Overheat Rifle

Weapon · WeaponAssaultRifle4

Assault rifle that fires without ever reloading, though long sustained bursts overheat it and leave its user wide open.

Overheat Rifle is 29th of 70 assault rifles by attack, at 1,470 against the 15,000 of Charge Rifle.

This is where the crafting chain ends — nothing downstream consumes it, so a stockpile earns you nothing.

At 15 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 3,519,480 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.

Overheat Rifle Crafting Recipe

Crafting it takes 708 materials across 5 types.

Where to Find Overheat Rifle

The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is sea base enemy camp boss stashes in the Sakurajima at 0.7% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.

Using Overheat Rifle Well

Feeds on Overheat Rifle Ammo, its own dedicated ammo type — nothing else chambers in it. The Caravan Shop sells it at 920 gold a round, so budget for the fact that "never reloads" still means you burn through the magazine faster than any other assault rifle.

Two things trip people up at craft time. The rifle is built at the Advanced Weapon Assembly Line, not the standard Weapon Workbench — the legendary recipe simply will not appear on the lower bench. And Schematic 4 has to be sitting in your own inventory when you craft; parked in a base chest or a Pal's slot it does nothing, so pull it out before you queue the build.

The weapon line itself unlocks at Technology level 64 for 5 points. That only gets you the base rifle at 1225 attack and 3000 durability — this legendary build needs Overheat Rifle Schematic 4 (Overheat Rifle Schematic 4) on top of it, which is worth chasing purely for the durability: 6000 versus 3000 doubles how long the gun lasts before repairs.

Schematic 4 has four routes. The most reliable is the Arena Shop, which stocks it outright for 1500 Battle Tickets. Otherwise it turns up in boss stashes at the Sakurajima sea base enemy camps (roughly 72% of the time), from tier-5 treasure map digs (around 60%), and rarely while fishing in the Feybreak.

There is a fifth route the shop-and-dig list misses: the alpha Frostallion Noct hands over Schematic 4 directly, at a 3% rate off its boss table. It is the only Pal in the game that drops this schematic at all. At 3% you are looking at a long grind of repeat kills, so treat it as a bonus on a Pal you were already farming for its guaranteed Ancient Civilization Parts rather than a plan for the schematic — 1500 Battle Tickets is far less painful. Its alpha lair sits inside the No. 3 Wildlife Sanctuary, so bring a glider and expect the sanctuary's guard drones on the way in.

Every Tier of Overheat Rifle

The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 1225 to 1470, a 1.2x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.

Ammunition Overheat Rifle Uses

Overheat Rifle fires Overheat Rifle Ammo, and nothing else — running dry mid-fight is the usual way this weapon lets you down, so keep the recipe unlocked before you rely on it.

Schematics That Unlock Overheat Rifle

The Technology tree hands you the plain Overheat Rifle at level 64 for 5 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.

Fastest route. The fastest route is sea base enemy camp boss stashes in the Sakurajima, and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Overheat Rifle schematic works out at roughly 23 containers against the 33 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.

Alternatives and Upgrades

Semi-Auto Rifle sits just above it at 1,495 attack — only 25 more, close enough that it is a sidegrade rather than an upgrade. The next real step is Laser Rifle at 1,562; below it is Laser Rifle at 1,437.
