Prototype Shotgun
Weapon · WeaponShotgun4★Forged from Soralite Ingots, it puts out crushing damage at point-blank, and its special magazine keeps it firing through drawn-out fights.
Prototype Shotgun is the strongest shotgun in the game by attack, at 1,400.
Nothing is crafted from it — it is an end product, so anything you make is meant to be used rather than banked as a component.
Details
At 20 weight each it eats carry capacity fast, so bring a mount or park a chest nearby. At 4,311,000 gold it is worth real money to a merchant.
Prototype Shotgun Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 229 materials across 5 types.
Where to Find Prototype Shotgun
The recipe is not on the Technology tree — it is locked behind a schematic you have to find first. The best single source is treasure map digs (tier 5) at 0.3% per container, and the table below lists every tier and where each one drops.
Using Prototype Shotgun Well
The recipe on this page never appears on the technology screen. Technology level 69 costs 4 points and unlocks only the Common Prototype Shotgun (Prototype Shotgun); every rarity above that is gated behind a schematic you have to find, and this Legendary build needs Prototype Shotgun Schematic 4 (Prototype Shotgun Schematic 4) sitting in your inventory before the recipe shows up. Both the plain gun and the Legendary are assembled at the Ancient Workbench, so the real prerequisite is having that bench standing and a Soralite pipeline feeding it.
It does not take shotgun shells. It fires Prototype Shotgun Ammo (Prototype Shotgun Ammo), which is a separate technology at level 69 for 2 more points and is also crafted at the Ancient Workbench, from 8 Gunpowder and 4 Soralite Ingot. Budget for that before the first raid: the Legendary holds 20 rounds to the Common gun's 12, so a full reload alone is nearly two batches of ingots, and there is no vendor shortcut — the Soralite has to be mined and smelted.
The schematic hunt is worth it for the durability more than the damage. Against the Common version the Legendary gains 233 attack (1400 vs 1167) and eight rounds of magazine, but it also carries four times the durability — 24000 against 6000 — which is the difference between a gun that survives a full raid rotation and one you are repairing between attempts. If you only ever pull the Common copy off the tech tree, treat it as a burst weapon and carry a backup.
Every Tier of Prototype Shotgun
The same piece exists at 5 rarities, and the gap is not cosmetic: attack runs 1167 to 1400, a 1.2x swing. Which one you end up with is decided by the rarity of the schematic you built from, not by the recipe — so a legendary copy of this is worth more than the next item up built from a common one.
| Rarity | Item | Attack | Durability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0★ | Prototype Shotgun | 1167 | 6000 |
| 1★ | Prototype Shotgun | 1225 | 9000 |
| 2★ | Prototype Shotgun | 1283 | 12000 |
| 3★ | Prototype Shotgun | 1342 | 18000 |
| 4★ | Prototype Shotgun (this one) | 1400 | 24000 |
Ammunition Prototype Shotgun Uses
Prototype Shotgun fires Prototype Shotgun Ammo, and nothing else — running dry mid-fight is the usual way this weapon lets you down, so keep the recipe unlocked before you rely on it.
| Ammo | Yield | Craft cost |
|---|---|---|
| ×10 | Soralite Ingot ×4, Gunpowder ×8 |
Schematics That Unlock Prototype Shotgun
The Technology tree hands you the plain Prototype Shotgun at level 69 for 4 Technology points, but nothing above that base version — the rarer builds are schematic-only. One schematic grants the recipe, and they are world loot — chests, boss Pals and the late-game pools — rather than anything you research. Higher-rarity copies of the same schematic raise the quality of what you end up crafting.
Fastest route. The fastest route is treasure map digs (tier 5), and the reason is the ladder rather than the top rung: that pool stocks every tier, so the common copies it hands you fuse upward into the one you want. Counting them, a top-tier Prototype Shotgun schematic works out at roughly 192 containers against the 337 the 4★ drop rate alone suggests. Spare low tiers are progress, not clutter. Schematics fuse five-to-one, so a lower tier with better odds can beat the top tier outright. Counts are containers of that source, not time.
| Schematic | Rarity | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| 4★ | Treasure map digs (tier 5), Sunreach Isle treasure chests, fishing in Sunreach Isle +4 more — best 0.3% (grade 5/6) |
Alternatives and Upgrades
Nothing in the shotgun class beats it on attack. The next one down is Prototype Shotgun at 1,342, so if you are still using that, this is the upgrade worth the materials.
