Poison Bow
Weapon · WeaponBow0★A grim-looking bow that poisons whatever it hits, and poison makes a Pal easier to catch. Runs on Poison Arrow.
Poison Bow is an early bow: 22nd of 25 by attack, so treat it as a stepping stone, at 65 against the 24,000 of Mechanical Bow.
Nothing is crafted from it — it is an end product, so anything you make is meant to be used rather than banked as a component.
Details
It does not stack, so every spare copy costs an inventory slot. It sells for almost nothing, so do not bother hauling it to a shop.
Poison Bow Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 70 materials across 4 types.
Where to Find Poison Bow
Poison Bow is not something you find lying around — you craft it, and the recipe is below.
Venom Gland (Venom Gland) is a guaranteed drop, never a roll, from every Pal that carries it — the question is only how many per kill. Menasting (Menasting) is the best farm in the game at 5-10 a body, with Shroomer Noct (Shroomer Noct) at 4-8 and Prixter (Prixter) at 4-5 behind it. Early on, before any of those are reachable, Depresso (Depresso) at 2-3 and Killamari (Killamari) at 2-4 will keep a quiver stocked. Tarantriss (Tarantriss) sits in the middle at 2-5.
Using Poison Bow Well
The 65 attack and 150 durability are not a poison tax or a poison bonus — they are the standard single-shot bow line. The Old Bow (Old Bow) and the Fire Bow (Fire Bow) carry the identical 65 attack, 150 durability and 6 weight. Swapping to this bow costs you nothing in raw damage and gains you nothing either; every point of value is in the poison the arrow leaves behind and what that does to a capture. For comparison the Three Shot Bow (Three Shot Bow) lists only 40 attack, trading per-arrow damage for volume and 250 durability.
The bow is a one-time cost and the ammo is the real one. A Poison Arrow (Poison Arrow) is Wood x2, Stone x2 and Venom Gland x1 at a Primitive Workbench — one gland per arrow, and the bow fires one arrow per shot. Your gland stock is your effective magazine. Building the bow itself only spends 2 glands, so anyone who can afford to craft it can afford it; the question is whether you can feed it. Arrows weigh 0.025 each, so 200 of them is 5 weight — carry capacity is never the limit, gland supply is.
Do not buy your way through this weapon. Village, Caravan and Dungeon shops all sell Venom Gland at 300 Gold apiece, and since one gland is one arrow, a purchased quiver runs 300 Gold per shot fired. Thirty arrows off the shelf is 9,000 Gold. A single Menasting kill hands you up to ten for free. Shop glands are an emergency top-up before a capture run, not a supply line.
The upgrade keeps your stockpile. The Poison Arrow Crossbow (Poison Arrow Crossbow) chambers the exact same Poison Arrow, so every gland you banked for the bow transfers with no rework — but it hits for 280 instead of 65 and holds 300 durability instead of 150. The cost is weight: 13 against this bow's 6. Once the crossbow is available there is no reason to keep firing the bow, and no reason to have held back on glands in the meantime.
Ammunition Poison Bow Uses
Poison Bow takes 3 kinds of ammunition — Arrow, Fire Arrow, Poison Arrow — so the damage you actually deal depends as much on what you loaded as on the weapon itself.
| Ammo | Yield | Craft cost |
|---|---|---|
| ×10 | Wood ×2, Stone ×2 | |
| ×10 | Wood ×2, Stone ×2, Flame Organ ×1 | |
| ×10 | Wood ×2, Stone ×2, Venom Gland ×1 |
Alternatives and Upgrades
Old Bow matches it exactly at 65 attack — those two differ in what they resist and what they weigh, not in raw attack, so picking between them is a swap rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Old Bow at 130; below it is Recurve Bow at 40.
