Using Eidrolon Saddle Well
The unlock sits at technology level 68 and costs 5 points, but the bench it is built on is the starter one — the Pal Gear Workbench is technology 6 for 2 points and 10 Paldium Fragment, 30 Wood and 2 Cloth, and no upgraded tier of it exists anywhere in the game. So there is nothing to build ahead of this beyond what you have owned since the first hour. What does matter is who you put on it: the craft carries 60,000 work against a 30,000 median for Pal gear, and the bench accepts any Pal with Handiwork rank 1 or better, so staff it with your best Handiwork Pals before queueing the order.
What the saddle switches on is Liberated Pterosaur, which is a flight unlock and a self-buff in one. Both halves of the buff — Ranged Attack and Move Speed — climb 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6% with Eidrolon's condense rank, and each one is paid per other Dragon or Dark Pal riding along in your party. Four other slots is the ceiling, so an uncondensed Eidrolon with a full Dragon-or-Dark team is running 8% while a five-star one on the same team is at 24%. The buff lands on Eidrolon itself, not on the party, and Eidrolon is Dragon / Dark, so its own kin qualify twice over — Xenolord, Astegon, Shadowbeak and the Ignis variant all count.
The 20 Soralite Ingot are the whole gate here; everything else you will have lying around. Each ingot refines from 2 Soralite Ore plus 2 Pure Quartz in an Ancient Furnace, so the saddle alone eats 40 ore and 40 Pure Quartz, and the refine unlock is technology 66 for 3 points — two levels ahead of the saddle, which is tight if you have not spent there yet. There is no base production route at this point either: the Soralite Quarry is a technology 72 boss unlock costing 7 points, four levels past the saddle, so the ore comes out of Sunreach by hand. Start mining before you spend the 5 points or the recipe sits unbuildable. The 30 High Quality Cloth is the painless half — a Sibelyx on a Ranch prints it, against 2,640 gold apiece at a Caravan Shop.
For the stretch between level 68 and level 77 this is the fastest thing in the sky you can legally reach. Eidrolon sprints at 2750 against a flying median of 1200, and only three flyers in the game beat it: Shaolong at 2800 behind a technology 77 saddle, Panthalus at 3000, and Jetragon at 3300 behind a technology 79 saddle. Nine levels of the endgame with the near-best flight speed is the real return on the 5 points. The catch is the tank — 130 stamina against a flying median of 170, so it burns its sprint faster than Frostallion's 300 does and wants a landing plan on long crossings.
Do not hold off building this for the Eidrolon Ignis Saddle. The two Pals fly on identical numbers, 2750 sprint and 130 stamina apiece, but the Ignis saddle is technology 76 for a heavier bill — 48 Leather, 36 High Quality Cloth, 24 Paloxite Ingot, 20 Flame Organ and 50 Paldium Fragment against this one's 40 / 30 / 20 / 45. Eight levels earlier for less material, with the same ride underneath: build this one, and treat the Ignis version as a partner-skill swap rather than a travel upgrade.
Eidrolon Saddle — Eidrolon's Gear
Eidrolon Saddle is Eidrolon's own gear — no other Pal can equip it, and Eidrolon cannot be ridden or put to work in its geared role until you have this in your inventory.
Equipping it turns on Eidrolon's partner skill, Liberated Pterosaur.
Eidrolon is Dragon / Dark, which is what decides where it is worth taking — the gear does not change its typing, only what you can do with it.
