Old Bow

Weapon · WeaponBow4

Crude ranged weapon put together in a hurry, and the damage reflects that.

Old Bow is 16th of 25 bows by attack, at 247 against the 24,000 of Mechanical Bow.

It feeds no other recipe, which makes it a terminal item: craft what you will actually carry and stop there.

Where to Find Old Bow

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 1) at 0.8% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

The dig line above starts one step late, because a tier 1 treasure map is itself something you have to find. Maps come out of enemy camp boss stashes at 40% in the Grasslands and 35% in the Forest, out of grade 5 chests at 20% in the Desert and on Mount Obsidian and 12.5% in the Snowfields, and off the technology-book stands in Mount Obsidian dungeons at 10.1%. The first of those is the route worth planning: a Grasslands camp is clearable in your teens, hands over the map at 40%, and drops the Ancient Civilization Part the craft needs on the same trip. Note also that the dig pool carries Schematics 2, 3 and 4 but never Schematic 1, so a dig always starts you a rung up; Grasslands fishing is the only pool in the game that hands out the 1-star copy.

Because copies fuse five-to-one, the honest value of a source is the whole ladder it drops, not the top rung alone. Counting every rung, 100 tier 1 digs are worth about 1.35 Legendary copies — roughly 74 digs each, not the 130 the top-tier odds alone suggest — against about 0.88 per 100 Grasslands fishing pulls. The two pools are also shaped differently, and it changes what you do with spares. Fishing steps by exactly five between rungs (27.4%, 5.5%, 1.1%, 0.219%), so every rung is worth precisely the same after fusing and nothing should ever be scrapped. The dig pool steps by only two and a half (4.8%, 1.9%, 0.769%), which makes the Legendary copy twice as efficient to pull outright as to fuse for — the one place where hunting the top tier directly is the better play.

Using Old Bow Well

Every rarity of this bow is built at the Primitive Workbench, which the Technology tree sells at level 3 for a single point, so the schematic is not gated behind research at all — the bench, 60 Wood, 10 Stone, 30 Fiber and one Ancient Civilization Part is the entire bill, and every alpha and field boss in the game drops one to two Parts at 100%, so the first one you can beat covers that line. Two things to know before you walk up to the bench. The schematic has to be in your own inventory when you do it; left in a base chest, the Legendary option simply never appears in the menu and nothing explains why. And the work figure is 64,000 against 2,000 for the tech-tree build — thirty-two times the labour out of nearly the same materials, which is a long queue for the Handiwork Pals a level 3 base has. Stack the bench before you start the craft. Worth knowing too: Schematics 1 through 3 need no Ancient Civilization Part at all, so a 3-star copy buys you 208 attack and 600 durability for wood, stone and fiber alone, at half the work.

This bow chambers three different arrows, and two of them unlock inside the very window it covers. Arrow comes with the weapon at level 3, Fire Arrow at 6 and Poison Arrow at 8 — one technology point apiece, all three built at the same Primitive Workbench, all three in batches of ten off the same 2 Wood and 2 Stone. The elemental pair adds exactly one ingredient per batch: a Flame Organ or a Venom Gland, both of them 100% drops from pals you are already catching in your first hours. Foxparks hands over one to two Flame Organs, Rooby and Flambelle two to three; Depresso gives two to three Venom Glands, Killamari two to four, Daedream one. The real cost is labour rather than materials — 4,000 work per ten against 1,000 for plain arrows — so queue the special arrows in bulk instead of ten at a time. It is worth the queue because the bow carries no element of its own, and with a magazine of one every shot is a separate decision: the arrow you loaded is the only lever you have on what kind of damage lands.

What makes this copy matter is the window it covers. After the Old Bow at level 3 the Technology tree offers no ranged weapon whatsoever until the Crossbow at 13 — the Stone Spear and the Bat in between are both melee — and a Legendary build lands at 247 attack, within twelve percent of that Crossbow's 280 while carrying 700 durability against its 300. Craft it early and you are holding, for ten levels, a bow that a weapon ten levels ahead barely improves on and lasts less than half as long. Ammunition seals the argument: arrows are 2 Wood and 2 Stone for ten at the same Primitive Workbench, with no furnace, no gunpowder and no supply line behind them, so this is a weapon you can fire without rationing while everything later in the tree is fed by an ore chain.

Every Tier of Old Bow

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 65 to 247, a 3.8x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Ammunition Old Bow Uses

Old Bow takes 3 kinds of ammunition — Arrow, Fire Arrow, Poison Arrow — so the damage you actually deal depends as much on what you loaded as on the weapon itself.

Schematics That Unlock Old Bow

The Technology tree hands you the plain Old Bow at level 3 for 1 Technology point, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 1), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Old Bow schematic works out at roughly 74 containers against the 130 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Step up from here and you get Compound Bow at 1,100 attack; step down and it is Old Bow at 208. The size of that step is what decides whether the crafting bill is justified yet.
