5,000 durability. The Legendary doubles the ingots and leather, takes two and a half times the cloth and adds the 5 parts to reach exactly 1.6 times the defence and HP. Durability is where the money actually goes: 26,000 against 5,000, so the schematic copy soaks up 5.2 times the punishment before it needs the bench. What the parts do not buy is temperature comfort — the plain craft already carries Cold Resistance Lv. 1 and Heat Resistance Lv. 1, the same pair the Legendary has, so you can cross the Snowfields in the free one and keep the schematic banked until you have five copies to fuse.

Inside the plain family the gain is front-loaded, which is the argument for hoarding rather than building early. Defence walks 220 on the tech craft, then 286, 308, 330 and 352 across Uncommon to Legendary, and HP 750, 975, 1050, 1125, 1200 — the first grade alone is half the total defence increase and half the HP. Durability climbs 5,000, 14,000, 18,000, 22,000, 26,000, so an Uncommon already covers 9,000 of the 21,000 on offer. The three grades above Uncommon together add just 66 defence, 150 HP and 12,000 durability, all of it for parts you cannot farm, so sitting on loose schematics until they fuse costs you very little wear-and-tear in the meantime.

Every Tier of Pal Metal Armor

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: defense runs 220 to 352, a 1.6x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Schematics That Unlock Pal Metal Armor

The Technology tree hands you the plain Pal Metal Armor at level 46 for 4 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 3), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Pal Metal Armor schematic works out at roughly 33 containers against the 59 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Step up from here and you get Heat Resistant Pal Metal Armor at 375 defense; step down and it is Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor at 350. How far apart those two sit tells you whether to spend now or keep what you have.
