Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic Location — Palworld Database

Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor unlocks at Technology Lv 41 and is the piece that carries most players through the Snowfields and the freezing desert nights — 180 defence, 500 HP, and a cold-resistance package that stops the weather eating your health bar. This guide covers the full stat card, the one Alpha boss that drops the Legendary schematic at a flat 3%, the two supply-drop regions that stock the line, and exactly what 40 Refined Ingots and 4 Cryogenic Coolant trace back to in raw materials.

Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor Stats

The headline is 180 defence — 30 more than the plain Refined Metal Armor it sits above, for the same 500 HP and double the durability. The durability jump is the part people skip past: 1,500 to 3,000 means you repair half as often, and in the Snowfields the repair trip is what actually costs you an evening. Its resistance package is Cold 2, Heat 1 and an Ice damage reduction, which is the exact same combination every cold-resistant body armor from Tech Lv 27 through Tech Lv 54 carries — the tier you pick moves the numbers, not the temperature protection.

Armor defence only means something against other armor, so read 180 against the rest of the body slot rather than against a weapon's attack number. In its own class it lands where the tech tree says it should: well above Cold Resistant Metal Armor at 105, well below Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor at 250. The Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor is its mirror — identical 180/500/3,000 stat line, Heat 2 instead of Cold 2, and it unlocks one level earlier at Tech 40. You only need both if you're bouncing between the volcano and the snowfields in the same session.

Where the Legendary Schematic Drops

Here's the reason this schematic is worth a page of its own: the Legendary is the only tier in the line with a boss source. Schematics 1 through 3 come out of supply drops and the wide background loot pool and nothing else. Schematic 4 comes out of that same pool *and* off Alpha Menasting at a flat 3% — a fixed, repeatable kill that beats the 0.05% supply-drop rate by a factor of 60.

Schematic 1Uncommon6.33%Desert · Mount Obsidian
Schematic 2Rare1.27%Desert · Mount Obsidian
Schematic 3Epic0.25%Desert · Mount Obsidian
Schematic 4Legendary3.0%0.05%Desert · Mount Obsidian

The supply-drop column collapses by roughly a fifth per tier — 6.33% down to 0.05% works out to about one Legendary every 2,000 drops, which isn't a plan, it's an accident that occasionally happens. Every schematic in the game shows the same rolled-scroll model in your bag, so the four icons above are each tier's own art and the rarity border is the only way to tell them apart at a glance. That's also why the pictures on this page are of the armor itself wherever possible.

Alpha Menasting — the 3% Boss Drop

This is the farm, full stop. Alpha Menasting is a level 44 Dark/Ground field boss, and it is the only Pal in the game whose loot table contains a Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4. One detail matters a lot here: it has to be the plain Menasting. The Menasting Terra Alpha at level 55 looks like the bigger, better version and drops no schematic at all — it pays Ancient Civilization Parts and Precious Claws and nothing else.

No health buff and no damage buff — just the flat 76% damage cut sitting on top of an already high 130 base defence, which is the highest defence stat of any Alpha in this level band. Menasting can't burst you down, but it can absolutely outlast you if your damage isn't elemental, and a level 44 fight that drags is a fight you lose to ammo. The consolation is that the loot pays out even when the 3% doesn't:

This is the neat part nobody mentions: Legendary body armor recipes are gated on Ancient Civilization Parts, and Menasting hands you 5-7 of them every single kill. The Legendary version of the plain Refined Metal Armor needs exactly 6. So the boss that gates the schematic also funds the craft — grind it long enough to see the 3% and you'll be sitting on far more parts than the armor can consume. The Precious Claws are pure profit at 7,500 Gold apiece. And while you're there, catch one: Menasting is a Mining Lv 5 worker, which is a straight upgrade for the ore line you're about to lean on.

What Menasting Throws At You at Level 44

Menasting learns nine moves across its life, but only seven of them are online at level 44 — and the two it's missing are the scary ones. Dark Laser at 450 power doesn't arrive until level 50, and the 600-power Dark Whisp not until level 70. That caps the Alpha's hardest hit at 400, which is why this fight is a much gentler introduction to Alpha farming than its 76% damage cut suggests.

MoveElementPowerCooldownRangeWhat to do
Rock LanceGround40020s100-5000Its ceiling at this level, and it reaches almost anywhere — move on the wind-up
Jumping StingerGround35016s0-3000Its only melee move — the one attack that closes distance on you
Nightmare BallDark30016s1000-5000Long-range only; getting inside 1,000 switches it off
Stone CannonGround1208s500-2500Mid-range filler — sidestep, don't backpedal
Shadow BurstDark804s0-300Point-blank only; the price of hugging it
Bog BlastGround402s500-5000Chip damage; ignore it and keep firing
Poison BlastDark302s500-5000Chip damage with a status attached

The range bands are the exploitable bit. Nightmare Ball needs 1,000 units of distance, so closing the gap deletes a 300-power attack from the rotation — and unlike most bosses, closing in doesn't hand you a bigger punish, because Shadow Burst inside 300 units is only 80 power. The mid-close band is genuinely the safest place to stand. Burn your damage right after a Rock Lance lands, since that's a 20-second window where nothing above 350 can come out. One more thing: five of its seven moves are Ground and two are Dark, so leave Electric Pals (punished by Ground) and Neutral Pals (punished by Dark) at home no matter how good their attack stat looks.

The Team to Bring

Dark/Ground means two elements hit it hard — Dragon beats its Dark half, Grass beats its Ground half — and with a 76% damage cut in play that multiplier isn't a bonus, it's the entire fight. Dragon is the stronger of the two on raw attack stats, Grass is the tougher. Neither element takes bonus damage from anything Menasting has, so pick on availability: Jormuntide Ignis if you can find one, Braloha if you can't.

PalElementsMelee / RangedHPWhy bring it
Jormuntide IgnisDragon/Fire150 / 130130S-tier and the hardest-hitting Dragon you can catch wild — 21 spots
ShaolongDragon/Water100 / 135140S-tier, 63 wild spots, and a 2,800 sprint mount for the round trip
JormuntideDragon/Water150 / 120130Same attack as Ignis, but Alpha-only at level 55 — the return trip, not the first one
DandilordGrass/Dark100 / 135125Top Grass ranged attack; no wild spawns, so you'll be breeding for it
SilvanceGrass100 / 120140Tankiest Grass attacker — also no wild spawns
LyleenGrass100 / 120120The strongest Grass Pal you can actually find wild — 42 spots
BralohaGrass/Ground100 / 95130247 wild spots — by far the easiest Grass attacker to get hold of

If you're farming a 3% drop, travel time matters more than fight time, which is why Shaolong earns a row it wouldn't earn on damage alone — it's one of the fastest mounts in the game and it turns a long round trip into a short one. Dandilord and Silvance are the two best Grass options on paper and the two you can't simply go catch, so treat them as breeding projects rather than today's answer. Braloha is the honest recommendation for a first attempt: 247 spawn points, respectable bulk, and the Grass damage is what's actually doing the work. Full stats and spawn points are on each Pal's page, the Palworld tier list ranks the rest of the roster, and mount speeds compares every ride.

Desert and Mount Obsidian Supply Drops

Supply drops are the only source with a published number on every tier, and this line appears in exactly two of the eight regional tables. Not the two you'd guess. Both regions run identical odds, so it makes no difference which one you camp — and the desert genuinely does get cold enough at night to justify the gear it stocks.

Schematic 1Uncommon6.33%6.33%
Schematic 2Rare1.27%1.27%
Schematic 3Epic0.25%0.25%
Schematic 4Legendary0.05%0.05%

Chase the top row, not the bottom one. At 6.33% the Schematic 1 is one of the most common things in either pool, which makes supply drops the feeder for the Drafting Table rather than a Legendary source in their own right. Bank the Uncommons and Rares while you're passing through, let Menasting's 3% handle the Legendary, and never sit waiting on a 0.05%. Every region's full loot pool is on the Palworld supply drops page.

Why the Snowfields Don't Stock It

This trips people up constantly, so it's worth stating plainly: you cannot farm this schematic in the Snowfields. Each armor tier has one supply-drop home, and the map assigns them by progression rather than by climate — Pelt armor lives in the Grasslands, Metal in the Forest, Refined in the Desert and Mount Obsidian, Pal Metal in the Snowfields and Sakurajima, Hexolite on the Dark Island. Camping snow drops for cold gear gets you the *next* tier up instead, at better odds than the Refined line ever offers.

Cold Resistant Pal Metal Schematic 2Rare2.0%2.0%
Cold Resistant Pal Metal Schematic 3Epic0.4%0.4%

Every rate in that table beats its Refined-tier equivalent — 10.02% against 6.33%, and 0.08% against 0.05% at the top end. If you're already Tech 50 and standing in the snow, Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor at 250 defence is the better thing to be collecting, and the Refined line becomes a stepping stone you can safely skip. Below Tech 50, the Desert run is the only supply-drop answer.

Build It Instead: The Drafting Table Route

The Drafting Table unlocks at Technology Lv 45 for 4 Technology Points and merges five identical schematics into one of the next rarity up. This line supports the full ladder with no missing rungs, which isn't true of everything in the game. The catch is timing: the armor unlocks at Lv 41 and the table at Lv 45, so there are four levels where you can hoard schematics and combine none of them.

TargetCombine costEquivalent in Schematic 1s
Schematic 2Schematic 15
Schematic 3Schematic 225
Schematic 4 (Legendary)Schematic 3125

125 Schematic 1s is the paper worst case, and at a 6.33% supply-drop rate that's somewhere around 2,000 supply drops for one Legendary. Nobody should pay that when a 3% boss roll exists four tech levels earlier. Combine at the top of the ladder only — bank Schematic 3s until you're holding five — and resist spending Uncommons the moment you can, because those are the rolls you'll want back when a lucky Epic lands and you're one short. The table costs 20 Refined Ingot, 10 High Quality Wooden Board and 30 Charcoal to build; the schematic upgrade guide has the full rules.

TipCraft the Common version the day you hit Tech 41 and stop waiting on a rarity roll. Every tier of this armor gives the identical Cold 2 resistance — rarity moves defence and HP, never the temperature protection — so a Common Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor you're wearing in the snow tonight beats a Legendary schematic you haven't rolled. Kill Alpha Menasting whenever you're near the pin; even on a zero-luck run it pays 5-7 Ancient Civilization Parts and 5-7 Precious Claw, and the parts are exactly what the Legendary recipe eats.

How to Craft Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor

Whichever schematic tier you're holding, the base recipe is four materials on the Production Assembly Line for 70,000 work. Nothing in it is endgame — no ancient parts, no Sakurajima ore, no Soralite. The only line that needs thinking about is the coolant, which is a crafted item rather than something you pick up.

MaterialQtyMade at / from
Refined Ingot40Improved Furnace (Tech Lv 34) — 2 Ore + 2 Coal each
Leather20Pal drops — Mammorest pays 5-10 at 100%
High Quality Cloth2Tech Lv 36 — 10 Wool + 1 Leather each
Cryogenic Coolant4Tech Lv 31 — 1 Aquatic Pal Fluids + 1 Ice Organ each

Trace all four lines down to things you pick off the ground or off a corpse and one suit works out to 210 raw units. The Coal half of the ingot cost is the only line worth planning around — 80 Coal is a real dent at Tech 41, and coal nodes are about half as common as ore nodes. Everything else a functioning base already produces while you're out hunting.

Raw materialTotal for one suitWhere to get it
Ore801,632 nodes
Coal80824 nodes
Leather22Mammorest or Mammorest Cryst, 5-10 per kill at 100%

Ice Organ4Ice Pals at 100% — see below
Aquatic Pal Fluids4Water Pals at 100% — see below

For comparison, the plain Refined Metal Armor one tech node below costs 30 ingots, 15 leather and 1 cloth for 50,000 work. The cold version is roughly a third more expensive across the board plus the coolant, and it buys you +30 defence and double the durability on top of the cold resistance. It also comes out 4 raw units cheaper than the heat version, which spends 12 Flame Organs where this one spends 8 units of organ and fluid — the catch being that the coolant needs its own Tech Lv 31 unlock and a crafting step, so the heat suit is the faster one to throw together from scratch.

Fastest Cryogenic Coolant Farm

Four coolant is one short hunting trip, not a project. You need 4 Ice Organ and 4 Aquatic Pal Fluids, both of which drop at 100% off their respective element, so it's purely a question of how many per kill and how easy the Pal is to find. Two kills on the right targets covers the whole suit — and the same Ice Organ line feeds the Tundra Outfit and Cold Resistant Pelt Armor if you're kitting out a whole base.

Jormuntide Ignisbrings the Dragon damage, not the materials

Pierdon Cryst and Suzaku Aqua are the efficient picks per kill; Foxcicle and Azurobe are the ones you'll actually trip over, with 187 and 199 spawn points each. Because the coolant is crafted on the Production Assembly Line for 10,000 work apiece, batch it — make twenty at once and you've covered this suit, the Pal Metal upgrade later, and the 5 coolant the Improved Furnace itself needs. The full drop table for every material is on the Palworld items database.

Can You Even Build It Yet?

Technology Lv 41 is the headline gate, but five supporting nodes sit underneath it and each has its own level and its own station. Work down this checklist before you go schematic hunting — a Legendary schematic in your bag does nothing at all until the bench, the ingots and the coolant exist to use it.

RequirementUnlocks atWhy you need it
Production Assembly LineTech Lv 29, 3 pointsThe bench the armor is built on — 100 Ingot + 20 Nail + 10 Cement + 5 Wooden Board to build

Cold Resistant Refined Metal ArmorTech Lv 41, 4 pointsThe recipe itself
Drafting TableTech Lv 45, 4 pointsCombining schematics upward — four levels after the armor

There's a small dependency loop hiding in that table: the Improved Furnace needs 5 Cryogenic Coolant to build, so the Tech 31 coolant node isn't optional even if you never craft the armor. Every point here is an ordinary Technology Point rather than the Ancient kind you pry out of tower bosses, and 22 points across the whole checklist is cheap for what it opens up. The sequencing note that actually bites is the last row: you'll be collecting schematics for four levels before you can combine any of them, which is one more argument for going straight at Menasting's 3%. The full tree is on the Palworld technology page.

How It Compares to Every Other Cold Armor

Eight body armors carry cold resistance and they form a clean ladder from Tech Lv 9 to Tech Lv 77. Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor sits fourth, and it sits at the top of the longest gap in that ladder — Tech 27 to Tech 41 is fourteen levels with nothing in between, which is exactly why so many players are still wearing 105-defence Metal Armor deep into their thirties.

Read the last column before the first one. Everything from the Tundra Outfit at Tech 9 to Plasteel at Tech 54 gives identical Cold 2 protection — only Hexolite and Ancient Armor reach Cold 3. Climbing this ladder never makes you more cold-resistant, it only makes you harder to kill while you're cold. If your only problem is the weather, the Tundra Outfit at Tech 9 solves it for 4 weight and always will. If your problem is the things living in the snow, that's when 180 defence starts to matter. Every armor piece in the game is compared on the armor database.

What a Legendary Version Actually Gains

Rarity raises the crafted armor's numbers, and the plain Refined Metal Armor line is the one Refined-tier armor whose five rarity steps are laid out end to end in the game. It climbs 150 → 195 → 210 → 225 → 240 defence, which is exactly ×1.3, ×1.4, ×1.5 and ×1.6 of base — and the same four multipliers hold on every other armor family, from Cloth to Pal Metal. Each step also stacks an accuracy bonus the base version doesn't have, adds Ancient Civilization Parts to the recipe, and pushes durability up by another 1,000.

RarityPlain Refined Metal ArmorHPExtra recipe costCold version (estimated)

Rare2107004 Ancient Civilization Parts~252
Epic2257505 Ancient Civilization Parts~270
Legendary2408006 Ancient Civilization Parts~288

Pocketpair has never published the per-rarity multipliers, so treat the right-hand column as the plain line's own curve applied to 180 — a close estimate rather than a measured number. 180 is the only figure in that column that's certain. What isn't in doubt is the shape: a Legendary lands roughly 60% above the Common, the HP bonus climbs to 800, and the recipe roughly doubles in ingots and leather on top of the Ancient Civilization Parts.

That estimate is what makes this schematic worth farming rather than shrugging at. At an estimated ~288 defence, a Legendary Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor at Tech Lv 41 would out-armor a Common Cold Resistant Pal Metal Armor at Tech Lv 50 — nine full tech levels of progression, skipped. It would also beat the Legendary plain Refined Metal Armor at 240 while keeping the cold resistance. That's the pitch: not a marginal upgrade, but a genuine tier-skip off a boss you can already beat.

Other Armor Schematics With a Boss Source

Only five armor schematics in the entire game drop off a Pal, and all five are the Legendary tier at a flat 3%. Every other armor Legendary in Palworld has to come out of chests, supply drops or the Drafting Table. If you're building a farming route, this is the complete list — and Menasting is the middle name on it, which makes it the natural first serious one to attempt.

Heat Resistant Refined Metal Armor Schematic 4Astegon55Dragon/Dark×0.243%
Lightweight Hexolite Armor Schematic 4Paladius60Neutral×0.183%

Chillet at level 11 is the gentle one — it only halves incoming damage rather than cutting three quarters — and Paladius at 60 is the wall, carrying a ×1.86 HP multiplier on top of the harshest damage cut on the list. Menasting sits in the sweet spot: standard Alpha multipliers, no bonus health, and a move list that hasn't yet learned its two biggest attacks. Clear it, then take the same team pattern to Astegon eleven levels later for the heat-resistant mirror. Every Alpha Pal and its multipliers is listed on the Alpha database.

The Short Answer

Kill Alpha Menasting, the level 44 Dark/Ground field boss: it is the only Pal in the game that drops the Legendary Cold Resistant Refined Metal Armor schematic, it drops it at a flat 3%, and it respawns. Make sure it's the plain Menasting — the level 55 Menasting Terra Alpha drops no schematic. Bring Dragon or Grass; there's no HP or damage buff to fight through, only a 76% damage cut, so elemental damage is the whole answer. Back it up with Desert and Mount Obsidian supply drops (6.33% for Schematic 1, 0.05% for the Legendary) and skip the Snowfields entirely, because snow drops stock the Pal Metal tier instead. Build the Common version the moment you hit Tech Lv 41 — 80 Ore, 80 Coal, 22 Leather, 20 Wool, 4 Ice Organ and 4 Aquatic Pal Fluids — and treat the Drafting Table at Lv 45 as the fallback, never the plan.
