Where to Find Cold Resistant Metal Armor

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is enemy camp loot in the Forest at 0.2% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

Level 27 and 2 technology points unlock the plain Cold Resistant Metal Armor and nothing above it; the four rarities beyond cost no further points and depend entirely on finding the schematic. For this copy that is Cold Resistant Metal Armor Schematic 4, and no Pal drops it — it is loot only. That second line is the one worth knowing about, because it means a cold set does not have to come off the moment the sun climbs — one loadout now covers a freezing night and a warm afternoon at the same base. It is only the first rung of heat protection though, so it will not hold up in the volcanic south; that half of the pair is Heat Resistant Metal Armor.

A fourth passive rides on the Legendary copy that the technology-tree craft does not have at all: Shot Attack +12%. It is tied to the schematic rarity, not the armour tier — Uncommon gives +3%, Rare +6%, Epic +9%, Legendary +12% — and it lifts every rifle, handgun and shotgun round you fire, while melee and your Pal's own damage get nothing. For a gun build that makes the Legendary paper worth hunting for its offence as much as for the 63 extra defence and the four-fold durability over the plain version.

The Ice reduction is the quiet reason to wear this into the north rather than any armour with a bigger defence number. The same regions the cold rating exists for are full of Ice attackers, so the 15% applies constantly there instead of only in a boss fight, and it stacks on top of the 168 physical defence rather than overlapping with it. Against an Ice boss you are effectively bringing more mitigation than the stat block suggests.
