How to Get Helzephyr
Helzephyr is one of the Pals you can simply buy: a Pal merchant sells it at level 20–30, which skips the hunt when you want one at a known level. Show the merchants on the map →
Helzephyr is Dark, so a Dragon attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.
Wild Helzephyr spawn between level 24 and 80. A level 80 one resists far more than a level 24; catch cheap first, then farm the high spawns for condensing.
Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it exactly average, so weaken it properly and throw from behind for the back-strike bonus.
Hunt it after dark. Helzephyr is nocturnal and its night spawn table is more than twice the size of its daytime one (1,109 night points against 511 day points), so a night run over the same ground turns up far more birds. It is aggressive and will open fire the moment it notices you, so set your throw range before you get close.
DragonPlaying Helzephyr Well
Bring Dragon-element attackers. Helzephyr is pure Dark, so Dragon moves cut through it while Dark damage of your own is resisted. Its own kit is mostly ranged Dark with two Fire moves (Spirit Fire at level 1, Flare Storm at 22), and everything it learns is Shot category — there is no melee to bait, so fighting from cover beats circling it.
Its partner skill, Wings of Death, is the reason to keep one: it flies as a mount, and while you are riding it your own attacks are converted to Dark element and your ranged attack rises by 5/7/10/14/20% as the skill ranks from 1 to 5. That makes it a firing platform as much as a taxi — a maxed one is a flat 20% ranged buff you can keep in the air.
You need the Helzephyr Saddle before you can ride it: 3 technology points at level 25, then 30 Leather, 30 Paldium Fragment, 20 Ingot, 20 Electric Organ and 10 Cloth at a Pal Gear Workbench. In the air it runs 700 with an 1,100 sprint on 170 stamina, so it is a solid mid-game flyer rather than a top-tier one.
In a base it does exactly one job: Transporting at level 4, with no other work suitability at all. Drop it into a base that is drowning in hauling — a heavy ore or logging outpost — and pair it with workers that actually produce, because it will never mine, craft or water anything.
Helzephyr is a parent in two combos worth planning around. Pair it with Frostallion to get Frostallion Noct, and with Beakon to get its own subspecies Helzephyr Lux. Both are cheaper routes than farming the legendary or subspecies spawns directly.
The Dark/Electric subspecies Helzephyr Lux is the strict upgrade for base work — Transporting 5 plus Generating Electricity 4 — but its saddle is a level 47 unlock, so the plain Helzephyr stays the one you actually fly for the first half of the game.
