Large Pal Soul
Material · MaterialMonster3★The spirit a large Pal leaves behind. Offered up at a Statue of Power, it pulls out abilities a Pal had kept buried.
Large Pal Soul feeds 2 different recipes, which is why it is worth farming past the point you think you need it.
Details
It weighs almost nothing and stacks to 9,999, so there is no reason not to carry a full stack. It sells for almost nothing, so do not bother hauling it to a shop.
Large Pal Soul Crafting Recipe
Crafting it takes 1 material across 1 type. Each craft returns 2, so the real cost per unit is lower than the list suggests.
Where to Find Large Pal Soul
19 Pals drop Large Pal Soul when defeated or captured, which is usually the faster route if you are already out hunting — the drop list below is sorted by how reliably each one gives it up.
It also shows up as world loot — field drops in the Mount Obsidian, field drops in the Desert and field drops in the Snowfields, and 22 more pools besides, usually 1–2 at a time. Higher-grade chests carry the better rolls, so the ones guarded by a camp are usually worth the detour.
Sending a team on the Blazing Cavern, Hidden Sanctum of the Desert and Astral Frost Cavern expeditions brings some back without you leaving base, and 2 more expeditions can return it too.
Chests inside 3 caverns, including Astral Mountains Cavern and Cherry Blossom Cave, can hold it as well.

Using Large Pal Soul Well
At a Statue of Power this is the currency for ranks 8, 9 and 10 specifically: 1 soul for rank 8, 2 for rank 9, 3 for rank 10. Six per Pal to go from rank 7 to 10, or thirty to take a five-Pal team through that stretch. Rank 11 and everything above it stops accepting these and asks for Giant Pal Soul instead, so there is a hard ceiling on how many you ever need for one Pal.
The whole soul ladder converts in both directions at 2:1, which means no soul is ever stranded at the wrong size. Two Medium Pal Soul press up into one Large, and one Large breaks back down into two. The same holds above it against Giant Pal Soul. Practically: three Giant souls split into exactly the six Large a rank 7-to-10 run needs, so bank the Giants and cut them down only when a Pal is actually standing at the statue.
Expeditions are the only supply that does not involve a fight. Moonflower's Secret Hideout pays 7-11 of these every run at a guaranteed rate — more than a full rank 7-to-10 push per 120-minute trip — and Astral Frost Cavern is the same guarantee at 5-7 in an hour. Against that, most of the Pals that drop these at 100% are one-off world bosses; the tempting names near the bottom of the drop list (Jetragon, Neptilius, the Whalaskas) sit at 1% and are not a farm.
