How to Get Dogen
Dogen is Neutral, so a Dark attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.
Wild Dogen spawn between level 51 and 56. That top end fights the sphere much harder, so start low and leave the tougher ones until you need duplicates.
Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it exactly average, so weaken it properly and throw from behind for the back-strike bonus.
Both pockets run the same 52 points at night as they do by day, so this is not a Pal you have to wait out — the clock changes nothing about where it stands or how many turn up. Plan the trip around the level band instead, since a level 51-56 field Dogen will shrug off spheres thrown too early.
DarkPlaying Dogen Well
The 52 wild spots are not spread across Sakurajima the way the count suggests — they collapse into two pockets. Moonflower Tower Entrance holds 36 of them (69%) and Secluded Cemetery another 15 (29%), leaving a single stray elsewhere. Fast-travel to the tower and you are standing in the middle of two thirds of the island's Dogen; there is no reason to sweep the coast for the rest.

Most of them are around Moonflower Tower Entrance (69.2% of known spots), with smaller pockets near Secluded Cemetery.

Dogen shows up in 3 raid groups that attack your base, at level 13–26 around the Sakurajima. Worth knowing before you settle there — build your defences around what actually turns up.
Dungeons Dogen Appears In
Besides its wild habitat, Dogen turns up inside one cavern, and takes the boss chamber in one of them. Caverns are the reliable option when the overworld roll is not going your way.
