Needs Shadowbeak Saddle equipped — without that gear the skill does nothing. It unlocks at Technology level 47 for 4 points, so a Pal caught early can sit unusable for a while.

It came out of the depths of madness and its existence makes no sense on any level. Every genetic tie to other Pals is gone, to the point that calling it a Pal at all is questionable.

Shadowbeak Stats by Level

What Shadowbeak actually reads at each level, from a worst-case individual (IV 0) to a perfect one (IV 100). These are the base numbers — condensing, souls and Trust raise them further.

How to Get Shadowbeak

Shadowbeak is Dark, so a Dragon attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.

Wild Shadowbeak spawn between level 50 and 80. A level 80 one resists far more than a level 50; catch cheap first, then farm the high spawns for condensing.

Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it dead average, which makes the back-strike bonus worth lining up before you throw.

Wild levels here run 50 to 80, which is the widest band you will meet on a normal-world Pal, and the roll is not in your control — you can walk into a level-52 catch or a level-80 one on the same patch of sand. Its temperament is aggressive, so it opens on you the moment you enter its view cone rather than letting you set up a throw from range. Plan the trip as a fight first and a capture second: soften it well into the red, then throw, and carry enough top-tier spheres to eat a failure, because a rerolled spawn can come back twenty-eight levels higher than the one you just lost.

Playing Shadowbeak Well

The tower rematch is a different animal from the first clear, and not because of the health bar. The opening fight multiplies HP heavily but leaves its damage and its incoming damage untouched, so it is a long fight you can out-trade. The rematch multiplies its outgoing damage twelvefold and cuts what it takes from you to a quarter — that quarter is the number that decides the fight. Raw DPS will not close it; Dragon-element damage will, since that is what its pure Dark typing gives up. Leave your own Dark hitters at base for this one, and bring the ammunition and revival stock for a fight measured in minutes, not seconds.

It is also one of the most common faces on the far side of the arena. The Diamond rank fields it as the lead Pal of the PAL Genetic Research Unit roster, and Master rank is thick with it: one opponent runs three at level 65 alongside two Xenogards, another two at once, and two more single it out. Anyone climbing past Diamond should build a Dragon answer specifically for this Pal rather than a generalist team — the same counter also covers the Xenogards it is usually paired with.

The saddle is a level-47 unlock costing 4 points, and what it buys is a Dark amplifier with wings rather than a fast flier. Sprint speed of 1,200 leaves it mid-pack among the twenty-nine flying mounts — Jetragon is nearly three times quicker — but 250 stamina is well above the fliers around it, so it holds a line longer between rests. The payoff is the mounted Dark bonus, 30% at max partner-skill rank, which turns any Dark weapon skill or Dark Pal damage you are stacking into real numbers. One caveat before you spend the points: Selyne carries the identical 30% Dark bonus, adds the same figure for Neutral, and flies faster with more stamina — its saddle unlocks six tech levels later, so this one is the earlier stopgap rather than the long-term pick.

Do not station it at a base. Gathering 2 is the whole of its work sheet, and it pairs that single mid-grade job with a top-bracket appetite — food tier 8 against a 530 hunger pool — so it will empty a feed box faster than the berries it picks justify. Anything cheaper with Gathering 2 does the same job for a fraction of the upkeep. Keep this one in the party slot where the mount bonus and the 140 defense actually earn their keep.

Every wild point sits in the desert, and almost all of them in one pocket: ten of the eleven coordinates fall inside Deep Sand Dunes, with a single outlier over at The Furthest Flats. Both of those are fast-travel names, so you can drop straight into the cluster rather than fly the length of the map. The day and night tables are identical — the same eleven spots, no extra night-only entry — so there is nothing to gain by waiting for dark, and the only real scheduling question is gear: the dunes cook you at noon and freeze you after sunset, so the clock you arrive on decides whether you pack heat or cold resistance.
