All Journal Locations: Every Diary and Where to Find It — Palworld Database

Palworld buries 64 readable journals out in the world, and they are the only place the game bothers to explain itself — who the castaway was, why eight people ended up guarding towers, and what really happened under the World Tree. This guide lists every journal location by series, with the region it sits in, the nearest fast travel statue and the direction to walk once you land.

How Many Journals Are in Palworld

There are 64 journal pickups in total: 55 spread across the Palpagos map and 9 more inside the World Tree, which is a separate map with its own fast travel network. They split into three kinds — the 23-part Castaway's Journal that runs the length of the main island, 31 diary pages belonging to the eight tower bosses of Palpagos, one stray letter from an islander, and 9 World Tree documents including Zenara's five. The Castaway entries are the ones scattered the widest; every boss diary sits inside that boss's own region, so a tower trip and a diary sweep are the same trip.

The split is lopsided on purpose. Nineteen journals sit in the Grasslands alone, which is why most players finish the early story pages without trying, then stall for hours because the last twenty are split between Sunreach Isle (our Sunreach Skies guide covers it), Feybreak and the World Tree — three places you cannot reach until very late.

TipThe Journals layer on our Palworld interactive map drops all 55 Palpagos pins at once and lets you tick each one off as you grab it, so the list survives between sessions. Flip to the World Tree map for the final 9.

Castaway's Journal Locations

The Castaway's Journal is the actual plot of Palworld, told by the researcher who spotted a suspicious blank space on a world map, sailed out alone, and got wrecked in the fog off Palpagos. Across 23 entries he invents Pal Spheres off a ruin mural, works out saddles by copying a Pal riding another Pal, gives up on berries and eats his first chicken Pal, and slowly realises the towers are hiding something. The entries are numbered but not laid out in order, so read the fast travel column rather than trying to walk the numbers — Day 5 is up in the Snowfields while Day 8 is 8 m from the Desolate Church. Every distance below is straight-line from the statue, so add a little for cliffs and water.

Twelve of the 23 are in the Grasslands and most of those are within a two-minute glide of a statue you already own, so this series is realistically finishable before you touch the second tower. The awkward ones are Day 5 (a long detour east of Thawtide Cape), Day 32 near the PIDF Tower and Day 25 out past Dry Dunes — all three want a flying mount and heat or cold gear before you bother.

Tower Boss Diary Locations

Every tower boss on Palpagos left a diary set near their own turf, and reading them changes how those fights land. Zoe is a kid who never learned why she guards the tower, Lily's pages are a recruitment pitch for the Free Pal Alliance, Victor's are clinical experiment logs that quietly describe building Shadowbeak from scratch, and Bjorn's are an old warrior praying for one last real fight. That is 31 pages across eight authors, and each set is tight enough to clear in a single loop around its region.

Zoe Rayne's Diary

Zoe's five pages are the closest thing Palworld has to a childhood: no family, raised by the Rayne Syndicate crew and Grizzbolt, and by the last entry she is openly asking why she is guarding a tower nobody ever explained to her. Four of the five are in the Grasslands within reach of your first statues, and Diary 3 sits 33 m from the Sealed Realm of the Frozen Wings, which makes it the single easiest journal in the game to pick up by accident. Diary 4 is the outlier at 310 m south of Kelpsea Hill. Grab the set before you take on How to Beat Hard Mode Zoe and Grizzbolt — the rematch reads completely differently afterwards.

Lily Everhart's Diary

Lily's three pages are a recruitment pitch rather than a confession: she lists the Free Pal Alliance's five rules, ending with never hesitating to sacrifice yourself for a Pal. The fourth pickup in this set is not hers at all — it is a letter from a child, misspelled throughout, thanking someone for patching up their injuries and their Pal, and it is the only note in the game written by an ordinary islander. Diary 3 sits 130 m north of the Ancient Ritual Site and the letter is 210 m northeast of the Sealed Realm of the Myriad Flames, which is also where the Castaway's Day 38 hides, so all three come off one loop. The fight itself is covered in How to Beat Hard Mode Lily and Lyleen.

Axel Travers' Diary

Axel gets exactly one page and he spends the whole thing rapping about wanting a real fight and nobody being able to beat his hype, which is about as much self-reflection as the man guarding the volcano was ever going to manage. It sits 500 m west of Ruined Fortress City, the longest single-page walk in the game, and the Castaway's Day 13 is 110 m north of that same statue — take both in one stop. If you are heading there for the rematch, How to Beat Hard Mode Axel and Orserk has the team for it.

Marcus Dryden's Diary

Marcus founded the PIDF and his diary reads like a burned-out cop's notebook: nobody he arrests can pay the fine, the place is a dump, and by the third page he is talking to Faleris about which of them is waiting for the other to drop dead. All three are in the Desert around Duneshelter and the PIDF Tower, and Diary 3 is the awkward one at 430 m west of Deep Sand Dunes. Diary 2 is 250 m east of the tower entrance, so it folds straight into a run at How to Beat Hard Mode Marcus and Faleris.

Victor Ashford's Diary

Victor's pages are not a diary, they are lab reports. The first logs failure after failure at combining four-legged and winged Pals, with bodies that fall apart within seconds; the third records a single success — one specimen with both quadruped features and wings, moved to a cultivation apparatus and growing normally, and never replicable. That is Shadowbeak, and the game never states it outright. Diary 2 is the worst pickup in the Snowfields at 560 m north of the PAL Genetic Research Unit Tower, so bring cold gear and a flier, then read How to Beat Hard Mode Victor and Shadowbeak.

Saya Kurosaki's Diary

Saya's five pages are the strangest set on the map — a moon over Sakurajima that never waned, a castaway who once used the words Crescent Moon, and a final entry in which she asks to be destroyed so that death can release them from their shackles. Two of the five sit on the Moonflower Tower's doorstep at 74 m and 130 m, so you clear nearly half the set walking into the fight, and the other three are spread across the island. Pair it with How to Beat Hard Mode Saya and Selyne.

Bjorn Seligsson's Diary

Bjorn has spent a lifetime chasing strength for a day that may never come, and his last page has him wondering whether to repair his old ship and go looking for warriors beyond the island instead of dying on it. All five are on Feybreak, so this set is strictly endgame no matter how early you find out about it. Diary 5 is the convenient one at 130 m southwest of the Feybreak Tower entrance; Diary 3 is the haul at 460 m north of Wildlands Floodgate. How to Beat Hard Mode Bjorn and Bastigor covers what waits at the top.

Auri's Diary

Auri writes the longest set and the most self-aware one: she only starts a diary because a human child told her it was the custom, and by the sixth entry she is calmly waiting for someone to climb all the way up and end what she calls an endless waking nightmare. All six are on Sunreach Isle, so none of them are reachable without a flying mount — our Sunreach Skies guide covers what else is up there. Diary 6 is the furthest at 420 m northwest of The Azure Tapestry, Diary 2 the easiest at 190 m northwest of the Enchanted Firmament, and How to Beat Hard Mode Auri and Shaolong handles the fight.

World Tree Journal Locations

The last 9 journals are on the World Tree map and they are the payoff for the whole collection. Zenara's five pages are a research log: a limbless white creature crash-lands at the base of the tree, she is assigned to study it, and by the fifth entry Astralym is straining to hold back its own energy absorption while she chases a cure. Around them sit four recovered documents — a council meeting that dismisses the falling leaves as public hysteria, a comms log of a suppression squad discovering that a Key Sphere will not seal what they are shooting at, an ancient recorder about people who chose to merge with the tree, and a scorched page that ties the whole thing back to Auri.

Three of them cluster near Within the Seal and the Abandoned Laboratory, so the endgame area alone covers a third of this list. Zenara's Diary 5 is the long one at 560 m north of Within the Seal, and Zenara's Diary 1 and 2 both sit over 400 m out from their nearest statue — bring a flier and clear them in one lap rather than three trips.

Fastest Way to Collect Every Journal

Sweeping journals is a fast travel problem, not a combat problem. The order that wastes the least time:

  • Clear the Grasslands block first — 19 of the 64 sit there, and Day 2, Day 3, Day 8, Day 10 and Zoe's Diary 3 are all inside 65 m of a statue.
  • Fold each boss diary set into the trip you already make to that tower, since every set sits in its own region.
  • Save Sakurajima, Feybreak and Sunreach Isle for when you have a flying mount — Auri's six pages are spread over a sky island and walking them is not an option.
  • Do the World Tree last as one lap: 9 journals, three of them over 400 m from the nearest statue.
  • Tick each pin off on our journal map layer as you go, so you never re-fly a region to find out which one you missed.

Are Journals Worth Collecting?

Journals are lore pickups, not upgrades — they do not feed the tech tree or hand you a stat the way Lifmunk Effigies and stat lotuses do, and grabbing one just files it away so you can re-read it from the menu later. What you get instead is the only in-game explanation of why Palpagos exists, why the towers were built, and what the tower bosses actually want, which reads very differently once you have already killed all of them. If you want pickups that pay you back in stats, Pal Effigies and their upgrade tracks and All Charms in Palworld are the better use of the same flight path.
