The last one left of its kind, still holding its sacred duty close. Even if that long obligation were ever discharged, the only reply to its calls for its mother would be a single echo.

How to Get Panthalus

Panthalus is not in the wild spawn tables or any dungeon, so it cannot be found by exploring — it arrives through a fixed encounter or by breeding rather than a hunt.

Panthalus is Water, so an Electric or Grass attacker takes it down fastest — and a Pal it resists will drag the fight long enough for it to heal or flee.

Its capture rate is 1.0, which makes it dead average, which makes the back-strike bonus worth lining up before you throw.

None of the sphere advice above applies until you have made the encounter exist. Panthalus has no wild spawn point, no cavern appearance and no parent pairing that produces it — it is one of only twelve Pals in the game with none of the three — so it is assembled rather than hunted. Four Echobones sit at fixed spots in the world; carrying the Faded Schematic turns them into the Echoing Flute at a plain Workbench, one of each bone, 300 work, nothing else in the recipe. The flute is what calls it up, and the arena is the Deserted Islet, which has its own fast travel statue standing essentially on the fight itself.

Every bone is close to a fast travel statue, so the collection run is four warps rather than four expeditions. The Marine Echobone lies about 290 m south-east of Small Settlement and level with it. The Silent Echobone is about 180 m south of the Altar of the Windcaller, again on the flat. The other two are descents, not walks: the Seafoam Echobone sits about 370 m east of the Eternal Pyre Tower Entrance and roughly 400 m below it, and the Tidewind Echobone about 110 m west of the Land of Absolute Zero and about 100 m down. Warp in, drop off the edge on the right heading, and take the glide — climbing back out is the slow half of both trips.

Playing Panthalus Well

Read the encounter multipliers against the rest of the tower board before the 42× health pool scares you off. Panthalus is the only one of the ten that takes more damage than an ordinary Pal would, at ×1.2 where every other tower boss sits at ×1.0 or better, and one of only three that swings for less than its own attack stat, at ×0.83. It also has a single version with no harder tier waiting behind it, where nine of the others hold a rematch in reserve. That makes it a long fight rather than a dangerous one, and what shortens it is a heavy Electric or Grass hitter, not thicker armour.

The Deserted Islet looks like an arena but it does not function as one. Panthalus ranges out across the open water for much of the encounter rather than staying in front of you, and its wider attacks wash over almost the whole spit of land, so standing on the sand leaves nowhere to step to. Fight the whole thing mounted on a flier and take the sweeps out over the sea instead of trying to roll them ashore. Height also lines up the shot that matters: the sigil on its forehead is the spot that registers critical damage, and it is far easier to keep in your sights from above than from the beach. Two mounts do both jobs at once — Beakon and Helzephyr Lux carry you and land the Electric weakness at the same time, and Solmora Lux is the Electric answer if you would rather chase it through the water than over it.

The kit that turns this into a short fight all unlocks inside a six-level band, which is the real readiness bar on the encounter rather than any recommended number: the Rocket Launcher and its ammo both open at technology level 65, the Ancient Helm and Ancient Armor at 68, and the Ancient Shield at 71. Arrive at 71 and there is nothing further in the tree worth waiting for. That pairing is the point — long-range burst to chew through a 42× health pool from outside the AoE rings, and the top defence tier to absorb the sweeps you cannot fly clear of.

Panthalus and Astralym are the only two Pals in the Paldeck that cannot be assigned to a single base job — no suitability at any level — and Panthalus still eats 9 of 10 food units, the heaviest tier there is. A base slot on it costs feed and returns no work, so it belongs in the active party, which is where the numbers that justify the fetch quest actually land: 3,000 on land and 3,000 in water, against 2,000 for the next fastest runner in the game and 1,800 for the next fastest swimmer.
