Can You Cook Pals? Meat Drops, Dishes, and Kitchens
No, you cannot cook a Pal whole in Palworld. Only 25 of the 288 Pals leave meat behind — here is every cut, what each one cooks into, the buffs, and where to cook it.

You cannot throw a Pal on a fire and eat it — there is no cook prompt on a Pal in Palworld, alive or knocked out, and no kitchen in the game takes a whole Pal as an ingredient. What you cook is the meat it leaves behind, and this guide covers all 17 cuts, which of the 288 Pals actually drop one, what each cut turns into, and every station that can cook it.
Can You Cook a Pal in Palworld?
Short answer: no, and the game is fairly blunt about it. A Pal is never an ingredient. Defeat one, catch one, or put one under the Meat Cleaver and it pays out its drop table instead, and for a small minority of Pals that table contains a cut of meat. Everything else in Palworld's cooking system runs on those cuts plus crops, eggs and milk. The number that surprises most players is how small that minority is: 25 of the game's 288 Pals drop meat at all, which means the other 263 are worth exactly nothing to a kitchen no matter how you kill them.

How to Turn a Pal Into Food
There are four routes to a cut of meat and they are not equivalent. Killing is free but you have to find the Pal; catching pays the same drop and keeps the Pal; butchering lets you farm a cut on demand from your own base; buying skips the hunt entirely if you have gold spare. Most runs end up using all four at different points, and the one players skip for far too long is the second one.
Beat It or Catch It
Every meat drop in the game sits at 100%, so a kill is never a wasted trip — the only variable is how many cuts fall, and that ranges from 1 on Chikipi to 2 on Mammorest and up to 3 on Mozzarina. The part worth knowing is that a successful capture pays the drop too. Throwing a sphere at a Chikipi fills your Paldeck entry, gives you a Pal you can stick on a ranch, and still hands over the poultry, so there is almost never a reason to kill a low-level food Pal outright. Save the killing for the big Pals you already own copies of.
Butcher It With the Meat Cleaver
The cleaver is the answer to "I need eight Mammorest Meat and I do not want to fly across the map eight times". Equip it and the Pet command on any Pal in your party becomes Butcher, which rolls that Pal's entire drop table on the spot. It unlocks at technology level 12 for 2 points and costs pocket change to build, so it is available long before the meats you actually care about are. The catch is permanence — a butchered Pal is deleted, not knocked out, so never swing it at something carrying good passives. Breed cheap fodder copies and butcher those instead, and see the full ranking in our best Pals to butcher guide.
| What | Detail |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Technology level 12, 2 technology points |
| Craft cost | 5 Ingot, 20 Wood, 5 Stone |
| How it works | Equip the cleaver — the Pet command becomes Butcher |
| Payout | The Pal's whole drop table, meat included, rolled once |
| Cost | The Pal is gone permanently — no revive, no Palbox entry |
| Bulk version |
Buy the Meat Instead
All 17 cuts are stocked by the wandering Caravan Shop, from 100 Gold for Chikipi Poultry up to 1,000 Gold for Mammorest Meat. Village and dungeon merchants carry a smaller village stock — Chikipi Poultry, Lamball Mutton, Rushoar Pork, Raw Dumud and Raw Kelpsea — which is enough to keep an early
Campfire busy without hunting anything. Expeditions are the passive option: four different hard, 60-minute runs bring back 3-7 Mammorest Meat a trip, and one of them pays out every single time.
Every Pal You Can Eat
Here is the whole edible roster, sorted by how much a single raw cut restores. The gap between the top and the bottom is enormous — Mammorest Meat and Broncherry Meat restore 180 apiece, five times a Chikipi, and both Pals drop 2 per kill. Spawn pins are how many places that Pal appears across the map, so the practical picks are the ones with both a decent cut and a crowded map: Dumud at 744 pins and Caprity at 786 are the easiest steady supply in the early game, while Reindrix is the rarest common food Pal on the list at 128 pins. Click a pin count to open that Pal's layer on the interactive map.
| Raw cut | Nutrition | Per kill | Dropped by | Spawn pins | Caravan price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 180 | 2 | Broncherry | 984 | 500 | |
| 180 | 2 | Mammorest | 968 | 1,000 | |
| 80 | 1-2 | Skutlass | 274 | 600 | |
| 64 | 2 | Reindrix | 128 | 350 | |
| 57 | 2 | Caprity | 786 | 170 | |
| 57 | 2-3 | Mozzarina | 222 | 190 | |
| 50 | 2 | Eikthyrdeer | 454 | 180 | |
| 50 | 2 | Dumud | 744 | 220 | |
| 43 | 1-2 | Rushoar | 296 | 150 | |
| 42 | 1 | Munchill | 458 | 250 | |
| 40 | 1-2 | Gloopie | 1,018 | 200 | |
| 37 | 1 | Jellroy | 1,206 | 250 | |
| 37 | 1 | Lamball | 702 | 120 | |
| 36 | 1 | Chikipi | 548 | 100 | |
| 36 | 1 | Galeclaw | 858 | 200 | |
| 36 | 1 | Kelpsea | 2,742 | 140 | |
| 35 | 1 | Jelliette | 990 | 250 |
Eight more Pals are element variants of the ones above and drop the exact same cut in the exact same amount, which quietly doubles the map coverage for several meats. Kelpsea Ignis is the big one — 1,580 pins on top of Kelpsea's 2,742 makes Raw Kelpsea the single most abundant meat in Palworld. At the other end, Broncherry Aqua has just 14 spawn points, so treat any Broncherry Meat from that variant as a bonus rather than a farm.
Raw or Cooked: What Grilling Actually Adds
You can eat raw Pal meat straight out of your bag, and nothing bad happens — it just wastes most of the cut. Fourteen meats have a plain one-ingredient roast, and for eleven of them the trade is a flat 1.4x nutrition plus a point of sanity for a few seconds at a fire. The two exceptions are the interesting ones. Munchill Steak doubles the nutrition and drops the carry weight from 5.0 to 1.0, so a stack of them weighs a fifth of what the raw meat did. And Roast Reindrix is the outlier of the whole system: 64 nutrition raw becomes 252 cooked, a 3.9x return that ties it with the Mammorest and Broncherry roasts despite starting from a much cheaper cut. If you only build one grilling habit, make it that one.
| Raw cut | Raw | Cooked into | Cooked | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 64 | 252 | 3.9x | ||
| 42 | 85 | 2.0x | ||
| 180 | 252 | 1.4x | ||
| 180 | 252 | 1.4x | ||
| 57 | 80 | 1.4x | ||
| 57 | 80 | 1.4x | ||
| 50 | 70 | 1.4x | ||
| 50 | 70 | 1.4x | ||
| 43 | 60 | 1.4x | ||
| 37 | 52 | 1.4x | ||
| 36 | 50 | 1.4x | ||
| 36 | 50 | 1.4x | ||
| 36 | 50 | 1.4x | ||
| 80 | 90 | 1.1x + buff |
Three cuts have no plain roast at all. Gloopie Tentacle, Jelliette Bell Flesh and Jellroy Bell Flesh only ever go into multi-ingredient recipes, which is fine, because those recipes are where the EXP buffs live.
Where to Cook Pal Meat
Four kitchens handle every meat recipe in the game, and only one jump really matters. The
Campfire at level 2 is a single-ingredient grill and nothing more — it will roast a Chikipi and refuse everything else. The
Cooking Pot at level 17 is where actual cooking starts, and it is the station most players stay on for the rest of the run. The
Electric Kitchen at level 41 cooks the same recipes far faster once you have power, and the
Large-Scale Stone Oven at level 49 is not just a speed upgrade — a handful of the strongest dishes, including the best attack and defense foods in the game, will not appear on any earlier station. All of them run on Kindling, so the real bottleneck is which kindling Pal you have stationed there, not the kitchen itself.
| Station | Unlock level | Materials | What it handles |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 10 Wood | Single-ingredient roasts only | |
| 17 | 5 Wooden Board, 15 Ingot, 3 Flame Organ | Multi-ingredient dishes and cakes | |
| 41 | 30 Refined Ingot, 5 Circuit Board, 20 Charcoal, 5 Flame Organ | Same recipes, much faster, needs power | |
| 49 | 200 Cement, 200 Charcoal, 25 High Quality Wooden Board, 13 Cryogenic Coolant | Adds the top-tier buff dishes; several Pals can cook at once | |
| 70 | 80 Soralite Ingot, 30 Thermal Core, 50 Cryogenic Coolant, 10 Ancient Civilization Core | Endgame kitchen — takes every recipe in the game |
The Dishes Worth Cooking
Thirty-eight recipes take Pal meat, and 24 of them are proper dishes with a timed buff attached rather than a plain roast. This is the part of cooking that repays the hunting. Mammorest Curry is the strongest attack food in Palworld at +25%, and it is also the highest-nutrition non-cake dish at 418 — one Mammorest kill is two bowls. Galeclaw Nikujaga matches it on the defense side at +25%, off a common flyer instead of a giant. Both need the Large-Scale Stone Oven, so the practical mid-game pair is Broncherry Fried Noodles and Eikthyrdeer Stew, which land at +20% each and cook in a
Cooking Pot. The sleeper category is work speed: Dumud Chowder and Mozzarina Hamburger both give +50%, and because base Pals eat out of the Feed Box, stocking either one speeds up your whole camp.
Pal Meat in Cakes and Breeding
One recipe connects cooking to breeding, and it is the only cake in the game with meat in it. Special Cake takes 2 Mammorest Meat on top of 20 Flour, 15 Milk, 15 Egg and 8 Caramel Cotton Candy, and dropping it in a Breeding Farm chest instead of a plain Cake makes the resulting egg more likely to inherit multiple passive skills from its parents. It is also the highest-nutrition food in Palworld at 738, which is a genuinely bad reason to eat one — those 738 points cost you a Mammorest kill and 15 eggs. Cook it for the eggs, not for lunch.
| Cake | Nutrition | SAN | Pal meat | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 738 | 92 | 2 Mammorest Meat | Better passive inheritance on the egg | |
| 656 | 82 | None | Standard breeding cake | |
| 696 | 87 | None | Breeding cake, crop-based recipe | |
| 676 | 84 | None | Breeding cake, mushroom recipe |
Pals You Should Not Eat
Nine of the 25 food Pals produce something on a Ranch forever, which makes cooking them a one-time payout in exchange for an infinite one. Mozzarina is the clearest example — its meat is a decent 57, but the Milk it drops on a ranch is an ingredient in cakes, Gratin and half the pot recipes, and you will burn through far more milk than steak. Chikipi is the same story with Egg, and it is the one Pal you should never butcher early because eggs gate every cake in the game. Catch two of each for the ranch first, then let everything after that go in the pot.
| Pal | Ranch output | Meat it drops | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
Chikipi | Egg | Chikipi Poultry (36) | Ranch it — eggs gate every cake |
Mozzarina | Milk | Mozzarina Meat (57) | Ranch it — milk is in more recipes than the steak |
Caprity | Red Berries | Caprity Meat (57) | Ranch a pair, eat the rest |
Lamball | Wool | Lamball Mutton (37) | Ranch a pair — wool runs your beds and cloth |
Dumud | High Quality Pal Oil | Raw Dumud (50) | Ranch it — oil is scarcer than the meat |
Kelpsea | Aquatic Pal Fluids | Raw Kelpsea (36) | Ranch a pair, then farm the 2,742 spawns |
Kelpsea Ignis | Flame Organ | Raw Kelpsea (36) | Ranch it — flame organs build your kitchens |
Dumud Gild | High Quality Pal Oil | Raw Dumud (50) | Ranch it, same as Dumud |
Caprity Noct | Venom Gland | Caprity Meat (57) | Ranch it — venom glands are annoying to farm |
Summary
No, you cannot cook a Pal. You cook the meat 25 of them leave behind, and the loop is simple once you know it: catch or beat the Pal (the drop is 100% either way and a capture pays it too), roast the cut at a
Campfire for a quick 1.4x, or take it to a
Cooking Pot at level 17 for a dish with a real buff on it. Prioritise Mammorest and Broncherry for raw nutrition, Reindrix for the best cooked conversion in the game, and leave Chikipi and Mozzarina on a ranch where they pay out forever.
