Where to Find Dark Radiant Gem
17 Pals drop Dark Radiant Gem when defeated or captured, which is usually the faster route if you are already out hunting — the drop list below is sorted by how reliably each one gives it up.
It also shows up as world loot — recycling Decayed Ancient Relics, recycling Dormant Ancient Relics and recycling Gorgeous Ancient Relics, and 6 more pools besides, usually 1–3 at a time. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.
Sending a team on the World Tree Subterrenean City Ruins and The World Tree's Forbidden Area expeditions brings some back without you leaving base.
Treat Ancient Relic recycling as a bonus, never as the plan. Even the best-paying relic, Glistening, converts at 4.4% for a single gem, which is around 1,100 relics for one crystal's worth; Decayed at 2.1% is closer to 2,400. You also have to build the Ancient Relic Recycler first — 50 Paloxite Ingot, 50 Mythical Wood, 30 Ancient Civilization Parts and 20 Ancient Civilization Core — so the structure alone costs more World Tree material than a few boss runs would. The recycler earns its keep for relics you were going to dump anyway, not for gem farming. The fire-sealed chests in the World Tree are the only non-Pal source worth routing for: 33.3% for 5-10 gems a chest is better than every recycling line combined.

Using Dark Radiant Gem Well
The gem is only half the bill. One Dark Awakening Crystal takes 50 Dark Radiant Gems and 10 World Tree Holy Water, and the craft yields exactly one crystal — there is no bulk discount for stacking materials. Holy Water is the half people forget, because the gems arrive in piles of 10-20 from a single Dark boss while Holy Water has to be gathered separately in the World Tree. Count your Holy Water first: if you are sitting on 30 of it, your real ceiling is three crystals no matter how many gems you hoard.
Two very different farms hide in the drop table. The 10-20 tier — Helzephyr, Helzephyr Lux, Starryon, Splatterina, Lyleen Noct, Shadowbeak and Selyne — pays out at 100% every time, so an average haul of 15 gems means roughly three or four kills for a full 50-gem crystal. The 1-3 tier (Majex, Smokie Cryst, Celesdir Noct, Loomen, Dandilord and friends) also hits 100% but averages two gems, so the same crystal costs about 25 encounters. Stick to the big seven and the crystal is an afternoon; grind the small Dark Pals and it is a chore. Capturing works as well as killing here — a thrown sphere that lands still awards the drop, so you can bank the Pal and the gems in one go.
