Pengullet Effigy

Essential2

An odd Pal carving that shows up throughout the Palpagos Islands. Offering them at one specific statue improves a player's abilities.

Pengullet Effigy is a item you pick up rather than build.

Where to Find Pengullet Effigy

Thirty are placed in the world and the ladder only needs 20, so you have ten to miss. Twenty-eight of the thirty are packed into the volcanic southwest of the main map — the swim upgrade is farmed in lava country, not near water. The two exceptions are offshore: one about 220 m from the Bicornis Islet stone, one roughly 190 m from Flamepulse Islet. Not a single one is in the World Tree.

Counted by the fast-travel stone you would warp to, the mainland twenty-eight break down as: Ruined Fortress City 5, Mount Obsidian - Midpoint 4, Mount Obsidian Trail 3, and two each around Mount Obsidian - Second Ascent, Mount Obsidian - Anubis Statue, Heatwave Gate, Dry Dunes, Fisherman's Point, Beach of Everlasting Summer and Ancient Civilization Ruins, plus one apiece near Foot of the Volcano and the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance. The three shortest walks in the set are about 16 m from Second Ascent, 44 m from Heatwave Gate and 114 m from Dry Dunes.

Using Pengullet Effigy Well

This effigy buys swim speed at the Statue of Power, and the ladder is the cleanest one in the game: 20 ranks, exactly one effigy per rank, +5% swim speed each. Rank 20 has you moving through water at double your base speed. Nothing else spends a Pengullet Effigy, and no other effigy pays into swim speed, so every one you pick up is worth exactly one rank.

Because the placements sit in the volcano band, treat the swim ladder as a Mount Obsidian errand rather than a coastal one — bring heat protection and clear it on the same trip you run ore or the fortress ruins. The Ruined Fortress City and Midpoint stones alone cover nine of the twenty you need, so two warps and a loop out of each is most of the ladder. The ten spares mean you can skip both islets and still cap out.

Pengullet is a Water and Ice Pal, its effigy upgrades swimming, and the game buried all but two of them in a volcano. Track-by-track counts for the other twelve effigy species are in the effigy upgrade guide.
