Smokie
#149Needs Smokie's Harness equipped — without that gear the skill does nothing. It unlocks at Technology level 58 for 3 points, so a Pal caught early can sit unusable for a while.
Its black fire feels no hotter than warm, yet anything left sitting in it melts from the inside out. Cheese held over the flame comes out a genuine delicacy.

How to Get Smokie
Smokie is Dark, so a Dragon attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.
Wild Smokie spawn between level 50 and 66. That top end fights the sphere much harder, so start low and leave the tougher ones until you need duplicates.
Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it dead average, which makes the back-strike bonus worth lining up before you throw.
Smokie is flagged nocturnal, but every one of its 1,620 spawn points is live on both the day and the night table, so there is no reason to wait for dark. It is skittish and bolts on sight rather than engaging, so open at range or cut off its escape before throwing a sphere.
Playing Smokie Well
Smokie's mounted ability only functions underground — used anywhere in the open world the game refuses it with a "cannot be used outside a dungeon" message. Inside a cavern it sniffs toward the objective, and the cooldown shortens by star: 3 seconds at one star, then 2.8, 2.6, 2.4 and 2 seconds at rank 5.
"Dig, Smokie! Dig!" is not a general gathering buff — the effect is bound to a single item id, Chromite. Having Smokie out multiplies the Chromite you pick up by +100% and does nothing at all for ore, wood, stone or any other resource, so it earns its party slot only on a Chromite run.
The multiplier climbs with condense rank rather than level: +100% at one star, then +110%, +130% and +160%, reaching +200% at five stars. So a one-star Smokie doubles a Chromite pickup and a fully condensed one triples it — four extra copies fed to the Pal Essence Condenser buy you a flat 50% more Chromite per node than the star you started with.
The bonus is gated behind the saddle: Smokie's Harness has to be crafted and equipped before either the Chromite multiplier or the mount ability switches on. An unsaddled Smokie in the party is dead weight. The technology sits at level 58 for 3 points, and the harness itself costs 20 Leather, 50 Fiber, 40 Paldium Fragment and 5 Dark Fragment at a Pal Gear Workbench.
Smokie has to be the summoned, active partner for the Chromite bonus to count — the buff is flagged to fire only for whichever Pal is out of its sphere, and it applies to Smokie and to you, not to the rest of the team. Swapping it out to fight with something else silently turns the multiplier off, so the Chromite run wants Smokie on the field the whole time.
Wild Smokie drop Chromite themselves, so the fastest way to bank it is to ride a saddled Smokie through the Feybreak spawns and farm its own kind — the partner bonus applies to the Chromite those kills leave behind.

Smokie Boss Rewards
Beating the boss Smokie once yields the Smokie Bounty Token. Holding it is the whole effect — it permanently raises the stats of every Pal on your team for as long as it sits in your inventory, so it is never worth selling.
The fight also unlocks Smokie's Harness, the gear that lets you ride or deploy Smokie properly.
Wild Smokie Level Range
Wild Smokie roam at level 50–66 out in the world — plan your spheres and party level around that before hunting one on the interactive map.

Dungeons Smokie Appears In
Besides its wild habitat, Smokie turns up inside one cavern, and takes the boss chamber in one of them. Caverns are the reliable option when the overworld roll is not going your way.
the boss chamber fight is level 56–58, and ordinary cavern spawns run level 50–55.
