Best Pal Builds: Top Passives, Skills, and Loadouts — Palworld Database

A Pal build is four passive slots, three active skills and a partner skill that scales as you condense it, and the gap between a Pal you caught and a Pal you built is well over double the damage. This guide covers the passive stacks worth chasing, the skills worth overwriting, the passives you can simply buy, and finished loadouts for eleven of the strongest combat Pals in 1.0.

What a Pal Build Is Made Of

Four layers decide how hard a Pal hits, and only two of them are permanent choices. Passives are the one stage that can force you to start over — they lock in at hatch, so everything else you pour in is wasted if you fix them later. Active skills and stars can be changed on a finished Pal at any time, which is why they belong at the end of the pipeline rather than the start.

LayerHow manyWhat it changesWhere you set it
Passive slots4Percentage multipliers on attack, defense, move speed, work speed and element damageHatching, breeding, or an implant
Active skills3 equippedThe moves the Pal actually casts in a fightLevel-ups and skill fruits
Partner skill1, fixed per speciesA bonus that scales up as the Pal gains starsPal Essence Condenser
Stars and soul rank4 stars, 20 soul ranksFlat stat multipliers on top of everything aboveCondenser and Statue of Power

The full spend order — Potential fruits, condensing, and the 52 souls it takes to finish one Pal — lives in the min-max guide. This page is about the two layers that decide what a Pal actually does in a fight: which four passives it carries and which three skills it casts.

Best Passives for a Combat Build

Attack passives stack additively, so four slots is a budget you spend, not a set of independent choices. The two rank-5 World Tree passives are the biggest numbers in the game and both carry real drawbacks; everything below them is safer. Note that the game's stat line calls it Shot Attack, but it drives melee and ranged damage alike, so a melee bruiser wants the same passives a caster does.

PassiveEffectRankWhy bring it
Twin-Edged Holy BladeAttack +50%, Defense -30%5The single biggest damage passive — worth it only on a Pal that fights at range and never eats a hit
God of DestructionAttack +40%, Defense +20%, Max HP -50%5Nets positive defense, but halving HP on a 105 HP body means one AoE kills it
Demon GodAttack +30%, Defense +5%4The only big attack passive with no downside at all — take it on every attacker
MuscleheadAttack +30%, Work Speed -50%2Matches Demon God for damage, and the work penalty costs nothing on a combat-only Pal
LegendAttack +20%, Defense +20%, Move Speed +20%4Can't be rolled — it only exists on the legendaries, where it is already innate
FerociousAttack +20%3Clean filler for the fourth slot when nothing bigger shows up
SerenitySkill cooldown -30%, Attack +10%3Cooldown is the real damage lever on 30-second nukes, and this is the only passive that touches it
ImmortalityAttack +15%, Life Steal +5%, HP Regen +100%4Mutation-only, and the best passive on a Pal you leave fighting solo
Diamond BodyDefense +30%4The biggest defense boost with no attack penalty attached
Sanctified Meat ShieldDefense +50%, Attack -30%5Pure wall — only for a Pal whose job is holding aggro off you
VampiricLife Steal +5%4Sustain for long raid fights where nothing is healing the Pal

The theoretical ceiling is Twin-Edged Holy Blade, God of Destruction, Demon God and Musclehead for +150% attack, and that Pal fights with half its HP and a defense line that nets out slightly negative. The stack most people should actually aim for is Twin-Edged Holy Blade, Demon God, Musclehead and an element boost: +110% attack and +30% element damage for -25% defense. Swap Twin-Edged Holy Blade for Ferocious if the rank-5 roll never comes and you lose 30 percentage points and nothing else. Serenity is the sleeper — 30% off every cooldown is worth more than a flat 20% attack on a Pal built around 30-second skills.

Best Element Boost Passive by Element

Element boosts multiply damage of one type instead of raw attack, so they only pay out if the Pal's skills match. Four of them cover two elements at once, which makes them strictly better on a dual-element Pal — Invader is the standout, because Dark and Dragon are the two elements the top of the combat tier list is built from. The rank-3 "Emperor" and "Lord" passives all give the same flat 30% and are far easier to breed for than the rank-4 duals.

NeutralSavior+30%GrassCelestial Emperor (+30%)
WaterLord of the Sea+30%Lunker (+20% Water and Ice, +20% Defense)
GroundEarth Emperor+30%Power of Gaia (+10%)

Ground is the weak spot on this list — Earth Emperor is the only 30% Ground boost in the game and the next option down is a 10% rank-1 passive, so a Ground build usually leans on raw attack passives instead. Water is nearly as thin: Lunker gives 20% across Water and Ice plus 20% defense, which makes it the better pick on a bulky Water Pal even though the headline number is lower. The full list of all 312 passives with every effect is on the passive skill list.

Pals That Start With Slots Already Filled

Some Pals hatch with passives baked in, and that changes the whole build — a Pal carrying Legend and an element boost innately only has two slots left to roll, which makes a perfect build vastly cheaper to breed for. The six legendaries are the obvious case, but several non-legendary bodies carry a rank-4 dual boost for free too.

Orserk130 rangedLord of Lightning3

Necromus and Frostallion Noct are the best deals on the board: Legend plus a 30% Dark boost means you only need to land Demon God and one more attack passive to finish them, against four clean rolls on a blank body. Xenolord is the quiet one — Invader covers both Dark and Dragon, so it is already carrying the best element passive in the game before you touch it. Note that Blazamut Ryu and Jormuntide post their 150 as melee attack, so they only compare against other melee bruisers and want close-range skills. Which passives can move between species by breeding is covered in the exclusive passives guide.

The Four Build Templates

Nearly every Pal in the game falls into one of four builds, and the difference between them is which stat the four slots are spent on. Pick the template from the job, not the Pal — a 200-attack body running a worker stack is a waste, and a 100-attack body running a glass-cannon stack still hits like a 100-attack body.

Glass Cannon Build

This is the boss-killer stack, and it wants a Pal that opens from across the arena. Twin-Edged Holy Blade's -30% defense barely matters on something with a 5,000-range skill, but it is a death sentence on a melee bruiser that stands in the boss's swing. Bellanoir Libero is the cleanest home for it — 150 ranged attack, Siren of the Void already innate for +30% Dark, and a Dark move list that every one of its skills feeds. Pair it with a fourth slot of Demon God and Musclehead and you are running +110% attack on top of the element boost.

Bruiser Build

Bruisers trade about half their damage for a body that survives a raid boss, and they are the right call when you fight beside your Pal rather than behind it. Panthalus is the extreme version: 180 HP and 200 defense, the joint-highest defense in the game alongside Astralym. Diamond Body's +30% is the biggest clean defense passive available, and stacking it with Legend takes the Pal to +55% defense while still adding 50% attack. If you want a pure wall instead, swap Demon God for Sanctified Meat Shield and accept the -30% attack.

Mount and Sprint Build

A travel mount does not need damage passives at all, and the four move-speed passives stack cleanly to +120%. Jetragon is the obvious base — it is the fastest mount in the game at 3,300 sprint speed, ahead of Panthalus at 3,000 and Shaolong at 2,800 — and Legend is already innate, so you only need three rolls. Dimensional Leap is the big one at +50%, with the caveat that it drains hunger 15% faster, so carry food. The full speed ranking for every rideable Pal is on the mount speed list.

Base Worker Build

Work speed passives stack the same way attack passives do, and the three big ones plus Lucky come to +235% — a Pal that finishes a crafting queue in under a third of the time. Demon's Hand is the rank-5 pick at +90%, and its only cost is 15% faster sanity drain, which a hot spring at base cancels out. Bastigor is the best dual-purpose body for it: Cooling Lv8 and a 130 attack line means it works the base and still fights. The worker rankings show who tops each of the twelve work suitabilities.

Best Skills to Slot

A Pal keeps whatever moves it leveled into, and most of those are filler it learned at level 1. Skill fruits overwrite a slot outright, so there is no reason to leave a 40-power move equipped on a finished Pal. The table below is the best teachable skill per element measured by power per second of cooldown — the number that decides sustained damage — with the Arena Shop price where the fruit is sold rather than looted.

GroundGround Skill Fruit: Sand Twister50024s20.85,00030 Battle Tickets
WaterWater Skill Fruit: Aqua Surge50024s20.85,00045 Battle Tickets

Holy Burst is the flexible buy and the best teachable skill in the game on both measures — 700 power, the top sustained figure, 5,000 range, and Neutral damage that nothing in the game resists. Absolute Frost matches its raw numbers but only reaches 3,000 range. If you want the biggest single hit rather than the best average, the 600-power thirty-second options are Dragon Meteor, Thunderstorm, Fire Ball, Dark Whisp, Diamond Rain, and the two melee ones, Rocky Impact and Geyser Gush. Match the element to the Pal wherever you can — a Dragon Pal running a Dragon skill gets paid twice by its element boost passive. Every teachable move with full stats is on the active skill list.

TipDon't fill all three slots with thirty-second nukes. One or two long-cooldown hitters plus a short-cooldown filler keeps damage flowing through a boss fight — a 50-power move on a 2-second cooldown is 25 power per second, higher than any 700-power skill in the game, and it never leaves your Pal standing around watching a timer.

Ready-Made Builds for the Top Combat Pals

These are finished loadouts for the eleven highest combat statlines in 1.0, with the innate passives already accounted for so the passives column only lists what you still need to add. Ranged and melee attack are different stats, so the 150 melee bodies compare against each other rather than against the ranged casters above them.

Astralym Build

Astralym is 200 attack, 200 HP and 200 defense with no element and no weakness, and it does not need a skill fruit at all. Paldium Rain, learned at level 3, is 500 power on a five-second cooldown — 100 power per second, more than four times what the best teachable skill in the game manages. Its Paldium moves carry no element, which means element boost passives do nothing for them, so spend the fourth slot on Ferocious or another flat attack passive rather than a 30% boost that never fires. That gives it +130% attack with Twin-Edged Holy Blade, Demon God, Musclehead and Ferocious.

Bellanoir Libero Build

150 ranged attack is the joint-highest ranged figure outside Astralym, and Siren of the Void arrives innate for +30% Dark and +30% Ice damage. Every skill on its list is Dark, so that innate boost is live on every cast — fill the other three slots with pure attack passives instead of doubling up on element. Flame Waltz at 450 power on a 20-second cooldown is its best sustained move at 22.5 power per second, with Nightmare Bloom's 600 power as the opener. Its partner skill is Nightmare Stare, and with 120 HP it wants to be nowhere near the boss.

Frostallion Noct Build

The best value build on this page: Legend and Lord of the Underworld are both innate, so two rolls finish it. 140 ranged attack with 140 HP and 135 defense is the most balanced legendary line in the game, and it rides. The real reason to condense it is Black Steed — the partner skill scales from +10% ranged attack at zero stars to +40% at four, which is the biggest jump on any partner skill here. Slot Dark Wing and Crystal Wing for the 700-power hits and keep Dark Ball as the two-second filler at 25 power per second. Alphas spawn at level 65.

Jetragon Build

Jetragon is the fastest mount in the game at 3,300 sprint speed and its Legend plus Divine Dragon innate pair means the build is half-done on capture. Run it two ways: Demon God and Musclehead for a 140-attack Dragon caster, or Dimensional Leap and Swift for a pure travel mount that hits +100% move speed with Legend included. Beam Comet at level 30 and Meteorain at level 60 both land 700 power, and Spirit Fire covers the gap between them at 20 power per second. Its saddle, Jetragon's Missile Launcher, is Technology level 79, so this is a late build. Alphas spawn at level 70.

Panthalus Build

Panthalus is the tank pick — 180 HP and 200 defense, the joint-best defense line in the game — and it doubles as the second-fastest mount at 3,000 sprint with no saddle to unlock. 120 ranged attack is modest for this tier, so the build leans into what it does have: Diamond Body on top of the base 200 pushes it well past anything else, and Lord of the Sea keeps its Water skills relevant. Grand Breach and Holy Burst both hit 700 power, and it drops a Giant Pal Soul itself, which matters when the back half of the soul ladder needs 30 of them.

Jormuntide Ignis Build

The best melee bruiser you can realistically farm — 150 melee attack and 130 HP, with 21 wild spawn spots on the interactive map, against legendaries that spawn as single alphas. Being Dragon and Fire means Eternal Flame and Divine Dragon both pay out, giving it +30% on either damage type depending on which skill fires. Its partner skill, Stormbringer Lava Dragon, scales bonus damage against burning targets from +50% to +65% across condense ranks, so lead with a Fire skill and follow with the rest. Kindling Lv7 also makes it a genuine base worker between fights.

Buying Passives Instead of Breeding Them

Implants install a passive directly onto a Pal, which skips the breed-and-reroll loop entirely, and this is the part of Pal building most people never touch. Fourteen implants are sold outright in the shops; the rank-4 and rank-5 ones only come out of the Ancient Relic Recycler, at odds that scale with the relic grade you feed it. The percentages below are the rate from Glistening Ancient Relics, the best grade.

Musclehead at 15 Successful Bounty Tokens is the single best deal in Pal building — the same +30% attack as Demon God, on any Pal, for the price of a few bounty clears, and the work-speed penalty is free on something that never touches a workbench. Serenity is the other one worth buying on sight, because nothing else in the game cuts cooldowns. Note the implants are named differently from the passives they install: Double-Edged Holy Sword installs Twin-Edged Holy Blade, Sacred Flesh installs Sanctified Meat Shield, and Demonic Grasp installs Demon's Hand. The mutation passives sit at a much friendlier 3.89%, and they also come from mutated eggs if you'd rather breed than recycle.

What You Need Unlocked First

None of this is gated behind the endgame except the implants. You can be rolling passives before level 20 and running skill fruits as soon as the Arena opens, which means a properly built mid-game Pal outperforms a level-50 one somebody caught and forgot about.

UnlockTechnology levelPointsWhat it gives you

Breeding Farm192Rolling and inheriting the four passive slots
Ability Glasses344Reading the hidden 0-100 Potential rolls before you invest
Ancient Relic Recycler743The rank-4 and rank-5 disposable implants

The Arena has no technology cost at all — it just needs you to reach it — and it is where every skill fruit and half the implants are priced. Clearing up to Legend rank pays 200 Battle Tickets on the first clear and 15 to 25 per repeat, which makes a 45-ticket skill fruit about two runs. Passives come first regardless: they are the only stage that requires a fresh hatch, and a fresh hatch throws away every fruit, star and soul you already spent.

TipCheck a Pal's innate passives before you plan the build. Necromus, Frostallion Noct, Jetragon, Neptilius and Paladius all arrive with Legend plus a 30% element boost already occupying two slots, so breeding them for a four-passive roll is wasted effort — you only ever need two.
