How to Get Croajiro
Croajiro can be fished up rather than fought — 15 wild spots of the small kind hold it, at level 1–30. The alpha turns up on the bigger spots, so a rod can hand you one without a fight. Once you have a Fishing Pond at base it shows up there too — 9.5% per catch in the small pool, which is the hands-off way to farm one.
Croajiro is Water, so an Electric or Grass attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.
Wild Croajiro spawn between level 4 and 49. That top end fights the sphere much harder, so start low and leave the tougher ones until you need duplicates.
Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it dead average, which makes the back-strike bonus worth lining up before you throw.
You do not have to catch one at all: a Damp Egg pulled from a nest in the grasslands, the snowfields or Sakurajima can hatch a Croajiro, which starts it at level 1 with its passives already rolled instead of stuck with whatever a wild adult came with.

The Cherry Blossom Cave boss is a Water pal, so Electric damage is what breaks it quickly - the Fire team most players have levelled by the time they reach Sakurajima is exactly the wrong answer, since Water shrugs Fire off. Bring an Electric attacker and the health bar comes down fast enough that you can start throwing spheres early.
Leap Stance is not a mount - Croajiro takes no saddle. Standing on its back springs you high enough to clear ledges and cliff shelves long before you own a flying pal, and while it is out as your partner your ranged attack rises 50% at skill rank 1, up to 86% once the skill is maxed. That buff is the real reason to keep one in the party if you fight with bows or crossbows.
Croajiro Noct cannot be bred from an ordinary pair - the only recipe is the unique combo Croajiro x Bushi Noct, or two Croajiro Noct together. It is worth the detour for a base build: the Noct form keeps Watering, Gathering and Transporting but doubles Handiwork to level 2, and swaps to Water/Dark typing with Shadow Stance.
As a parent Croajiro is one of the most flexible Pals in the game, feeding 141 different children's recipes, so a spare with good passives is worth keeping in the box rather than butchering it. Two Croajiro also breed true, which is the cheap way to stack Legend or Swift onto one before you use it as a parent elsewhere.

Where to Find Croajiro
Croajiro spawn locations in the wild — every marked spot is a known spawn area.
Most of them are around Rayne Syndicate Tower Entrance (10% of known spots), with smaller pockets near Small Cove. They come in groups of up to 3, so plan sphere stock for more than one.
Croajiro in Base Raids
Croajiro shows up in 5 raid groups that attack your base, at level 10–26 around the Sakurajima. Worth knowing before you settle there — build your defences around what actually turns up.
Dungeons Croajiro Appears In
Besides its wild habitat, Croajiro turns up inside one cavern, and takes the boss chamber in one of them. Caverns are the reliable option when the overworld roll is not going your way.
the boss chamber fight is level 47–49, and ordinary cavern spawns run level 40–45.
